Irresistible Attraction
Damon
I've had to sit in this board meeting for hours but somehow I just couldn't concentrate on a damn thing. I was totally fucked. I'd never felt this way about a woman before, not even the one I was married to. Yet, for some unexplainable reason I couldn't get Lisa out of my head.
I saw her first. The moment she slapped asshole Collins in the face, I knew she was a keeper. I couldn't keep my eyes off her nor could I stop thinking about how brazen she was. I was supposed to close a business deal with Max Collins but my head was buried deep in her eyes.
“What do you think Damon?”
“I would rather like to hear what Axel thinks.”
Axel was my greatest rival. He wants my father's company for himself, even though he isn't my father's son. Well, he'll need to try harder because I wouldn't let it go so easily. But that doesn't mean he isn't tailing me closely. All I need to do is to make one simple mistake. As simple as thinking about Lisa when there's a luxurious diamond ring on my finger that binds me to another woman.
“Alright.” I continued when Axel finished. I didn't hear the earlier discussion but I knew Axel did. He might have been a pain in the ass but he was almost as good as me when it comes to making decisions.
“Let's go with Axel's angle.”
I made a few corrections, assigned the necessary to-dos and ended the meeting. I was back in my office trying to dig out Annie's contact information when Axel walked in.
“Hey, brother.”
“I'm not your brother, Axel. I'm your worst nightmare.” I deadpanned.
“Hey, Lucifer.” He corrected.
“Sounds more like it.”
“You seem to have a lot on your mind this morning. I know you asked me to step in and answer in your stead because you weren't following.”
Of course he did. “And so what?” I asked.
“And so? You owe me an explanation.”
“I owe you nothing. Absolutely nothing. Now if you are done yapping you can use the door and have a long day ahead.”
He eyed me down before asking, “Were you able to deal with Mr. Collins yesterday?”
“Not that it is any of your business but we rescheduled for today. Mr. Collins seemed a little… ruffled.”
“Was it Mr. Collins or you who couldn't concentrate?”
I sent him a death glare before hardening my tone saying, “I do not have a problem with concentration, Axel. Mr Collins on the other hand had a rough time at the restaurant. His booking was wrongly assigned to someone else and he was also slapped in the face by the said guests who were given his reservation. I had to step in and pay for a VIP reservation but he was still shaken from the slap. He was slapped twice and was at the verge of the third when the manager stepped in.”
“That was quite unfortunate. Sounds horrible. So you'll be closing the deal today?”
“Yes. Get out of my office.”
Axel huffed but consented this time and I finally had my space. I found Annie's number and dialed,
“Hey, Damon. Didn't think you still had my contact. It was nice seeing you yesterday.”
Annie and I were friends since we were kids because we were both from wealthy and powerful families. That's just how it works.
“Of course I do. I was going to ask what Lisa does for your father's business.”
“Hmmmn, I see someone's in love. Anyway, I'm not going to tell you. You're gonna have to come see for yourself.”
“I'm not in love, Hannah. I'm just curious.” I deadpanned.
“Well there's no fun in telling but there's lots of fun in seeing. And she'd be really pissed if I told you. Trust me, you don't want to piss Lisa off.”
I knew that bit. After she slapped New York's most eligible and most affluent bachelor two times in one night.
“Okay. So where am I coming?”
“I'll text you the address. We'll prepare specially for you lover birds.”
“I'm not in love, Hannah. Just curious.”
“Keep telling yourself that.” She said before hanging up.
I hurried to finish up my tasks and meetings for the day. Delegated as much as I could before hurried to the new restaurant I bought earlier that day for a meeting with Max Collins. I was able to seal the deal neatly. So, there was no better way to celebrate than a good drink at Club Eclipse. But one phone call was enough to force me to postpone my visit to Club Eclipse.
“Damon” Felicia's voice filled my ears. “I miss you.”
“Well, I'm busy. You will have to wait.” I replied coldly.
“But we have dinner with your father tonight. It will be odd if I go alone and you were barely home yesterday. You arrived very late into the night.”
“Might I remind you, Felicia, that our marriage is only one of convenience. You have no right to my time or affection. I can stay out for as long as I desire and do whatsoever I please. Same with you. So don't bother with lines like “I miss you.” They are for proper wives. And you're not one. Do you understand?” I asked sternly.
“Yes.” She grumbled. “What about dinner?”
“Get ready. I'll arrive with Walter to pick you up in an hour.”
Shouldn't take that long but I was already on my way to Club Eclipse so it'll take a while to re-route. Until I got my inheritance I had to keep kissing my father's ass by doing things like going to those dumb family dinners.
Felicia graciously kept her mouth shut after we picked her up. We drove quietly to the mansion and received a warm welcome from my mother.
“Damon, my boy, it's so nice to see you. I didn't think you'd make it.” She said, pulling me into a warm embrace.
“He wasn't thrilled about coming but he couldn't stand the thought of spending the night alone without me.” Felicia lied smoothly.
“Oh, Felicia, what would I ever do without you. Thank you for bringing him.” My mother cooed giving Felicia one of her famous warm hugs
I walked farther into the house and settled down for dinner. “Let's just get this over with, shall we.”
“Damon. Good to see you too. I heard you sealed the deal with Collins today.” My father stated flatly as he entered the room.
I'm sure that was Axel. I wouldn't even have been surprised to hear that he hired Axel to spy on me.
“Hello Father. The deal was sealed.”
“Have you started trying to make babies?” My mother asked casually, serving some food onto her plate.
“Is there a need to rush?” I asked.
“We aren't getting any younger Damon, you're our only child. By now you should have given us a number of grandchildren. Unfortunately, you're so slow. We even had to force you to consider marriage. My father barked.
“Lucien!” My mum scolded. “Cut the boy some slack, I'm sure he's trying.” Mother said, trying to calm him down. But he wasn't having it. I wasn't even surprised when he said,
“You need to try harder.”
That's how he had always been. Cold. Competitive. Ambitious. Nothing I did was ever good enough. I'd had a consistent first-place winning streak at school and in competitions. Although my father dad never attended a single one of those events. All he ever did was poke holes into every single achievement I made. If I was first place and I didn't get a perfect score of 100, then I was a failure.
But tonight, for the first time, I wasn't angry or bitter because my heart was filled with something else. Lust. Lust towards a certain Lisa who I knew next to nothing about.
But I'll find out, I promised myself. Tomorrow.
