CHAPTER SEVEN: The Sudden Change In Behavior

CHAPTER SEVEN: The Sudden Change In Behavior.

ELENA'S POV

It felt like a dream. The treasure ring was presented to Damien and he walked up to me with a smile as he suddenly got on one knee.

“My dearest Elena, will you make me the happiest man on earth and marry me… again?” He asked and I chuckled as I stretched my left hand towards him.

It was supposed to be fake, but my stomach did a little flip when he slipped the expensive hundred-million-dollar ring into my finger. He then placed a soft kiss on my hand before he got up and my face flushed when he winked at me.

“You're so extra and dramatic,” I mumbled softly and he glanced at me before shaking his head slightly.

“The world wants that, so we gotta give them that. Don't tell me you didn't like it.” He replied and I rolled my eyes even though I knew deep down within me that I loved it.

“You shouldn't have spent so much on it though. It's a beautiful ring but it's too damn expensive for a hundred million dollars!” I whispered harshly and he simply shrugged as his hand rubbed mine gently.

“You're my wife and whatever my wife wants, she gets. Why are you complaining? You're the one who wanted it.” He retorted and I pouted in response.

“I'm your wife on paper. None of this shit is real. You shouldn't be so careless next time. You're the one who set the rules yet you're the one who keeps forgetting it. Why spend so much money on me?” I muttered and I felt him stiffen beside me before he pulled his hand away from mine.

“You're right, it's all in the paper. How could I have forgotten about that?” He asked, his tone dropping to a lower and colder level, causing me to shudder slightly.

Did I say something wrong?”

“Mind you, I didn't get the ring just because you wanted it. Why would I attend an auction and not get anything? What will the crowd assume? Keep it safe, I'll probably sell it later.” He said coldly and I blinked in confusion.

I must have said something to offend him… but I couldn't remember saying anything offensive towards him.

Fortunately, the auction had ended and no one noticed the slight feud that was going on between us.

“Stay here. I'll greet a few people and then we'll go home.” He said and didn't give me a chance to respond before he left me behind.

Was he mad because I called him careless? But I've called him even worse. Why was he so mad this time?

I waited patiently in my seat, tapping on the chair slightly as I glanced at the pretty ring on my finger. I guess I should have been more grateful; it was worth so much, and my way of saying thank you was telling him that he was careless.

“How could you be so stupid, Elena? You could have told him later…” I mumbled to myself as I slapped myself on the forehead before wincing slightly.

“Be careful, pretty lady, you'll hurt yourself.” I heard someone say, and I turned to see that it was Adrian, my fucking ex-boyfriend. What was he doing here? Was Charlotte here too?

“Oh, I'm fine. I just remember something stupid that I did.” I replied with a smile even though all I wanted to do was punch him hard and gouge out his eyeballs with my ring.

“Why is a pretty lady like you all alone here? Do you need a little company?” He asked and I raised a brow at him in surprise.

Did he not know who I was or who my husband was? Was he always this dumb?

“Are you just coming? You didn't see me with someone when we came in?” I asked in surprise and he rubbed his neck nervously as he grinned.

“I actually just came in. I messed up the time for the event and I just realized that it was already over. I saw you sitting here feeling lonely and decided to keep you company.” He replied as he winked at me and I chuckled softly.

Damn, he really got very dumb.

“Oh, but I'm not lonely. I'm waiting for my special someone, my husband. You should probably leave now, wouldn't your wife be sad that you left her alone?” I asked and I saw his face fall at my words.

“I don't have a wife. My girlfriend died ten years ago.” He said and my eyes widened in shock. Died? How could Bro lie so clean through his teeth?

“Oh… I'm sorry for your loss.” I mumbled and he nodded as he wiped a fake tear off his face.

“That being said, since you're waiting for your special someone, can I be that to you? I might be the one you've been waiting for all along.” He said and my jaw dropped to the floor.

He actually misquoted my words…

“You don't understand, I told you that I was waiting for my husband. He'll be here soon.” I replied but he was damn adamant and so fucking dumb.

“I know, that's me. That's why I'm here.” He insisted and I facepalmed. I wished I had all these on recording so that I could show it to Charlotte's stupid face.

“Thank you for your time, mister, but I should leave now,” I said as I took my bag and stood up but he suddenly held my hand and stopped me from leaving.

“What are you doing? Let me go!” I yelled but his grip got even stronger. The hall was nearly empty and I struggled against his harsh grip.

“Why won't you listen to me? Don't you like me?” He asked harshly and I couldn't help but wonder if he was always this aggressive or if I was just blindly in love with him ten years ago.

“Let me go!” I yelled and just then, someone pulled him back and landed a sharp punch on his face while I gasped in shock.

“Didn't you hear my wife? She said to let her go!” Damien yelled as he punched him again until he was on the floor. Damien didn't stop punching him and I knew that if he didn't stop, he might kill him.

“Damien, stop, please!” I yelled, and his hand froze mid-air as he turned to look at me, his eyes burning with fury.

“He hurt you, so I have to kill him.”
