Chapter Six
Raven's Pov
"Oh, great heavens!!" I whisper in shock and disgust as my eyes skim through the pages.
The Obsidian Spires were not as clean as they portrayed themselves to be. They have committed so many heartless behaviours, and noone knows about it. The book's first page was filled with images of how the rulers treated women they had obtained from battles they had won. This person would torture these women and children to a bloody state, then rape them and continue the action repeatedly.
They would make men into animals and force them to do sick things before ending their lives. They had also gotten involved in dark magic to win countless battles and used their newborns as sacrifices, making women childbearing machines.
As I read the content, I couldn't help the disgust that spread over my face. I was more shocked to see this generation had also had so many disgusting atrocities, from slavery, raping, and destruction to packs that have done nothing wrong with the use of dark magic, which had so many effects on embezzlement.
Kael was always known to be a tyrant; heck, I knew before I was informed about the marriage, but I never knew they had such disgusting things under their sleeves. Everyone knew he ruled ruthlessly and never showed mercy or any form of emotion, but I reconsidered my negative thoughts about him these few days I had spent with him. Right now, reading all these disgusting things, I don't think I can ever look at him in any clean way.
Too disgusted to read the contents or look at the vivid sketches, I flip away the pages. This time, it was a picture of the moon and a brewing storm.
Confused by the image, I decided to read through the lines. It seems to be a prophecy meant for this generation: " The Moon's daughter and the Storm heir will bring peace or destruction to the pack."
Another image represented destruction, while the other represented peace.
"what does this mean...? Moon's daughter? Storm heir? I don't....."
Immediately, I paused, and a thought ran through my head as I stared down at the book. The symbol of my parents' pack flashed through my mind, which was of a man worshipping the bright moon, then the symbol of Kael's pack, which is of a man standing next to a brewing storm.
"No! it can't be...." I gasped, covering my mouth in shock as I reread the prophecy.
"The Moon's daughter and then Storm heir will bring peace and destruction."
As the realisation hit me, my stomach began to turn in discomfort and irritation. There was no way they had predicted this marriage; they knew something would happen. But what could it be? And what does this prophecy mean? How could Kael and I union bring destruction
The several questions flowing in my head at once brought a wave of dizziness, causing me to stumble backwards, hitting one of the books
Just then, a loud noise erupts through the quiet room, a few lights go off, and then one of the bookshelves automatically moves on its own.
Quickly, I scramble away, making a safe distance between me and the moving shelf with my heart in my throat in fear.
Finally, it stops moving, revealing an open space.
"No, no, not again...another hidden place? " I said to myself in frustration as I stared at the opened door. In just a few hours, I had discovered two places that seemed to be restricted to people, and I had discovered things that weren't meant to be known, especially by me.
But I am very grateful to that monster for bringing me here; if not, I wouldn't have known how terrible and disgusting this pack was.
With a frown and determination to find out the truth, I step towards the opened door and slowly and cautiously walk in. Immediately, the large door locks behind me, and several lights switch on, revealing underground stairs.
My heart was beating at an incredible rate that I feared it might soon burst out from my chest. I was walking into an unknown danger with no protection; if anything happened, noone would know I was there. I seem to be deep inside the pack house, which means it would be impossible to find me
"Oh, moon goddess, what am I getting myself into?" I whisper to myself while slowly moving down the scary-looking stairs.
Each step I take causes the woods to make a stress sound, indicating their age. Dust and webs are everywhere, and unknown stains are on the walls and floor.
The further I go down, the thicker the smell that oozes from there invades my nostrils. I immediately use my garment to cover up my nose from the horrible smell while I go down the stairs
After a long descent, I finally reached level ground, and it seemed it was really a long way down here. The smell was now prominent; it was something I couldn't describe. The whole place was dim, making it hard for me to make out my surroundings or move further.
I turned towards the stairs, hoping to see something that would assist me with light, but unfortunately, nothing was in sight. Right before I was about to turn, I caught sight of a switch giving the impression of a light switch
Not wasting any more seconds, I walked towards it and flipped it. Luckily, it was actually the light switch.
Just as the light came on, I realised how big the place was, but the vast, built cells caught most of my attention.
I took a few steps further and then began to notice a few disturbing things like some weird tools hung on the walls, human skeleton sprawled around carelessly, both adult and children
My heart constricts from all this, and I finally understand where the smell comes from. This isn't just an ordinary holding cell; something else is happening here.
My legs felt weak, my heart was racing, my mind reeled, and disgust was etched on my face as I moved further into the room, checking each cell.
There was still fresh blood in a few cells ground, while few had decomposing bodies and skulls
Words from the book kept reciting in my head: this people are dangerous; they have done so many disgusting things, and this is just the proof of it
Suddenly, I heard a sound or a voice—I couldn't quite tell as it was low and distant. I stop in my tracks, hoping to catch the sound once again, but it never comes.
Even with fear growing in my chest, I chose to move further. I needed to understand what happened here. Why do they have a deep underground dungeon as big as this, and most especially, why has it been used recently?
"They are back! They are back!"
This time, I caught the voice vividly and heard several movements. Quickly, I picked up my pace and followed the sound, which brought me to almost the end of the room.
"shh sh move,” someone says within the big cell
I couldn't quite see as this place was dimmer than the rest, and the smell seemed to be stronger here
"who's there?!! show your face!!" I demanded with the bit of courage I had left inside me
The place goes entirely; noone made a sound or any movement, but I could feel their presence and hear their heartbeats
"I said, who is there!! show yourself this instant !!" I said, firmly this time
Within a second, a figure appears, moving closer to the cell bars. This way, I could clearly make out the individual.
It was a man, but he didn't look like an ordinary man; he had a hunch back with a few strands of hair loosely clinging to his swollen head. His clothes were worse than rags; his face was disfigured entirely with dried blood and something else on it.
I was first a bit terrified at his appearance but then remembered the words in the book. This man could be innocent, a member of another park brought here for slavery and torture
"wha-what's your name ?" I blurt out
His head snaps up towards me, seeming surprised, "my-my name ?" he questions
"Ye-yes, your name. Tell me your name and why you are in here."
The man stared at me again, though I couldn't make out his features but I couldn't sense the surprise from my question
"I'm Frederic, Frederic from the Western Ave Pack, and I was brought here several years ago after my pack was brutally defeated," I say, his voice shaking and scratchy to the ears
My heart drops at this revelation, which means all that was written in the book was correct. Part of me didn't want to believe, but seeing and hearing all this, I think it'll be hard for me not to believe.
"Can I ask you a question? It seems you have been here for quite a long time, and I feel you should be able to give me an answer to my question" I begin a bit hesitant
"I promise we didn't make any noise!! We did as they asked; the last child has been killed; please spare us!" he suddenly began to plead, falling on the floor
My breath hitches, and my world stops as his words register. Were they still doing that? They were still sacrificing children ?!!
"we will speak on that later; I need you to tell me if you know about the Obsidian Spire prophecy, the one with the Moon daughter and Storm heir."
"ye-yes yes I do, the dark prophecy, the powerful Moon daughter, she will stop this or get consumed into the darkness!!!" he says instead to loudly
My pulse rate had increased, and my whole body had shaken up. There was so much more to this story, so much I needed to know before it was too late.
