Chapter Six
The next day as promised Tristan picked me up at 8 pm sharp from the library and we were on our way to his house. I couldn't help but steal glances at him from the corner of my eyes. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt under his black jacket followed by his black jeans which were sexy as hell. I noticed his chiseled jawline which had a hint of stubble that made me lick my lips automatically.
Ugh! Why can't he be ugly like his personality?
I remained silent through the ride and he kept his focus solely on the road ahead of us. He pulled over inside a driveway and I looked outside the window and saw a huge classy-looking mansion.
What else did I expect?
"We are here." He unbuckled his seat belt and we both walked towards the front door. We were immediately greeted by a short elderly lady who had a warm smile on her face inside the living room.
"Good evening, Tristan. Can I get you and your friend anything to drink or eat?" she asked politely and I immediately understood that she was the caretaker of the house.
"I'm fine, thank you." I smiled back at her softly.
"How is she doing?" Tristan asked beside me and I had no idea who he was talking about.
"She just had her dinner and is fast asleep."
"Thank you, Mrs. Waters. You can heat the dinner and leave it outside before you leave for the day. We will be upstairs studying. " He finished and looked at me. I nodded in agreement, pulling down my hoodie, feeling underdressed in his huge-ass house. It was like a freaking five-star hotel and I could see rooms and windows all around the place and a giant staircase that led upstairs to his room probably. I couldn't see his parent's insight and my curiosity was at its peak.
"Shall we?" he asked, breaking my chain of thoughts.
"Huh? Yeah, lead the way." I mumbled silently and followed him behind.
"Where are your parents?" I asked out of curiosity but heard no response.
"My dad travels a lot and visits us only during weekends." He explained as we reached his room.
"Us? You and your mom?" I blurted out and bumped into his back as he stopped walking.
"You know what they say?" he asked turning around and bent down so that we were face to face. Our noses were almost touching and I realized how short I was compared to him. I swallowed hard as I caught a whiff of his musky cologne.
Sweet Jesus!
"Wh--What?" I asked in almost a stutter and flicked my gaze to meet his beautiful eyes.
"Curiosity killed the cat." He smirked and walked inside his room, leaving me behind all hot and bothered. I blinked rapidly, taking a few deep breaths to calm my poor heart that was beating wildly against my chest.
"Well, if you are that interested in me, I meant my little sister, Susan." He added after a few minutes. Well, that was a new piece of information. I didn't know he had any siblings. I kept standing awkwardly inside his room as my eyes scanned across the entire space which screamed football and rock music from all four corners. I could see posters of different football players and old music records stacked on a shelf at the corner of the room. A giant master bed dominated the room in the middle and there was a study table parallel to the bed with two chairs.
"Eww! Interested, my ass. I'm just being aware of my surroundings because I don't trust you in this huge house, Asshole." I grumbled, tucking my hair behind my ears, and placed my backpack on his study table.
"You continue to amaze me, Adams. Please be comfortable. I'll be right back." He laughed and disappeared inside a room which I believed was the bathroom. I sat down in front of his study table and took out my notes and textbooks, trying to focus on my job at hand. I pulled my hair back into a high ponytail and started going through my notes to prep myself a bit.
"Alright, I'm ready." I heard him behind me. He pulled a chair next to me and I moved away a little bit as his musky scent was doing crazy things to my insides.
"So, what topic do you want me to start with? Calculus and Trigonometry are complicated compared to other topics so we can start with the easy ones and try to cover one topic each day." I explained, flipping through the pages, and felt his eyes on me.
"What?" I asked and he immediately coughed but nodded in understanding.
"Sure, let's start with algebra, and here are my test sheets." He went through his bag and handed me over a few of his test papers.
"Wow, you are hopeless," I smirked, going through his sheets, trying to figure out how bad he was at math.
"I know. I really need to get at least a C minus in all my tests," he mumbled, running a hand through his hair and I cleared my throat.
"Got it."
I started to teach him the basics of algebra and he patiently listened to me without any rude comments or teasing. Maybe he was really serious about this stuff. He even starting taking notes and asked me few doubts now and then.
Damn! Who was this guy sitting next to me?
This was like a whole new side of Tristan that I was secretly enjoying. Crap! No, not enjoying.
It was okay I guess.
"Alright, I get it now. So we just substitute the variables in the equation and try to get the value of the unknowns. Cool." He whistled and leaned back against his chair.
"Yeah, it's really that simple." I sighed, putting down my pencil, and noticed that it was 8.50 pm already. We had agreed to have a one-hour session every day and it was coming to an end. I actually had fun teaching him as he wasn't distracting me much.
Except for his body though, my inner self smirked.
"Let's call it a day. Do you want anything to drink?" he asked, standing up from his seat.
"Water is fine," I gave him a small smile and he walked outside his room. I stood up from my seat and let out a huge breath and started to pack my things.
I noticed some of his photos on the wall behind me. There were pictures of him with a cute little girl which I believe was his sister, Susan. She must be around six. I couldn't see his mom in any of the pictures. Dang! He was really cute as a kid and my lips lifted into a small smile automatically as I came across a picture of him dressed up as spiderman.
"What did I say about curiosity killing the cat?" I heard his deep husky voice from behind, causing me to turn around swiftly and he was standing so close to me that I accidentally knocked the glass of water from his hands, spilling it all over my hoodie.
Fuck!
"Shit, I'm so sorry." I had no idea why I was apologizing and tried to get the water from my hoodie as the water started to seep through my t-shirt underneath the hoodie.
"Clumsy as always, Adams. Let me get you a towel." He muttered and returned with a hand towel.
"Stay put. I'll get you another glass of water." He rushed outside immediately and I squeezed my eyes shut in embarrassment. I removed my hoodie and tried to wipe the water from my now wet t-shirt that was sticking to my chest. I was too busy trying to dry my clothes with the towel that I didn't notice him standing in front of me until he cleared his throat.
"Oh my God! Privacy much!" I immediately snatched my hoodie to hide my chest and he rolled his eyes placing the glass of water on the study table.
"Please, I've seen far better." He scoffed and walked outside, giving me the privacy that I asked and for some reason, his words hit me hard and my eyes started to blur with unshed tears.
What did I expect?
Yeah, he called me cute, that doesn't mean he finds me attractive. I mean, not that I wanted him to. Ugh! He was still an arrogant asshole and I hated him.
I knew I wasn't like other girls. I wasn't skinny or perfect. I was averagely built, a little bit on the curvy side and I've never been insecure about my body at all yet I had no idea why his words affected me so much. I wiped away my tears angrily and wore my hoodie. After collecting my bag, I walked outside and saw him busy on his phone.
"I'm ready to leave," I stated with no emotion in my voice and fixed my gaze, down to the floor.
"I can give you one of my shirts if it's still wet," he spoke, lifting his gaze from his phone and looked down at my hoodie.
"I'm fine. It's getting late."
"Okay, wait downstairs. I'll be right back." He sighed and went inside his room while I made my way towards the living room.
Soon, we were on the road and the entire car ride was once again filled with complete silence.
"Have you taken down the ad from the school newspaper?" he asked after a while and I turned to my side to peer at him.
"Why?"
"Well, you are tutoring me now. How many people are you planning to teach?" he asked in an agitated tone and I raised my eyebrows.
"What was that? Right, Curiosity killed the cat, Tristan and we are still doing this on a trial basis. This isn't permanent until I know for sure that I can trust you." I explained and noticed his knuckles turning white as he gripped the steering wheel tighter than usual, making me frown at his behavior.
What was wrong with him?
"I gave you my word that I wouldn't trouble you and I tend to stick to my word, Adams." He hissed in anger.
"That's doesn't mean I can trust you and forget about all the times that you have been mean to me. You are doing this only for your grades and I'm doing this for money. We have our own selfish reasons." I stated and both of us went silent. I could see his jaw muscles clenching in anger from the corner of my eyes but I paid him no mind.
Jerk.
Once my house came into view, I started unbuckling my seatbelt and threw my backpack on my shoulders, ready to jump out of his fucking car once he stops.
"Get out." He muttered under his breath and he didn't need to tell me twice. I slammed his car door shut with such force, enough for him to know that I was pissed too, and walked towards my house without looking back. After a few minutes, a weird thought struck my mind.
How did hell did he know where I lived?
