CHAPTER 5 Ex

Ellie's POV

I was still a bit hazy but I knew that Aria was saying something about a case. I waited for her to join me in the sitting room.

"So you'll be representing some ANS Inc. In a lawsuit," she replied as she was walking closer to me.

She eventually came and sat on the same couch as me.

"ANS Inc.?"

"Yes," she replied with a hint of excitement.

I haven't taken any jobs lately as I tried to forget what happened and move on.

I feel as if this would be a great opportunity to do so.

"What's the case about?" I inquired further with the little soberness left in me.

"Well, they are suing some firm over intellectual property infringement or something of the sort." She replied. Silence took over the room for a brief moment as we both tried to comprehend what was going on.

"Well, I don't know if you can ha..."

"I'll do it," I replied cutting her short.

She was perplexed by my sudden acceptance of the job.

"Are you sure? " She asked.

"I mean some days ago you were heavily drinking and all of a sudden you want a case, a huge one?" She added. Even if I wasn't completely sober I could tell that she just wanted the best for me.

"You do want me to scale through this break up right?" I asked and she nodded in response.

"Then there is no more perfect way of doing that than this don't you think?"

"Well... what I think is not the problem. You do know that company is owned by James' father?" She asked hoping it might make me reconsider but she didn't get it this time.

I did take some time to think about it though. However, I believe I am mature enough to not allow personal feelings to get in the way of business.

And besides I'll have to leave my shell and get back to work sometime.

"Hello..." Aria yelled and snapped her fingers in front of me.

"Are you still drunk? Cos I don't know what you are thinking right now," she asked.

"Am fine and I will take the job," I replied.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" She asked again.

"Are you giving me or not?" My response to her felt straight and it was enough to convince her that I wanted to do this.

"Suit yourself, it's your funeral anyway," she replied. Making me chuckle she chuckled to make both of us burst into laughter.

"The files are on my desk head over there and take their business card you will find some information there," Aria said.

"Yes ma'am," I replied.

"Don't flatter yourself, Ellie, just make sure you head to the office later okay?"

I nodded in response.

"I'll see you there then," she added before taking her leave.

I went over to the table to get the files indeed it was a big case and I was going against my ex-boyfriend's father's company.

This ought to be interesting. I went back to get ready for work and in no time I found my way back there.

The people there were so happy to see me back again although not all of them know what really kept me away but hopefully they don't ask.

I went back to my assigned desk and men it didn't change. I set it up and it was time to go meet Aria for the case files.

I strolled down to her office and knocked before entering.

"Hello..." I said with a cheerful voice as soon as I set my eyes on her.

"Ellie good to see you, get over here," she ordered and I followed over to the table side.

"Here are the case files and here is the card of the legal office schedule a meeting as soon as possible and let's get this started," she said.

I took the files away and headed to my office to sort them. I went through all the paper and it looks good.

The case looks to favor my client so all is good. Now time to fix that meeting.

I called the legal office of EC Creations to schedule the meeting and fair enough it was sooner than I expected. The guy in charge Luke told me that they would see me as soon as possible.

We scheduled a meeting at lunchtime in a restaurant not too far from both our offices.

So in about two hours, I'll be on my way there to discuss the case in detail. In the meantime, my office could use a little makeover.

After some time I found my way into the restaurant and I have to admit I need to go out more.

The place was spot on. Anyway, I didn't come here to admire the place, let's find this Luke guy.

I took out my phone and attempted calling him and to my surprise there he was a few seats away.

I don't know how he recognized me but let's just start this meeting already.

"Hi, I am Ellie," I whispered as soon as I got to his table. I extended my arm to attempt a handshake and fair enough he was friendly.

He spoke my hands too and gestured for me to sit.

"I'm Luke, sorry for the misinformation. I wasn't sure..."

"It's okay can we proceed?" I asked.

"Well yes, but we would have to finalize it when the CEO comes by."

"That's great," I replied. Suddenly I felt off I didn't know if I was tense or if it was something else but I just needed a break.

"Would you excuse me for a second," I requested.

I headed to the restroom to wash my face and catch a breather only for someone to show up behind the mirror.

Out of everyone in the world, it just had to be James. As soon as our gaze collided, I turned away and attempted to flee but he caught my arm in the process.

"Let go of me you good-for-nothing backstabber...!" I yelled and forced his hands away from me.

"Look I'm sorry it wasn't my fault believe me," he seemed genuine about his claims but I wasn't buying it not now when I wanted to move on.

"I don't care, leave me and let me be..." I yelled and still wanted to go.

He held my arm for the second time and again I forced it away and tried to flea bumping into a gentleman in the process.
