CHAPTER 3

As I walked through the hostel lobby, my mind was engulfed with so many thoughts, as I didn't know what to make of the call. I didn't know why he was calling me, and I also didn't know what to expect.

The pathway to the school lobby looked extremely secluded. Well, it was normal for most of the students to be at the cafeteria at that time of the day.

Finally, I got to the lobby, and there was a student inside his office, so, I had to wait until he finished up with the student before I entered inside.

"Hello, sir." I greeted. "You sent for me," I said with a polite smile.

My Good, paused for a slight second, as he calmly looked at me from head to toe.

"Oh yes, I did." He responded swiftly, before falling back into a long round of silence.

I paused in anticipation, as I wanted to know why he sent for me, and what he might want to tell me.

"So, the school chose you to stay with the new transfer student for a reason." He began. "Peter, would return any time from tomorrow, and I want you to be very welcoming." He continued, and I slightly nodded.

I didn't even have much to say until I came in contact with the said boy.

"Alright, Mr Good. I hope he'd be of good conduct." I said with a slight smile, as I took my time to glance through his office.

The walls had large paintings on them, which symbolized some kind of cultural representation. However, I could also see a jar of tobacco on his table, as it looked absolutely surreal.

It was pretty much kind of awkward or common to me, as Mr Good, had been filled with so much controversies in the past few months. He was an American man, probably in his middle fifties.

There's been speculations that he sleeps with some of the students in exchange for good grades. However, none of all these lies has been proven to be true.

He looked flirty, and I'm sure that he knew the caliber of students that he could possibly mess with. Not someone like me.

"Anything else, sir?" I asked politely.

He paused for some long seconds, before responding to me.

"No... No... If there's anything else, I'll let you know." He responded, and without wasting any more time, I immediately stood up from his chair and headed out.

The wave of cold air immediately hit my nostrils, as I walked out of his office. It was evening, and by this time, it was common to see some of the students in the cinema, lawn tennis court, or even the sports arena. However, the good ones could still be seen in the library.

As I walked out, I stood on the verandah for about ten seconds, as I tried to process what my next movement was going to be.

"Where was I going to?" I asked myself with a sigh. Slowly, I sluggishly dragged myself to the sports pavilion. Luckily for me, not many students were there, and that gave me the closure I needed at that instant.

As I sat there in quietness, I was soon awakened by a consistent thought that kept running through my mind.

It was about Jack.

What did he even want from him?

Did he deserve to be given a chance?

It was quite obvious that he had always wanted to have something with me, but somehow, I was discouraged. Maybe, because he wasn't my type, or maybe, because I didn't feel anything for him.

Quietly, I picked up my earphones and covered my ears with it. I couldn't wait to escape my reality by playing soft music.

Just as I fully relaxed to enjoy my music, I felt a hand touch my back, and at that instant, I felt it was definitely Jack.

Alas, I was very wrong.

It was Kentucky, my best friend. Damn! The last time I checked, he wasn't back to school, and I had been quite busy with getting my things together.

"Bro!" I jumped on him, with the speed of light. I was absolutely overwhelmed with absolute happiness and smiles.

He had a beautiful personality, too.

Kentucky, was a twenty-one years old Brazilian American with Afro descent. He was very muscular athletic, and that set him apart. Aside these attributes, he was quite good in sports, especially football and basketball. Infact, he was a guru in all sports.

Aside his athletic side, he was academically endowed. He was a constant topper, and one of my academic rivals.

"Mark, you're crazy!" He yelled at me, and I tightened my grip on him, even more.

"Yeah, baby!" I mumbled, and we both burst out into a long session of laughter.

I looked into Kentucky's eyes with a bright smile, as his presence had just brightened my mood.

"If I hadn't come to look for you, you wouldn't have bothered coming to search for me," Kentucky said to me with a firm gaze, and I paused with a smile.

"I honestly did look for you, but you weren't back. What happened? Why did you take so long to come back?" I asked with a concerned gaze.

He paused, as we disengaged from each other's embrace.

"I traveled to Thailand for vacation. My Visa was delayed, and it affected my return trip. To make matters worse, Dad's private jet wasn't allowed into the country for security reasons." He narrated.

As he spoke, I nodded my head in total understanding. I could relate to this story, as the Visa delay, was just another issue on its own.

"I'm so glad you're back. Where are my goodies?" I asked him with a pout, and he smiled at that instant.

"Let's go to my room."

Immediately, I stood from the pavilion, picked up my headphones, and swiftly walked behind him, as we both headed to the hostel.

In the past, a lot of people had tried to come in between our friendship, but it ends up literally impossible.
