Chapter 19 : BETRAYAL UNVEILED

DIANA'S POV

That voice…  We slowly turned around to face Carlos Lombardi. I could see his hot glare directed to Enzo and I glanced at Enzo, wondering what he was going to do.

We have been caught, my hopes of freedom were just shattered into tiny bits that can't be mended anymore. These past few days I was locked in Carlos abode, I felt empty and meaningless, I knew it was difficult to escape and honestly…. I was afraid of Carlos.

Enzo's grip on my wrist tightened that I had to twitch inwardly. A sense of safety gushed over me as I knew Enzo wouldn't let me go.

There was something off about the whole fiasco and I needed answers, I wanted to know why there is a feud between these two and how I became the centre of war.

“You of all people hate when intruders trespass in your base but you had the guts to come here?” Carlos spoke, I could feel the anger brewing in his voice as he walked closer to us.

“You started it, you stole her away.” Enzo answered coldly.

“Isn't it rightful for you to give her to me!” Carlos yelled.

“Is that why you sent your men to smear blood in my base by killing my men?” Enzo barked in the same tone.

I looked at both men in fear and unknowingly clutched Enzo's shirt to calm him.

“You didn't keep the part of your deal, I had to take her by force!”

“You want her for a selfish reason!”

“It's none of your business what I do to her.” Carlos paused as he pushed his hair back. “Keep your part of the deal and hand her to me nicely.”

Deal? What were they talking about? I swallowed the lump in my throat so hard that I found it difficult to regularize my breathing pattern. I needed to understand what was going on here and keeping quiet won't answer these troubling questions.

“Wh..what deal are you talking about?” I asked, glancing at the two men at intervals.

“Tell her, Don't you want to tell her?” Carlos spiked as he glared at Enzo.

“Tell me what?” I mumbled, trying to release my hands from his grip.

Enzo kept mute as he gritted his teeth, I had never seen him so angry and the more I tried to release my hand, the more his grip tightened.

“Are you now Quiet, Don.” Carlos mocked as he came closer to us,  his eyes fixed on me.

“Since our Don has gone dumb, I would do you the honor.

Oh… I love telling interesting stories…ha..ha…ha.” His hysterical laugh resonated the whole area and I breathed heavily.

“Enzo came to me for a deal to have you in exchange to your family… Let me put it in clearer terms.

You're my leverage in exchange for an ally to kill your family.” Carlos spoke and my eyes bulged in shock as tears gathered around it, threatening to fall if I blinked.

Enzo made me a collateral to get help to kill my family?

Enzo's grip on me released and he charged forward to Carlos, gripping him by the collar.

“How dare you!” Enzo barked angrily and Carlos smirked unapologetically.

Next, he sent a heavy punch towards Carlos and he was not quick to dodge it. I watched helplessly as they both fisted and fought each other.

My mind was far from the present moment. I glanced at Enzo again and I couldn't help but resent him. He had severed all our friendship by killing my family but wasn't it enough for him? Now I understand why he had spared me.

He sold me to this beast… Both of them are beasts, trying to peel the flesh off my body. I felt  hot tears rolling down my cheeks and I dabbed them before It fell to the floor.

“He isn't what he says he is, Enzo couldn't keep his part of the deal so I have to take you.” Carlos' voice continued before Enzo threw him to the floor in rage.

I heard more footsteps approaching and  I glanced around to see we were surrounded by Carlos men.

Enzo ran towards me and stood in front of me in defense. There was a part of me that wanted to push him out of my sight, I wanted to tear him into pieces and run for my life but how can I when I have been cornered and there was no hope for an escape.

“There's no way out now.” Carlos stood up as he wiped his dripping nose with his hands. He brought it to his sight and chuckled at the sight of blood.

Franco suddenly came into view and was astonished at the sight before him, he fired a gun in the air and everyone's attention turned to him.

“Get her out of here now!” Enzo commanded and Just before Franco could obey, Carlos' men came forward and began a physical combat with the two men.

I glanced at the number of men against the two and couldn't help but panic. This was a war of defeat, what was I going to do?

“Go through that hole and run without looking back.” Franco managed to tell me amidst the chaos and I gazed at Enzo who was fighting fiercely.

“We would be fine, now go!” Franco yelled, attracting Carlos.

“She's escaping, After her now!” I Heard Carlos' shrewd voice and my legs began to feel wobbly. I needed to run if I wanted to be free.

I took my heels and began running. I could sense some of Carlos' men trying to pursue me but as I turned back I saw Enzo and Franco preventing them.

This was my chance of escape but as I took another step forward, I heard the sound of a gunshot and everywhere became silent.

Instinctively I turned around and my eyes bulged in realization.

“ENZO!!!” I screamed in terror.
