Chapter Six

Eva's POV

The last thing I was expecting when he said we were going on a date was for him to bring me to a luxury boutique. I've always seen the images on TV but never in my life had I ever thought I would be in there right now trying on clothes. And it wasn't just any boutique, it was the top in the entire city.

These clothes cost my entire life.

My hands trembled as I looked at the tags on the clothes I was trying on. They looked so pretty and luxurious I didn't know if I deserved them. Would it make me look like a gold digger?

“Don't you like them?” I heard Dominic's voice close to my ear. He had his chin settling on my shoulder while looking at my reflection in the mirror. His ember eyes seemed like they were piercing into me, the scent of his pheromones flowed to me. Just like the sweet rainy scent mixed with the scent of his woody cologne.

He was the very first alpha that didn't have a foul scent to me when releasing their pheromones. I didn't know if he was doing them intentionally or it just added to his aura naturally.

“T-they’re too expensive. I would be uncomfortable in these. I'd feel like I'm asking a lot from you. I could just get some thrifted wears. I'm pretty sure I'd get something better.” I said, turning to look at him with a desperate look.

I wouldn't forgive myself if I was buying thousands of dollars' worth of clothes while my father was still in the hospital, fighting for his life. I thought he was going to agree with the relaxed look on his face but it soon turned into a slight smile. A knowing smile.

“You're worried? Come on, kitten. I promised you the best. You're my wife afterall. If you're worried about your father, arrangements have been made to transfer him to Crescent Hospital, my cousin will be in charge of him so he'll be good.” He replied calmly as if reading my thoughts.

“I know you love them. Just take them. They look so sexy on you.” He whispered. “I'd buy the entire brand for you if you want.”

“No, thanks. I'll just take the dress.” I laughed nervously. If he was crazy enough to order people dead, why won't he be crazy enough to buy an entire brand. And for him to send my father to Crescent Hospital, worth millions like it was nothing, it shows how extremely rich alphas were.

After what felt like hours, I was seated in his car, heading back to the club. My comfy dress was gone and now I was dressed in a high neck bralette with a fishnet leading up to the high neck, exposing my chest. Along with it was a tennis skirt with shorts underneath.

If this was how dressing boldly was supposed to be, I didn't like it. But they cost thousands of dollars, I couldn't just throw them out. He didn't even give me another chance to process when I saw the total price. He just handed him his black card like it was nothing to him.

Dominic hadn't said anything since we got into the car, his finger just tapping the steering wheel before he finally turned his sharp gaze on me.

“This is your world now, Evangeline.” His voice was calm but I could tell whatever he was saying, he had been thinking about it for a while. “You're not just my wife. You're my asset. You'll oversee the financial structure of everything run. That includes the club.”

My hands curled into my lap, trying my best to hide my nervousness. Of course he knew what I was being pulled into. “I don't know anything about handling–”

He cut me off with a slight tilt of his head. “Of course, you do. You were top of your class in finances. Not only that but every other thing. Records never lie, and I make it a habit of knowing everything about the people ininvest in.”

I swallowed hard. I knew he'd dig into my past and there's no use hiding it.

He continued, his voice softer than it was before with his ember eyes fixed on the road ahead. “You'll be the one in charge of tracking the money flow. The books you show the world, and the ones you show me. You'll manage the front business, clean the money that passes through it, and ensure that no one– not the police, not my enemies– can trace anything back to me.”

I clenched my jaw. “And if I fail?”

The car came to a halt and I finally realized we were back. His eyes darkned as he turned to look at me. “You won't.”

My stomach twisted. I didn't have the choice to fial. I had over a million dollars in interest before paying the main amount my father owes. I wasn't told directly because they knew I didn't have a choice but now that I've found out, I felt my chain of restraints even stronger than before.

I forced myself to let out a heavy breath. “You don't really leave people with choices, do you?”

A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips at my words. “You're smart enough to know the answer to that, Evangeline.”

The car door unlocked with a soft click, signalling the conversation was over. He had given me my responsibility and I had to pay it diligently if I want to finish off the interest in a year and spend the second year of our contract paying everything else up.

Dominic was the first to get out of the car, walking around the car with his usual authority. He opened the door for me. I didn't know it was out of courtesy or he wanted me out. Now.

Stepping out means my old life had completely vani

shed.

Now I'm in the den of criminals.
