CHAPTER 3 Break Up

Ellie's POV

The door to the car opened and a man whose face I could barely see came down from the car in a hurry and rushed toward me to check if I was alright.

My hands were trembling and my heart beating hard against my chest as I sat on the floor in shock of narrowly being hit by a car.

"Are you okay?" he asked leaning closer to me. He knelt before me, examining my body with his eyes, while checking if I got hurt or bruised by the fall.

I looked at him puzzled without saying a word as I was still in shock at what had happened. For a moment I saw life flash right before my very eyes.

He held my hands and helped me from the floor back on my feet. "We should head to the hospital at once," he said offering to take me to the hospital.

"No, I am fine, there would be no need for that," I responded quickly taking my bag from him.

"I can't let you off just like that without taking you to the hospital and making sure you are alright," he replied wearing a look of worry all over his face.

At that moment, all I felt was pain and anguish, not only was I betrayed by the person I loved and trusted most in the world, but I also cheated nature by narrowly escaping death. I felt like the whole universe was against me at that point.

"I appreciate the gesture, but I am fine," I said sniffing while trying to keep my tears from dropping.

"I am glad you are okay, I would not have forgiven myself if the situation had been any different," He said with a sigh of relief.

"So where are you headed? I should give you a ride back home. It's late at night and I can't leave you here all by yourself, not after what just happened," He added.

"There is no need for that mister, you don't have to take me home. Thank you for stopping to make sure I am okay and as you can see I am not hurt. I will call a taxi," I replied.

"It will put me at ease to know that you got home safely, so I insist on taking you home if you don't mind," he said without giving up.

"Without being rude, I have had a very long day, and I am grateful for your offer to take me home but I would prefer to take the taxi if you don't mind," I replied calmly.

"No offense taken, I will call you a taxi if that will be the case," He slid his hand into his pocket and brought out his phone before proceeding to order a ride.

We waited for five minutes and my ride finally came, he walked me to the car opened the door for me to get inside, and closed the door afterward.

He slid his fingers into his chest pocket and brought out a card. "Here is my business card, you can reach out to me anytime," he said giving the card to me.

"I don't think that would be necessary," I replied quickly.

"Please I insist," he said politely. I took the card from him reluctantly and shoved it into my bag before I proceeded to open the door.

"Have a good night," he said with a soft smile on the side of his lips.

I didn't go home; I went to Aria's place instead.

On getting to the door, I rang the doorbell simultaneously while waiting for Aria to get the door. After a few seconds, I heard footsteps approaching the door, and in no time, the door swung open.

Aria immediately pulled me in for a hug on seeing me while I sobbed softly. She pulled me out of the hug, shut the door behind us, and held my hands as we both headed inside.

We sat down on the couch in the living room and I placed my head on her shoulder while she cuddled my hair gently.

"It's okay baby, let it all out," she said as I cried my heart and my eyes out. She patted my back and stroked me, giving me comfort and pep talks while I continued to cry.

I stood up and went to the kitchen, while I sat on the couch, trying to stop the tears from coming. I breathed in and out while wiping the tears from my face with my hands.

Aria got back from the kitchen, holding a glass of water and toilet paper in her hands. She handed the glass of water to me before taking a seat beside me.

"You are going to be fine Ellie," Aria said dabbing my face with the toilet paper.

"Thank you, Aria," I said in a teary voice placing the glass on the side stools beside the couch.

"So tell me, what happened Ellie, a Few hours ago, you were happy over the phone when you went to dinner with the girls," Aria said looking worried.

"I was so sad I couldn't be there because I had to work late and if I am right, you were so excited when you left for James's house when we spoke. Talk to me, what is going on?" Aria added.

"James and I broke up," I said bursting out in tears, the mere thought of it broke my heart all over again.

"James is getting married to someone else, Aria, he got engaged to someone else on the same day that I thought he would be asking me to spend forever with him. How callous can he be?" I said cursing him out as I continued to cry.

Aria's mouth dropped open as her eyes widened in shock and disbelief at what I had just said. She sat clueless for a while before she could bring herself to say anything to me.

"Tell me this is all a lie, Ellie, you are joking right?" Aria asked.

"No Aria, James left me, he lied to me, and he betrayed me," I said while leaning into her arms.

"Oh My God, Ellie, I am so sorry you have to go through this. I want you to know that you have done nothing wrong in loving him the way you did," Aria replied.

"You are one of the strongest people I know and your heart is so beautiful that you deserve nothing but the absolute best. I know it hurts but I want you to know that he is a loser for letting a diamond as beautiful as you slip off his fingers," Aria added as she continued to comfort me.
