CHAPTER SEVEN

VENGEANCE IN HIGH HEELS 7

Good day sir and madam, pls this way, an usher ushered us to a free table.

Wesley took out the seat for me once again before returning to his opposite me, I blushed hard as I sat, he was such a gentleman indeed.

I looked around admiring the environment, then it seeped in.

The blue light in this area was quite warmer than the other which were just plain white light.

This section had more red also, and then my eyes caught sight of the title in front.

This section was for couples, the usher had mistaken us to be couples.

I slam my hand on my head I remember that I had my hands around Wesley’s arm.

“Is anything the matter? Are you uncomfortable with this place?”, Wesley asked me.

“Oh no!, I’m fine”, I assured him as I balanced on my seat.

“Pardon my manners, I apologize once again for our previous encounters, I am Wesley McLean and I work with Lenu Jewelers,” he said bringing his hands forward for a shake.

I accept his gesture, answering him as I shake back, “I’m Anna”.

He knows where I work already, he only disclosed his name and place of work, I do not know his age, address, or even what he works as in the Lenu Jewelers company.

Oh girl, you need to chill, I advise myself inaudibly.

The waiter stopped at our table, “good day sir, good day ma’am” he greeted.

I had just finished eating before I joined Wesley, so I had to just accept wine.

“Well… Miss Anna, it’s quite late so I’ll go straight to the reason we are here” Wesley announced immediately he sensed that I had adjusted and was comfortable with the environment.

He began, “It’s business”, he paused, examining me, “You see Anna”, he continued”, “We first met at an auction right?” He questioned.

I nodded, affirming, my brows furrowed as I wondered where his question was leading.

“I went for that auction to get something…, something precious, something that means a lot to me, something that my group relies on, but as we may have it, there had been an undercover transaction using the company you work for” Wesley explained.

But I was still lost, I couldn’t understand what he was talking about so clung to my glass and let him finish.

“Ethan got the device I needed at the auction, my group taught it unwise to spend such an amount on the device, but in a later case, after much evaluation and survey, we have realized that we indeed need it” " he pauses, taking a sip from his glass.

“Ethan still has it, or so I believe, now… this is where you come in.

I know who you are, no matter what, Ethan trusts you, you have permission to his office and even a key to it… yes, I know that” he smiled as he said this last part.

But I wasn’t buying it, “what do you mean, is this why you called me here? you just wasted my time, how shameful of you, you want me to betray the people I work with, to betray My boss, do you know the implications?” I fired at him trying my possible best to keep my voice and remain calm.

The image of a gentleman I had painted in my head of him disappeared immediately.

Why would he ask me to do this?

“Why don’t you just hire an agent, assassin, someone, anyone?, why do you want to put me in trouble, if this is the reason then I shouldn’t even be sitting with you right now, I do not want to be mistaken to work with you”. I replied, gulping down my wine in one go as I tried to calm my nerves.

He doesn’t reply and I’m welcomed with a chilly pause.

His gaze is cold and mercilessly contrasting deeply with the guy who drew out the chair for me to sit.

“How much?”, Wesley’s voice came cutting through the silence.

My mouth fell open.

“I do not want Ethan to even know that it’s missing, I just want a swift movement, it will be exchanged, not stolen, that’s all you need to do, it’s my document after all, it got lost and Ethan had it, so… Name your price.

“I can’t do this, I can’t betray everyone, once Ethan finds out something happened to the device, I’ll be among the suspects

“Right now it feels as if I know you more than you know yourself, I have done a mini survey about you though, and you are the best man… woman for this job”, he laughed at his joke.

“Are you serious right now?… protecting Ethan, do you even know who he is or what he does, you take him to be a good businessman right?…” he said as he laughed at me.

I felt intimidated, “what is it now? what’s the meaning of all this, how is Ethan my business?” I asked.

“Your lover… or ex-lover” Wesley smirked.

My heart sank as I swallowed hard.

I had tried to couple myself together all these days but now here came a strange charming guy, reminding me of my relationship with Ethan.

“You think that same guy has clean hands and a good heart? with all that he has done… to you at least, why still protect him?” Wesley asked, concern laced in his voice as he leaned in closer on the table, his brows furrowed as he tried to understand me.

A tear slid down my cheek slowly, “No matter what, he once made me happy, he was my only friend, I do not want him to suffer, I do not want him to fall still, I want him to be happy and successful” my voice choked as I said.

“Oh no!, don’t cry Mi lady”, Wesley takes out a kerchief from his pocket and wipes my face.

“Just look at this beautiful Angel trying to ruin her makeup”, he teased with a smile.

I wiped my eyes and giggled, he was funny after all, maybe he could make me smile longer than I thought.

I promised myself I wasn’t going to cry over Ethan any longer, at least I should stop failing myself.

“Smile for me Mi lady” Wesley cheered with a broad smile and arms opened as I laughed slightly.

“Ok Anna, that should be enough, I shouldn’t keep you out late, let me drop you off” Wesley offered as he stood striding over to me to help me up once again.

I was happy I had received this princess treatment at least for a night, I wished it never stopped.

I closed my eyes and let the cool atmosphere and warm environment deep in once again.

I wanted to remember this night over again, I wish I could come here again.

I smiled as I willingly took his arm this time as we walked out.

I wonder which other surprises the night held for me.
