Life is a tough movie
Hillary's POV
“Why, Hillary?”
He asked confused. I was scared of Victoria. I took a deep breath.
“ It's just that I don't want any trouble.”
“What did you mean by that?” He was impatient.
“ I don't want any trouble with your girlfriend, Victoria. I sighed. “You know how she is.”
He clicks his tongue. “So? Look there's nothing to be scared of okay? You're going to do your own job.”
“But..”
“Victoria isn't my girlfriend.”
“What?” My eyes widened. He better be joking.
“Victoria isn't my hair.” He repeated. “She's never been.”
My head was spinning and I still don't want to believe him. “But why? I mean how? You go to her house and she's always on you and….”
“It's a long story. We're not dating. She assumes we are and forces herself on me. Can we not talk about this please.? Back to you.”
I was quiet wondering what to say next. I would definitely have to think about the whole thing. I won't rush it.
“I'm sorry but just give me some time please.”
“Hillary.” He groaned annoyingly and I decided to walk away running. He didn't stop me this time and I passed through stairs down running back.
I was finally out of that building. I thought Travis would run after me but I didn't see him. Well that was good anyways. I was finally out of the club building and had to take a trek. I was tired, hungry, exhausted. My feets hurts so bad. I had to wait till I saw a bus and I hopped in.
I kept on thinking of the whole things that happened till I got to my destination. The house I had to stay while working as a maid. The moment I wanted to open the gate. The lady stepped out.
“Where are you coming from?” She inquired.
“Oh. Good evening ma'am. Remember I told you that I had to go somewhere earlier.”
“Your job starts already so please go in and do what you're here for.”
“Okay ma'am.” I respectfully responded going in.
All my work varied from cleaning to cooking. She had two kids and I had to take care of them too. Laundry, tidying and assisting the kids was the main priority.
I freshened up at first and had to assist her daughters with their homework. Wasn't my job but I did so. The only thing that kept on replaying in my head was Travis's words.
‘I want you to work with me.’
Oooh. Tough one. I needed to think extra well about it. If I decided to work with him, how do I balance this particular present one alongside? Would Miss Veronica let me? I couldn't help but think about everything. Victoria included. Oh Jesus. This is really tough.
“Please we're hungry.” The kids complained. Okay hungry kids. Eat me.
I shook my head over the thoughts and replied.
“Um, have you had any meal today?”
They both nod their head. “But we haven't had dinner. Momma said we should have Rice and bacon.”
Gosh. They were so cute.
“Okay kiddo's. Just watch your cartoons and I'll make some.” I smiled and they obeyed. Everything I needed was provided in the kitchen which made things easier for me. I hummed while I chopped vegetables and onions. This feeling was nostalgic which made me remember what I needed to talk about. I dialled her number and she picked the first ring.
“Heyyy Hillary.!”
Her sweet voice came in. Gosh I missed this girl.
“Hey Bridget.” I laughed.
“OMG I couldn't call you. How are you? How's things over there?”
“It's understandable. Well, I'm good. I'm doing pretty well.” I sighed.
“Really? And your Dad?”
I paused at the mention of my Dad and heard some noise from the foyer. I turned while holding the phone, making my way out of the kitchen to check it out but I stopped when I realized I had to rinse the shredded vegetables.
“Well, he's good though.” I rolled my eyes. “I'm just working right now. I have free accommodation where I work for a sweet lady.”
“Ohh, sounds good.”
We talked for some time before I finally hung up and after some minutes, I was done cooking. I served and walked out of the kitchen placing the meal on the dining table. The kids ran towards the table and started digging in. That was when Mrs Veronica stepped in–with her husband? Maybe. He was on a cap. I guess she headed out when I arrived.
“My Babies.” She squealed and they giggled. “Ooh, dinner smells delicious.”
I smiled just staring at the trio and remembered I left my phone in the kitchen.
It was on the counter. I grabbed it and before I turned my back, a hand pressed me down from behind covering my mouth with force. I tried to scream but my voice came out muffled.
“Hush, Hillary. You can't let them know that I'm your father.”
That voice. I knew it. It really was familiar. The person released his hands and I turned only to see my Father. The gasp I let out was enough to put me in hypertension. My eyes couldn't believe it and I covered my mouth. Tears pricked at my eyes. I couldn't utter a word.
“Don't say a word.” He warned. Your boss is my girlfriend.” He shrugged as if unbothered.
I was shaking as if I'd seen a ghost. “D..ad, how did…..y…ou…man…age to…. leave…jail.” I was scared as fuck.
“Leave?” He clicks. “I escaped since you abandoned me.” He accuses me. “ And my girlfriend, Veronica, let me stay here with her kids. Lovely right?”
“What are you anyways?” I cried out. He's definitely manipulating this woman. How did she even become close to this man?
“You're not going to say anything to her right?” He stepped closer and whispered. “ You don't know what I'm capable of Hillary. If you say anything, I can go as far as kidnapping her kids because we have to play cool like we don't know each other. It's a good thing I saw you since I entered. I had to act quick before you realized I was the one.”
“ Dad, please stop.” I was trembling.
“ Remember, we don't know each other.” He pressed my neck giving me a hard cold glare.
“Since when? I'm confused Dad. How did you know her? How and why of all people did you choose a woman with kids? What is wrong with you? Why are you doing this?”
“Richard! Where are you?!”
We both freezed when we heard her voice.
“I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it on you if you don't obey my instructions.”
That was the last thing he said before he disappeared off through the other door.
“Hillary, have you…”
Mrs Veronica stopped when she saw me crying. “Oh my what is wrong.”
Do something Hillary.
“Ohh!” I laughed out loud. “ Onions!” I exclaimed. “ My eyes react strongly to them, it's almost as if I'm crying.” I lied and she fell for it.
“Okay. Please come join us and have dinner.”
“What!?”
I'm afraid I yelled too much.
“Um, I meant what? Really?.” I said softly.
“Yes please. The kids like you. Please, I insist.” She pulled my hands and dragged me to the table. No. Dad was there. I was left with no choice but to sit. This was living hell for me. I can't take it anymore.
“Well, this is my new maid. Hillary.” Mrs Veronica introduces me to her boyfriend. My own Father.
“Hillary. This is my husband.”
I almost choked.
“Nice to meet you, Hillary. I'm Richard. It's good to see you taking care of our kids so much.”
