Diana’s POV
I watched Alpha Damon slowly as he took his seat at the head of the table while sipping my drink quietly.
“Where were you last night?” I asked him calmly. He raised an eyebrow at me then he picked up his fork.
“I was in the west.” lies! I wanted to scream in his face that I knew that he had spent the day between another woman’s lap on the same bed he had promised me forever.
“Why do you ask?” I had so many words to say to him in response but instead, I smiled and shook my head.
“No reason, Alpha. I just wanted to know. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.” I took another sip of my drink.
He stared at me and opened his mouth to say something but the buzzing of his phone drew his attention. He glanced at his phone, and without looking at me, he pushed the chair backward and stood up with the ringing phone in his hands.
“I need to take this,” he said, already walking toward the hallway.
I was seething with anger but I decided not to move or show it. He was lying to my face and was probably going to talk to his mistress over the phone. I closed my eyes and heightened my hearing.
A second later, his voice came through clearly.
“Celeste,” he said, his tone soft in a way that made my chest tighten. He’d never called my name with that much emotion before.
Celeste.
The name alone made me grip her fork tighter.
“I have a surprise for you tonight,” Alpha Damon continued, his voice dripping with warmth and excitement. “Something special. You’re going to love it.”
I swallowed the lump forming in my throat.
A surprise? For Celeste?
My fingers trembled slightly as I placed my fork down. I exhaled slowly and tried to keep my expression neutral, even though my heart was pounding in my chest.
“Yeah, I’ll see you soon,” Alpha Damon finished before hanging up.
A few seconds later, he walked back into the dining room as if nothing had happened.
I looked up, meeting his gaze. There was no hint of guilt in his eyes, no hesitation in his movements. Like he hadn’t just made plans with another woman.
I forced a smile, pushing my emotions deep down where they couldn’t surface.
Alpha Damon sat down and continued eating, completely unaware that I had heard every word.
I picked up her glass, taking a slow sip of water.
My mind, however, was already racing.
Tonight, I would find out exactly what that surprise was that he had installed for his mistress, Celeste.
Alpha Damon rose from his seat, adjusting his jacket. “I have somewhere to be,” he said, his voice brisk. He didn’t elaborate as he used to. He is probably off to arrange the surprise he had created for her. The thought gnawed at my chest.
I tilted her head, watching him. “Will you be back early?” I asked my tone light, almost teasing. “I want to prepare something special for you tonight.”
His jaw tightened for just a second before he forced a small smile. “I’ll be busy tonight.” he just confirmed my thoughts. He was going to be with HER.
My heart clenched at his words, but I didn’t let it show. Instead, I smiled back. “Of course,” I said softly, keeping my expression neutral as I watched him walk away.
The moment he was gone, I noticed how the maids had begun walking on eggshells around me which was something new. They avoided eye contact, scurrying about like nervous mice. They knew something. Something I didn't do.
I took a deep breath and made my way to my room. I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the floor, my mind racing with everything that had been happening. The way the maids looked at me, the unease in Alpha Damon’s voice… something was wrong. Something bigger than his mistress was going on.
A knock on my door pulled me out of my thoughts.
“Beta Diana,” a sentinel said from the other side, “there will be a meeting in an hour.”
I closed my eyes for a moment before responding. “I’m not feeling well,” I lied, my voice even.
I wasn’t sick. Not physically. But I had no intention of involving myself in Alpha Damon’s affairs anymore.
The sentinel hesitated before answering, “Understood, Beta.”
I listened to his footsteps retreating before lying back on the bed. I was done playing the fool.
---
As the evening settled in, I sat in front of her mirror, brushing my long hair. My phone vibrated on the table. I reached for it, my eyes narrowing at the message from my spy.
He just arrived at The Silver Moon Hotel. He’s not alone.
My grip on my phone tightened.
I stood up, my movements swift and precise. It was time to see what Alpha Damon was hiding.
The Silver Moon Hotel stood tall and luxurious, its entrance glowing under the streetlights. As I parked her car, I noticed several expensive vehicles lined up in the lot.
My heart pounded.
The elders are here.
A deep frown formed on my face. Were they having a secret meeting without me?
My hands curled into fists.
I walked toward the front entrance, but before I could step inside, two bouncers—humans—blocked my path.
“You can’t go in,” one of them said, his voice firm.
I narrowed her eyes. “Move.”
“No can do, lady,” the other one said. “Private event.”
I exhaled sharply, impatience flaring in my veins. “I need to go in right now.”
“I said no.”
A slow, dangerous smile spread across my lips.
The next moment, I struck before they could realize it.
One punch to the throat. A sharp twist of the wrist. In seconds, both men were on the ground, unconscious. Slow humans.
I dusted off my hands. “Idiots.”
With a deep breath, I stepped inside.
The lavish decorations and soft glow of chandeliers filled the grand hall. The sound of cool music drifted from a room ahead. A celebration?
My pulse quickened.
As I moved forward, three men blocked my path again.
I didn’t waste time this time.
With swift, deadly precision, I took them down—three clean kills.
Their bodies hit the floor, and I didn’t spare them a glance.
Then I heard it.
The applause. The cheers.
I pushed open the grand double doors… and froze.
Alpha Damon was kneeling.
Proposing.
My breath caught in my throat.
There, under the soft glow of golden lights, surrounded by smiling elders and high-ranking wolves, Alpha Damon held a velvet box open, sliding a ring onto Celeste Whitmore’s finger.
Celeste.
A normal werewolf. No title. Just a woman with a wealthy family.
My body went numb.
I gasped, the sound louder than I intended.
The room fell silent. The music stopped.
But Alpha Damon? He didn’t flinch. He didn’t even look surprised.
Instead, he continued what he started, slipping the ring onto Celeste’s delicate finger.
Then he leaned in and kissed her.
The applause resumed.
The elders cheered.
The rest of the crowd cheered on but I stood there, frozen, as tears ran silently down my cheeks.
