Chapter Two

Eva's POV

I must have misheard him. That must be it. I really must have misheard him.

The sounds of the city around me faded and so did the booming of the music from the building behind me. All I could hear was my own heartbeat, loud and erratic. I was hit by the pressure from him and now a proposal to marry him?

“W-what?” My voice came out as nothing more than as whisper as much as I wanted to voice out.

Dominic Vaughan was still crouched before me, his black shirt unbuttoned just enough to reveal a hint of his defined chest. His dark hair was obviously styled by professionals. Even in the dim night light, I could see the sharp features on his face. His jaw was perfectly carved by the creator and thos lips, up in a knowing smirk. This wasn't the time to be admiring him.

“You heard, kitten.” he murmured. “Marry me.”

I scrambled to my feet, my breath shallow. “A-are you insane?”

His smirk widened even more. “Debatable. Do you know how cute you sound when you stutter, Kitten?”

I shook my head. This wasn't happening. Was this some kind of twisted joke? I came here to get answers concerning my father's debts, not to be proposed to by the boss of the loan sharks and one of the supposed powerful alphas in existence.

Dominic rose to his full height, towering over me. The sheer force of his presence made my omega instincts scream at me to lower my gaze, to submit, but I clenched my fist, refusing to back down as I trembled.

“You're joking.” I said, my voice slightly higher than earlier.

“I don't joke, kitten.” He said, reaching for my hair again and twirling them between his fingers. “Your father owes me a huge deal and I doubt your menial labor can pay for that much. So why don't you marry me and work here at Golden Fang to pay back? I'll reward you generously.”

So he was trying to say his way of tying me down and making me loyal to him was to trap me in a marriage? He wasn't even hiding his intentions one bit. I swallowed hard, staring into his eyes again. “I-is this how you get married to everyone w-who owes you?” I stuttered, but I didn't care, trying to keep my tongue steady just as much as my body, as I could feel even my eyes tremble. If that was possible.

“Of course not. You're the first of them to come in contact with me. Aren't you lucky, Kitten?” He chuckled again, removing a cigarette and lighter from his pocket. As he did this, his gaze didn't leave me even for a fraction of seconds.

“Y-you don't even know me.” I took a shaky step back, but I knew I couldn't run anywhere. I had nowhere to run. I had a feeling that he would find me no matter where I went and he seemed to he aware of that himself and found pleasure in the fact.

“I don't need to know you.” He replied, taking in a smoke before letting it out on my face. It made me cover my nose while staring at him. “I need someone to take care of a certain… problem for me. You, little Omega, happen to be a perfect solution.”

I swallowed hard. “If this is about the money, I-I can find another way to pay my father's debt.”

His eyes darkened. “No, you can't.”

The way he said it, so absolute, so certain, made my stomach twist.

I gritted my teeth. “You don't know what I am capable of. I work three jobs–”

“Three jobs that can barely cover your father's hospital bills, let alone a million dollars.” He tilted his head slightly. “Tell me, how long do you think it would take to gather that much? Ten years? Twenty? I don't have the time in the world, Evangeline.”

My chest tightened.

He wasn't wrong.

I had spent so long fighting to keep my father alive, I was barely able to gather each payments before due dates to avoid him being kicked out. Now a millionaire dollars wasn't just impossible– it's just beyond comprehension.

Dominic took a few steps forward, closing the small distance between us. “I'll make you a deal, Evangeline.” He reached out, his fingers brushing against my chin, tilting my head up slightly. His touch sent a foreign feeling through me and I didn't want to know what it was.

I should have turned away immediately I knew it was him. I shook have ran.

“You work for me, play the marriage role and I promise to pay you well. You'll be with me for just two years. Your father would even have the best medical attendants with the amount you'll get from me,” he said smoothly. “In exchange, just he mine till then. We'll draw up a contract if you do not trust me enough. But I am a man of my word.”

I couldn't breathe. This was all too much to comprehend all at once. A marriage. A marriage if benefits. I don't even know what the problem he needed me for was.

His offer was inviting. It was just like the devil whispering to me with an attractive offer, knowing what I lack the most and desired the most. But at what cost? Someone like me, working in Golden Fang? What could I even offer? As an omega, I know well how we're treated and it'll be much worse in a club.

He must have seen the hesitation in my eyes before he chuckled, the sound low and tempting. “You're thinking about it, aren't you, kitten?”

I snapped back to reality, yanking my chin from his grip as I took u steady steps backwards again. “No. Absolutely not. Why would I take your absurd offer?”

Dominic's didn't look a least bit discouraged. He looked even more confident. “You will.”

I glared at him, clutching my bag tighter. “I'll look for another way. A better paying job that those I have.”

He sighed as if I were being too difficult but his expression said otherwise. “You're stubborn. It makes you even more amusing.” His eyes turned cold in an instant after saying those words. Dipping his free hand in his pocket, he tucked a black card with golden designs in the pocket of my dress.

“You know where to find me when you change your mind.” Before I could react, he turned to look at the car behind us. “Damon.”

From the shadows, a man stepped forward. I haven't noticed him standing there, watching silently. He was neatly dressed in an all black suit. His expression unreadable. “Yes, Alpha Dominic?”

“Anyone who heard this conversation.” He ordered commanded, his t.voyce eerily calm. “Get rid of them.”

I stepped back instinctively, clutching my bag even tighter. Get rid of them? What sort of monster is this guy?

“You really are insane.” The words slipped out of my mouth before I could control it. A smile appeared on his face as he heard me.

“You keep saying that but you aren't leaving, are you?”

I turned on my heel, shoving past him as I stormed away. My entire body was trembling, my heart pounding so much, it hurts.

I barely made it to the street when I heard hi

s voice call after me, calm and confident.

“You'll come back to me, kitten.”
