Chapter 4

Arielle's pov

After what felt like hours, I heard voices outside.

“I need a breeder, Valerie.”

The voice was deep and smooth like water against a sharp sword. Even without seeing this man’s face, I knew he was dangerous.

“You don't have to do this, Señor Lorenzo.” I heard Valerie whisper.

Lorenzo spoke in a sotto  that sounded annoyed and calm at the same time. “You know that when the bloodshed drives him crazy, I’ll need one of the new girls.”

New girls?

Oh no. I'm the only new girl around here.

“I need a girl that can carry my child. Someone who will never leave this place.”

I cupped my hand over my mouth. Was that girl supposed to be me?

Valerie replied quietly. “Alright, sir.”

The next thing I know, the door slammed open and Valerie stormed in.

She grabbed my arm and hoisted me to my feet.

“Stop, you're hurting me.” I cried out.

“Shut up!” She hissed. Then she pinched the skin between her brows. “Your first client has changed.”

“Changed? H - how? To whom?”

The doors opened again and this time, he stepped inside.

Lorenzo.

The scent of lavender and pinewood rolled into the room and I held my breath.

I had expected an old, cruel man with yellow teeth and white hair and not this vision of a Greek God wrapped in a black suit.

It wasn't just his looks. It was him. He had this intoxicating scent that dominated me.

For the first time in forever, I felt my wolf stir within me.

MATE!

The word rang in my head like a deafening roar and I rose to my feet as if on autopilot.

Lorenzo stared at me with wide silver eyes. His raven back hair fell below his shoulder in soft waves. His jawline was sharp enough to cut glass.

No ordinary person looked like this. No one in Hell's Pit was supposed to look like this.

The smell of lavender was overwhelming now that I couldn't help myself. “M … mate…”

Lorenzo’s silver eyes widened in shock. His lips parted as though he wanted to say something but no words came out.

“Mate.” As soon as those sinful words left my lips, Lorenzo turned on his heels and stormed out of the room.

The sound of the door slamming shut behind him echoed in my chest and I flinched.

What just happened?

Did I do something wrong?

Why did he leave like that?

My wolf was howling in confusion and hurt.

Immediately, the door burst open and Valerie strolled in.

“What the hell did you do!” She yelled.

“I.. I didn't do anything!” I defended myself. “He just looked at me and left. I - -”

“You stupid bitch!” Her hand came down on my face and the sting hurt like hell. “You ruined everything! Do you have any idea who he is? Huh?”

I clutched my cheek but I didn't cry. I swore to never give her the satisfaction of that.

Valerie scoffed. “You think because you used to be a spoiled little brat that you can defile me? You have no idea who you're dealing with.”

“I didn't do anything. I swear.” I fisted both my hands.

“I have no words for you,” Valerie exhaled sharply and signalled to Dante and his colleague. “Take her away.”

“Woah. Take me where? I didn't do anything wrong!” I protested as the guards held both my arms.

“Take her to the other quarters.” Valerie gave the order and stormed out of the room.

“No, no, no! Wait! Miss Valerie, please!” My screams echoed in the hallway as the guards grabbed both my arms.

My feet barely touched the ground as they dragged me down the narrow hallway.

My fate had been sealed.

I was going to die.

I shut my eyelids and prepared for my end.

“We're here.” Dante announced.

I threw my eyes open expecting to see a dark dungeon. Instead, I was standing in a totally different arched doorway.

Was I in the right place?

This doesn't look like Hell's Pit. The Pit I knew was known for its dark, cold and damp structure but this one was bright and warm.

Dante and his colleague let go of me. “Go in.”

I exchanged looks between the door and the guards. “But what is behind that door?”

“That's for you to know.” They pushed me inside.

My mouth fell open in shock as I stared at the room. It wasn't like anything I had ever seen in here before.

Golden lights illuminated the room from a crystal chandelier in the ceiling. The walls were made of soft red draperies. Fire crackled in the fireplace casting warm shadows around the room especially on the four postal beds draped in velvet.

It was too much to take in. “This…can't be right. They took me to the wrong place.”

“Welcome, Miss Arielle,” A soft voice broke the silence.

I turned to see a young maid standing by the doorway with her hands clasped behind her back.

“Hey. Why am I here? What is this place?” I asked.

The maid bowed her head. “I'm not obligated to say, Miss Arielle but the Alpha is not done with you.”

I was confused. “He?”

The maid lifted her eyes to meet mine. They were red and menacing yet calm. “You know who he is.”

“Lorenzo?” My heart raced in my chest.

“Yes, Miss Arielle,” She looked at the clock and bowed her head. “Let me go and prepare your lunch. I'll be right back.”

As the maid slipped out of the room,  I sank onto the edge of the luxurious bed, clutching my trembling hands on my lap.

Why did Lorenzo storm off?

If he was my mate then why did he look at me like I was some kind of curse?

What did the maid mean by Lorenzo is not done with me?

What was Lorenzo hiding?
