CHAPTER 6: Rogue Attack

Kylie

My wobbly knees gave up and the tears I was holding back the whole time fell down like a waterfall. My heart sank deeper into the abyss watching Logan take steps away from me, knowing so well that this would be the last time I was going to get a glimpse of him.

The bitterness of our goodbye lingered on until the next thing I knew, I was dragged inside a black van before it drove away to the Packhouse.

Reaching the end of our Pack's border, one of the men opened the door. I didn't wait for them to push me out, and I got out by myself.

The second I walked out of the van, I thought they would immediately fly away to abandon me in the middle of the dark nowhere. But one of them pulled out a black duffle bag, handing it over to me.

"Alpha Lucas asked us to give you this."

As soon as I accepted it, the van quickly moved away. Being left in the dark alone, the cold breeze blew, and yet all I could do was shed a tear in resentment.

I opened the bag from Lucas, I couldn't thank him anymore for seeing a couple of clothes, a cell phone, and money inside. However, given the situation I am in right now, I couldn't even force a fake smile.

Still seated in the dark alone, I leaned on the huge tree, hugging my knees, when fear crept inside me upon smelling a rotten scent a mile away from my place.

I immediately wandered my eyes around as my heart pounded in anxiousness until my sight caught a glimpse of something red yet dark in the woods not far away from me.

My suspicion was confirmed when it blinked, causing me to gulp.

Rogue.

I remained still with my eyes fixed on the huge gray wolf in front of me. I didn't want to wait for it to kill me, but looking at my options, I knew I wouldn't be able to run away from this hungry rogue before it would crush me.

My throat went dry when it started to growl, stepping closer to me.

I kept my moves small and quiet as I knelt on one knee, my palms touching the ground as I clutched the handle of the duffle bag.

And when its growls grew louder with its fangs showing, I lunged towards it, shapeshifting midway. I wrapped my lamb, squeezing its head.

Squeaking in agony, the huge gray wolf falls onto the ground. I was all ready to kill it with my sharp claws when an excruciating pain filled me.

I lost my balance and fell sideways, just beside the gray wolf. However, upon seeing another wolf that just hit me with its claw, I hastily got back up, not minding my aching back.

Though bleeding, I was determined to fight another rogue when two other wolves showed up behind him. Heavily gulping, I immediately dashed away. I continued to run, but the other wolf was way faster than me.

Everything happened so quickly and within a blink of an eye, I was on the ground with another throbbing pain that occurred as the wolf's fangs made their way onto my neck.

In an instant, I shapeshifted back to my human form, bleeding profusely.

The rogue continued to slash my skin with its claws and fighting back wouldn't make any sense.

My vision began to blur with my own blood, but before my eyes were completely shut, the wolf on top of me flew away as if somebody just pushed it.

I think I was saved.

The next morning, I was more than surprised to find myself alive, lying in such an extravagant white and brown room.

I pulled the white blanket wrapped around me and forced myself to sit down when my stomach suddenly ached, causing me to groan. Lifting my shirt, I saw the wound I got last night was still not yet fully healed.

Someone must have saved me last night.

Just as that thought crossed my mind, the door creaked open and a tall man in a black suit entered. He pulled a chair and sat in front of me.

"Just as I thought. You're awake!"

I kept my eyes fixed on him as he cheered in glee, smiling so wide that the dimple on his left cheek appeared.

"It was me who saved you last night," he added, winking as he pulled out something in one of the pockets of his suit before placing it on the table beside the bed I was on.

It was a piece of paper. I grabbed it and saw his name on it.

Jacob Williams.

"Wait, I'm in a hotel that you own?" I asked upon reading through it.

Not hearing any response, I looked back up at him only to find his eyes filled with wonder fixed on me. He leaned in with his index finger on his chin as his eyes examined me. "So, who are you? I never see you around."

"Well, then, I'm new," I smirked, leaning away from him.

"Are you a rogue or belong somewhere and got expelled?"

My brows twitched with so many questions he was asking, but before I could respond, he added, "Because you should be aware that you're in my Pack's property."

"If you're worrying that I can't afford your hotel, then, rest assured I can pay," I immediately answered, ignoring his question.

His eyes widened before he laughed out loud. "That won't apply to you, lady. You're not human."

Leaving his seat, my eyes followed him until he reached the window and parted the curtains away, allowing sunlight to loom inside the room.

"Look, I'm thankful that you saved me last night," I paused, fidgeting. "I'm really thankful—"

"Really?" He turned around with his forehead heavily creasing.

I quickly nodded in response.

"So how about joining my Pack?" he blurted without any hint of hesitation.

His sudden invitation was odd. It feels and sounds like he saved me, thinking I'll get to join his pack afterward. But I'm a lone she-wolf now. Joining a new pack won't be that bad.

"No," that word suddenly came out of my mouth.

He slowly nodded. "Okay, it's not like I'm going to force you or anything. But don't forget that the Packhouse's address was written on the back."

Quickly striding away, the last thing I heard was the door shutting.

I was left dumbfounded, perhaps I didn't expect him to react in such a way. I was expecting him to somehow convince me. Hence, I grabbed the calling card he left and slid it into my pocket.

I stayed the entire time inside the hotel room. I thought of buying some food as my rumbling stomach began to disturb my sleep. However, my wounds weren't fully healed yet.

When the dark began to approach, that's only when my wounds finally healed. I packed myself and walked out of the building to buy food at the grocery nearby.

The fear of having rogues around me was still one of my worries, but after successfully shopping for my needs, I exited the grocery store safely.

Nonetheless, after walking a few meters away from the store, I felt a presence following me. I tried to ignore it, hoping I was just overthinking. I quickened my pace only for them to finally lose patience with me.

"Why are you alone in the middle of the night?"

I turned around to face him and was quickly taken aback to find out he was not alone.

There were three of them.

"Stop following me or else I'll call the police," I bluntly answered.

All of them laugh.

"You're not trying to fool us into believing you're human, are you?"
