CHAPTER 10: Real Reasons
Logan
The moment I felt my wolf whimpering in despair and longing for his mate, I knew she had already stepped out of the Pack's border. And the only option that was left to me, was to accept what had happened and focus on what would matter.
Convincing myself that I did the right thing is what I have been doing, since what I have done didn't bring me as enough satisfaction as I was expecting.
I acted as if I didn't give a damn and ignored my wolf. Thinking all of its sorrow would eventually pass overnight, I decided to just isolate myself inside my room and instead shift my attention to something that I believe I should put first—my pack.
However, on the way to my room, I was about to turn the knob on when a voice appeared behind me.
"Does it feel or make any difference kicking Kylie out of the Pack?" Lucas' tone was as if he was putting the blame on me, causing me to completely lose my patience.
I looked back at him and found him blankly staring at me with his arms against his chest.
Stepping up towards him, I grabbed him by his collar. "Why do you care so much about her?
She's my mate and if there is someone who should be mad about it, it should be me!"
"Did you forget that you are the one who made her leave?" he bitterly laughed "And as far as I know, you are a man of your word, brother. So, stick with what you've started."
My jaw was tightly clenched at his words, and as if my wolf even lost its remaining cool, my balled-up fist reached Lucas' face in an instant.
I hit him once, which was enough to put a bruise on the corner of his lips. Lucas remained standing with his left hand holding my wrist as he groaned in pain, wiping hints of blood with his right hand.
"You think doing that was easy, huh?" I asked, pushing him harder to the wall behind him.
"I think I warned you enough about the possible outcome, and yet you still didn't listen."
"Well, if it weren't for Hanna, none of this could have happened," I countered, directly looking at his expression. I knew he would definitely react.
"You shouldn't blame Hanna because this was all your fault!"
I snickered, "Of course, you wouldn't want to blame your mate who doesn't even care about you—"
This time, his fist didn't even let me finish, as it landed on my left cheek. It was so hard that I involuntarily let go of his collar and my feet took a step back.
I could feel anger filling Lucas with the thick growls he was letting out. His wolf probably couldn't take it after I slapped him the truth about his mate.
He lifted his arm to throw me another punch, but I managed to catch his forearm. Lucas didn't stop there and raised his other hand this time to hit me, but he failed for the second time.
I was gripping both his wrists before I forcefully pushed him away. But as if fighting me is what he really wants, he crouched down to shapeshift when Helena appeared from the opening of the grand staircase, just behind Lucas.
"Oh, God. You two have the time for this?"
Lucas quickly gathered himself up, removing the few buttons of his polo.
"Instead of fighting, you should just start getting the money and the help you need from our Pack so this stupid arranged marriage can end soon."
Yeah, this stupid arranged marriage that took away my mate.
It didn't take me long enough when my own thoughts began to torture me and my wolf as usual. I turned my back on both of them and shut the door.
If Kylie hadn't caused a disruption between her and Hanna, I wouldn't have to do any of these. Hanna didn't like Kylie at first. What more, when she started telling everyone we were mates.
"Helena and I will back out of the wedding, and we will not help your Pack in any possible way if you don't kill that woman claiming she's your mate."
I was left with no other choice. I don't want to kill her, that's why the least I could do was to negotiate with Hanna.
"I don't have enough reason to kill her."
"Then, there's no wedding that would take place. Just watch your pack burn into ashes."
Seeing her walk away is like watching our pack sink.
"But I can kick her out of the Pack instead," I finally announced.
Hanna slowly turned back with a wicked smile on her lips.
But I knew Kylie so well, she wouldn't just leave me if I told her so. She's so hard-headed, and she will always fight for what she thinks is right.
I had to give her a reason to leave. That's why I announced the truth that she was adopted and hurt her feelings in every possible way I could because I would rather do that than kill her on my own.
She may be away from me, but at least I knew she would be alive.
My goal now is to save our Pack as soon as I can and get my mate back. After all, she was one of the reasons I needed to do this. How can I give her the good life she deserves if I cannot even give my people a good life?
The next morning, I was determined to stay inside my office to continue working when Victor entered. "Mila, Ky… Kylie's mother was downstairs—" he hesitated, voicing out Kylie's name.
"Just call Lucas, and he will talk to her," I mutter, with my eyes still on my screen.
He left, but after a couple of minutes, he was back.
"Mila won't leave unless she has talked to you, Alpha."
Realizing that not showing up to talk to her would only cause me more time, I left my office and went downstairs where Lucas was already present.
As soon as Mila's eyes found me walking downstairs, she left her seat and knelt down on the floor.
"You don't need to do that. Kylie was not here anymore. She's not part of the Pack anymore and that's our decision. I'm sorry." I began, not giving her a glance.
I am not proud of what I did, more of the consequences of it. Absurd it may sound, however, there is no ounce of regret in my chest. I did what I had to do.
"But I'm sure Kylie would survive as a rogue given that she's strong and smart," Lucas added as he squatted down and helped Mila up.
"I am not scared that Kylie would stumble upon tons of rogues, but instead of her real family. What if, while Kylie was alone and away, she found her real family? Especially now that she was aware that she was adopted."
"I understand that you miss her and were just worried about Kylie, but at this time, I think it's better if she actually finds her real family. In that way, she will have someone on her side."
"You don't understand, Alpha Lucas." She continuously shook her head as tears began to flow down her cheeks.
She intertwines her hands as if she's truly scared of Kylie's life out there.
"Who is her real family?"
I could see that she hesitated to spill anything at first, but she made a sigh before wiping her tears.
"Years ago, Alpha had Kylie when she was a baby, almost a newborn. Her fate was to die because she was said to be the only daughter of our Pack's biggest enemy. But since I wouldn't be able to carry a child of our own, George asked Alpha to raise her instead of killing an innocent child."
"Our biggest enemy?" Lucas repeated, his brows heavily furrowed as if he was deeply thinking about who it could be.
But there is only one enemy I can think of. I didn't even just classify them as enemies, but rather as rivals.
The Lycan Pack, led by our father's rival, the Lycan King Larry.
"Kylie was the Lycan King's daughter," Mila said, confirming my thoughts correctly. "And she shouldn't find out about that, Alpha."
