Chapter 13 : THE RAGE
DANTE'S POV
“We are here sir.” Ganzo announced as he stopped the car. I glanced at the location with unfamiliarity and sighed. This was the address Carlos sent me.
I stepped out from the car and buttoned my suit, glancing left and right once more, I entered the building and was welcomed by Carlos' men.
“Boss is waiting for you in the lobby.” One of the men said as he led me to the lobby. When I got there, I found Carlos puffing smoke into the air as he held the cigarette with his left hand.
“Dante D'Angelo. It's good to see you again.” He mumbled before motioning for me to sit opposite him.
“It would be good if you showed me the full video, I would like to know who killed my family.” I spoke with no formality and Carlos chuckled.
“Straight to business huh?” He spoke as he summoned one of his men to bring something. Soon, the man came in with a laptop and after booting, he fixed a flash drive and played the video to me.
There was a lot of wailing and yelling in the video, gunshots flying in the air suddenly I held my breath when I saw my Mother getting shot.
“How dare…” I gritted my teeth as I tried to control my anger.
“We are almost in the interesting part, the reveal.” Carlos dropped a spoiler and gulped nothing down my throat in anticipation.
Suddenly, I started hearing a chant.. more like they were hailing him.” Make way for the new Don. Enzo!” I heard the name and I stood up from my seat in shock.
“Enzo Moretti?” I questioned and Carlos chuckled calmly.
“I'm guessing you're very familiar with him, Enzo Moretti, a close friend of your family, Your sister's childhood friend killed your family members and took her captive.” Carlos instigated and I fumed in anger.
“How dare he!” I yelled angrily as I pushed the laptop to the floor, I couldn't watch more betrayal, his name felt like a thorn piercing my flesh.
“Arghhh!” I groaned loudly as I continued lashing out my anger by throwing everything I could lay my hands on.
Carlos' men tried to prevent me from doing further but Carlos motioned for them to leave me.
“Let him do whatever he wants.” He spoke, still calm as he continued smoking his cigarettes.
My eyes, bloodshot in anger, I could feel my veins popping from my neck and head, my breath was becoming hitched and I struggled to maintain my regular breathing rhythm.
“I would make sure I end Enzo, if it's the last thing I would do!” I yelled.
“I hope you're calm now.” I heard Carlos say and I turned to him.” I would never be calm until I see Enzo's head separated from his body.” I replied coldly.
“Then let's get to work, I personally have a beef with him, once I lead him to you, you hand over your sister. Easy.” Carlos spoke.
Suddenly, Ganzo ran towards me, panting heavily. “ Sir, I heard your voice, what's the matter?”
“Enzo Moretti did this to me, he is with my sister.” I mumbled and the shock and surprise on Ganzo's face was evident.
“What are you going to do sir?” Ganzo asked and I turned to look at Carlos.
“Patient… that's all we need to attack. Patient.” There was a sinister look on Carlos face and clenched my fist ready for any attack.
Enzo's assistant, Franco, approached him with a worried expression. "What are we going to do?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.
Franco's eyes locked onto Enzo's, his brow furrowed. "Can't you give him the girl?" he suggested, his tone hesitant.
Enzo shook his head, his mind racing with the thought of parting with Diana. The unfamiliar feelings that had been growing inside him made it impossible for him to consider letting her go. His heart would never forgive him.
"I can't let her go," Enzo said firmly, his voice resolute.
Franco's expression turned serious. "Carlos Lombardi won't agree to it, he won't let it slide... Carlos would try to go the extra mile to get whatever he wants."
Enzo's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched. "If he goes an extra mile, I would go thousands of kilometers. I know what he wants her for, and I won't agree to it."
Franco suggested moving Diana to a different location, somewhere Carlos wouldn't think to look. "Why not move her to a place where no one would ever know?" he asked, his voice laced with logic.
Enzo considered the idea, but ultimately dismissed it. "It's better to keep her under my watch here than to take her somewhere else. Carlos dare not step into my property again. He knows better."
With a nod, Franco left Enzo to his thoughts. Enzo stood up, his eyes fixed on the door to Diana's room. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should go in or not.
Finally, he unlocked the door and entered the room. His eyes scanned the space, searching for Diana. He found her curled up on the bed, sleeping peacefully. Or was she pretending?
Enzo walked closer to the bed, his eyes fixed on Diana's face. He sat down beside her, admiring her beauty even in sleep. His hand reached out, seemingly of its own accord, and gently grazed her cheek.
Diana's eyes fluttered open, and Enzo's hand froze in mid-air. They stared at each other, the silence between them thick with tension. Enzo wanted to know what was going through her mind, but Diana's expression was inscrutable.
The silence was finally broken by Diana's words, her voice low and husky.
"I hate you, Enzo Moretti."
