As the night descended, the evening breeze carried a familiar eerie chill which sent shivers down my spine. As I walked down the hallway heading to the Omega's den, I saw Jasmine and the others coming from an underground path. I quickly took cover behind the palace walls as I watched them walk out of sight.

“I think it’s the bad luck from her rejection that rubbed off on Chris,” one of the Omegas said as they walked through the hallway.

“I’m so going to make that den a living hell for that bitch,” Jasmine spat.

As soon as they left, I took a deep sigh as I made my way to where they came from, taking a fire candle which was carefully placed on the wall as I went underground. A stench filled my nose as I went deeper; next, it was the sight of dead bodies that filled the room.

The room was tight and stuffy with only a small hole where the moonlight escaped through. My heart dropped at the sight of Chris’ lifeless body, which had been cleaned up and clothed in one of his armless shirts and shorts.

His cold, pale face and skin weren't a pleasing sight to see. “Chris?” I called out, even though I knew he couldn’t hear me.

“I'm sorry,” I said with a wry smile, bowing my head lightly with heavy eyes. My eyes had grown so weak and puffy that I'd run out of tears. My mind darted back to his sweet and funny nature; even though I only knew him for a few hours, I felt like I'd known him for a long time.

I drew closer to him, placing a light kiss on his head. He was the only one who made me forget about all my sorrows in a matter of minutes, and now my bad luck had also rubbed off on him. “I'm so sorry,” I whispered.

Just then, the ray of the moonlight became stronger, shining brightly on his arms. I noticed the bright silver lining the moon gave him on his shoulders, making my brows furrow.

“I've seen this mark somewhere,” I thought.

Minutes later, I watched as the moon revealed the image of a Silverbird on his arm; it was then it hit me. Chris was a member of the Silverbird pack; they were the only ones who had this mark.

But if I remember correctly, he said his pack was attacked and killed.

My mind darted back to years ago when I walked with my dad to every pack meeting he held. He always invited the alpha of Chris’ pack to the palace and discussed pack issues.

“Good day, Alpha D.” My dad always referred to the alpha, Drake, as ‘Alpha D,’ which was a result of their closeness.

“Good day, Alpha Ol,” he teased my dad with a smile before turning his gaze to mini me. ‘Ol’ was the short form of Oliver.

“And if it isn't the great Luna Ximena,” he said, smiling down at me and making my cheeks turn red.

“Good day, Alpha D,” I said.

“Good day, my princess. I can see you've been doing great in your training, all thanks to your dad here, right?”

“Yes, Alpha D. Dad taught me some new fighting skills today; I’m sure I can even take you down now,” I replied in my tiny seven-year-old voice, corking my hands in a blow, making the two men burst out in laughter.

“That's okay, princess. How about you go meet your mom so you can freshen up and get some rest? Dad needs to discuss some serious issues, alright? When you’ve had some rest, daddy is going to show you some more skills you can use to take down Alpha D, okay?” Dad said in his deep voice, making Alpha D chuckle.

“Okay, father,” I replied before running off.

The silver packs were known for their healing abilities, so Dad was really close to the alpha as he was my pack's healer, but Dad often says they lived for ages and it was almost impossible to kill them. I shifted my gaze back to Chris as my eyes met the hole in his chest.

“Unless their heart was removed,” I mumbled under my breath. Chris wasn’t just killed because of the mirror offense; he was murdered by someone in the king’s army.

My eyes widened in shock at this realization; something didn’t seem right. “Why would anyone want Chris dead?” I wondered.

“What are you doing here?” a husky voice echoed in my ears. I turned slowly in the direction of the voice, my eyes meeting the glaring eyes of Damien.

“Uhm… erm… he’s my friend,” I managed to say. Just then Ruby’s voice echoed from the distant door. “Dammy, is everything alright?” she asked.

“Yes, baby,” he replied with a wicked grin on his face.

“Uhm… I’m so sorry, I’ll just take my leave now,” I said. Just as I got to where he was, I felt his strong grip on my hand, his claws digging deep into my skin.

“You’re still my rejected mate,” he said with a slithering voice. I just gave him a deadly glare before yanking my hands off his grip.

“That’s your loss,” I spat at him before making my way out. As I got to the door, my eyes met Ruby’s, which made my expression grow soft, but at this point, I knew I had lost my friend and whoever was in front of me wasn’t the Ruby I knew.

Our eyes were filled with unspoken words as our gaze never parted until I made my way out of the morgue and continued my journey back to the Den.

When I arrived, I was greeted by the glaring eyes of the girls in the room, including Mrs. Bernice, all standing in front of me as if they were awaiting my return.

“Well, well, well, if it isn't the traitor and the murderer,” Jasmine was the first to speak. I tried to move past her when I felt a heavy push on my chest, sending me to the ground.

“I'm not in the mood for your trouble, Jasmine,” I said, trying to stand up, but the hard kick on my stomach sent me back to the ground.

“Control it, Ximena, control it…” I heard my mom's voice caution me in my head. She's always been there to tame my anger each time I try to blow my cover. I bit down on my lower lip as I finally got myself up, taking a look at Mrs. Bernice, hoping she would say something, but instead, she stood there and did nothing.

Her nonchalant stare made me stare at her in shock; it seemed everyone here was against me.

“You have to fight back, Ximena, you have to be the strong hybrid that you are,” Talia's weak voice spoke to me, making my eyes widen in awe. This was the first time she had tried to say something since the rejection.

“Talia?” I called out to her using my mind link, but that was it; I couldn't feel her anymore.

Before I could utter a word, I was silenced by a thunderous slap from Jasmine as she pulled my hair backward and slammed me against the wall.

“Ouch,” I groaned in pain as I held my stomach.

“All he did was welcome you, bitch, and the best you could do was send him to his early grave, huh?!” She yelled, picking me up and grabbing me by the neck, pinning me to the wall.

“Get off me, Jasmine,” I managed to mumble some words, but she just tightened her grip on my neck.

“Fight, Ximena!!” Talia growled. Just then, I felt strength surging through my nerves, my skin pores became heightened as I grabbed Jasmine by her neck. I felt my eyes light up; with that, I sent Jasmine's body flying into the air, slamming her body into the wall, leaving a crack mark on it.

This made everyone gasp in awe as they stared at me. “I said get off me,” I muttered, rubbing my neck as the grip of her claws made it ache.

I stared at everyone with blaring eyes before I made my way to Chris’ cabin, funny how they all just stood there without uttering a word and all they could do was stare at me like I was the villain here. I slammed the door shut behind me before slumping myself to the hard bed as I wallowed there in my emotions.

“I almost lost it out there today,” I thought, if mom was still alive she would be so mad at me, but I had to do something, I just couldn't bear the weight of being bullied and picked on all the time.

“You'll have to control yourself from now on Ximena.” I heard mom’s voice again. I heaved a deep sigh and tried reaching out to Talia again, but I still couldn't. It was like my wolf was trapped inside me. It's frustrating  how they just keep leaving me with their voices and instructions to follow without actually helping me out.

“Oh moon goddess, haven't you punished me enough?” I cried
