Chapter One
Eva's POV
“How many times do I have to repeat myself, Evangeline Carter…” my boss's voice trailed off as I stood before her, taking the scolding she was throwing off at me. It wasn't a new thing so I just stood there, waiting for her to stop.
The ringing phone from the counter snapped my out of my daze. I glanced back at the old landline sitting on the counter of the old CD rental shop. Anyone would wonder who still ran this type of CD business in this century but it just kinda happens. And it's shocking it actually sells well.
“Get the phone Evangeline.” Mr Langley, the manager, barked from the backroom.
I sighed, wiping my hands on my faded jeans before picking the receiver. “Jenny's CD Rentals, how can I help you?” .
“Miss Carter?” A deep, unfamiliar voice came through the line. I didn't know why the voice gave me chills but I listened. “We're calling concerning Carter Jake’s debt of a million dollars plus interest. Immediate settlement.”
My breath caught. “W-what?” That's a mistake–”
“Not a mistake.” the man interrupted. “Your father owes a million dollars. The payment is long overdue. If it's not settled soon, the consequences would be brutal.”
My stomach twisted. “That can't be right. My father wouldn't–”
“The address for payment is The Golden Fang Club. Be there tonight by 10. Bring cash.”
A click and the line went dead. I hurriedly tried reaching it but it didn't exist anymore.
I clutched the receiver, my hands trembling and heart pounding. A millionaire dollars? I haven't even seen that amount of money in my life. That was impossible. I barely made enough to take care of his medical bills, and now a huge debt? Who owes a million dollars to loan sharks?
The hospital smelled like antiseptic and overworked nurses. I couldn't get used to the scent everytime I visited but it wasn't like I had any choice at all. I dashed into my father's room, where he was laid looking frail and weak.
For a moment, I paused, wondering whether to go on with my interrogation but I just had to know if this wasn't some kind of scam. “Dad?” I whispered, walking over to his bedside.
“Eva?” He rasped, slowly opening his eyes. “Why aren't you at work?”
“Father is it true you're owing some loan sharks money?” I cut to the chase immediately and from the look on his face, I could tell I had hit the exact spot. I was right. “How could you do that without telling me first, father? How am I to pay a million dollars when I have thousands of dollars going for your weekly bills?”
I could see the guilt in his eyes as he looked up at me with a weak gaze. “I am so sorry about this, Eva. I was desperate. Before you knew about the hospital bills and your mother's funeral, I didn't know when I borrowed under heavy interest conditions.”
The guilt in his eyes made my heart ache. It was a huge deal he was going through now and I was here talking about some debts to make him even more guilty than he already was? “It's okay, father. I'll handle it.”
“But, Eva–”
“Trust me, dad.” I said, giving him my best smile as I tapped his hands. Those crazy loan sharks. It was illegal business and they were just trying to rip my father off his money due to his desperation back then.
Night had settled over the city, and with it, a different kind of energy. That's how the city was and I was used to it. But I wasn't used to this side of the city.
The Golden Fang Club was not what I expected it to be at all. I stepped out of the cab, looking up at the highrise building. It looked more like a company to me like an underground association. But despite that, I didn't fail to get the feel that I wasn't cut out for this type of place as I could see spotlights shine out of the glass walls.
I exhaled sharply. I was here to demand evidences for how my father's bills would be that much. If I didn't see the conditions, I won't go ahead with the payment no matter what threat I was given. I might just be a lowly weak omega, but I could still stand for what's right.
The huge steel entrance was guarded by two enormous men cladded in black suits and shades. From the scent I could catch from them, I could tell they were strong alphas. “Invitation.” One of them demanded, looking down at me.
“I-I am Evangeline Carter.” I stuttered. “I'm looking for the head of this place.”
They both glanced between themselves, their expression stone cold. “I'm afraid you can't get in without an invitation.”
“Are you kidding me? An invitation? I just told you I want to see the head of this place concerning a debt. Isn't this Golden Fang Club?” I pointed out as calmly as I can. It was taking all my self control not to stutter as I stood before them.
Before the two could speak again, I felt a chilly presence behind me. I didn't notice anyone walk up to me. He was standing there, hands in his pocket and a cigarette dangling between his lips. His ember eyes felt as if they were piercing into my being. I couldn't stand the immense pressure coming from him.
“Lost little Omega?” He asked, his voice deep and chilly at the same time.
“I-I am E-Evangeline Carter. I am here t-to see the head of t-this place.” I stuttered like a fool, trembling under his gaze.
“And what business do you have with him?”
“He's trying to rip me off my money. I need terms on a debt I was called on today or I won't ne paying a dime, no matter the consequences.” I said, standing my ground. I clutched my bag tightly, making sure I didn't let go despite the fear in my chest.
“Carter.” He hummed, taking the cigarette he had between his teeth all this while. “That's a hold statement for someone with trembling legs, don't you think, kitten?”
Kitten? I wasn't some kind of cat.
“Hey, I have a name and it is… Evangeline.” I trialed off as I stared into his eyes. Do I seriously want to yell at a man like this? He obviously holds a lot of power and wealth from everything he had on. Angering him would only add to my problem. “Forget it.”
“You're intriguing. I like you.” He said with a low chuckle, reaching out to touch my hair but I stepped back. Not after he grabbed a few strands though.
“Dominic Vaughan, owner of Golden Fang.” He said, giving me a hearty smile which I could tell was fake.
But wait. Dominic Vaughan?
As in Dominic Vaughan, the next in line to the Supreme alpha throne.
I took a step back, finally falling on my Hutt due to the pressure. He squatted, staring at me with an amused gaze. “I don't take visitors, but I'll make an exception for you, Kitten on one condition.”
My throat felt dry. Coming across people like this wasn't a good sign at all. Not only did I get into a huge pile of debt, I also caught the attention of Dominic Vaughan, the ruthless crown prince.
“C-condition?”
A smile played on his lips as he leaned in, his lips sligh
tly brushing against my ears. I felt sparks. Literal sparks.
“Marry me, Evangeline.”
