Chapter 3: He Is Dangerously Gorgeous
Sophie
“Mother, will you help me to take the food aside?”
Today was a very special day for us, but to me, it was beyond everything. I felt a huge smile appear on my lips as I watched the whole scenery, it was turning out the same exact way I imagined it to be, a huge accomplishment. Since my father was a part of the organization that the local orphanage was holding, he decided that he wanted to do something for them and I thought it would be nice if we organized a buffet in our backyard for these little children. My father didn't agree at first but mother convinced him, so right now, I was preparing for the little children to arrive.
As mother and I walked out to the backyard with the drinks, a huge smile spread across my lips when I saw all the children at the gates. I set the drinks down and reached the gate within a few seconds to allow them in.
“Hello, children.” I said as all of them surrounded me, some of them beamed a smile at me as they reached me and the others embraced me at the waist.
I felt elated that most of these children remembered me from last week. I visited the orphanage to play with them when my father went to make his donations.
“Hi, Sophie.” One of them replied.
“I miss you.”
It was somewhat different to communicate with these children, because of language. Some of them don't speak English, as they never left the state before. In Kano, they don't speak English, they speak Hausa. I didn't grow up here, so I didn't know how to speak the language and I was surprised at the amount of the children that were able to speak English. Considering the fact that these children were under ten years old, in fact, the whole orphanage was able to understand me and speak to me in English. I learned that English was included in their education which was an excellent thing to do.
“I have a huge surprise for you, children. Would you like to see what I have done?” I asked, there were about twenty-five of the people surrounding me.
“Yes!”
“Then, come along with me.”
As I made my way to the backyard, all the children behind me gasped in surprise. My eyes widened at all of their reactions because it was too sweet. As soon as I instructed each of them to stand in line in front of the buffet table, they all complied. It was as if they had never seen something like this before and it really did break my heart. The table was designed in a way where it would captivate these children's attention. There was miniature furniture scattered everywhere in the backyard so all the children could sit on them when they were eating.
All of them were busy eating when one sauntered towards me, abandoning his seat. A small frown settled on my lips when I saw him wipe his mouth with the back of his hand as a small frown settled on his face.
“What is the matter, Toni?” I crouched down and held his tiny hands in mine.
“Sophie, I want ice cream.” He requested and in that instance, a small smile ran past my lips.
“Have you finished your food?”
“Yes, I have. Pleaseeee.” He pleaded and I giggled as I took his hand and nodded my head.
“Thank you, I love you.” He squealed, he was elated as a huge smile spread across his face.
It was as if I had given these children a lifetime of happiness and it really did break my heart, all their smiles were filled with spirit as they appreciated everything in front of them. None of them deserved this, they deserve endless amounts of happiness.
“Mother, look at these children.” I said as Toni was jumping with so much exhilaration.
“They looked so happy.” I added.
“They do indeed.” My heart halted for a second as the deep unfamiliar voice filled my ears.
I was confused at first because I thought my mother was behind me the second I felt a presence but when I turned around, I was left speechless. Behind me stood a man that I have never seen around the estate. I scrutinized him for a second as my brows snapped into a furrow because for as long as I remember, my father's security was secure so where did this man gain access to the mansion? I glanced up at him and noticed his distinctive features, they were so captivating. His eyes grazed right back at me and for some reason, I felt as though he was going to compel me with those. His long snatched nose sat right above his full pink lip, the kind of lips that were ready to destroy you. His hair was combed back and what he was wearing made me wonder who he really was. Everything about this man was intriguing and my whole body reacted to his presence. I have seen him before but I couldn't recall.
“Oh, hello?” I faltered as I turned around and felt Toni cowering behind me, his hand clutch onto mine as he began to hide.
“Hi,” he muttered and my heart skipped a beat when he spoke again.
I was really trying to figure out where I had seen this dangerously gorgeous looking man before but I couldn't concentrate when he was right in front of me. Something about him really did make me feel some try of way, as the hot sun beamed directly on his face, he squinted a little and his lips were tugged. I couldn't figure out if he was smiling or smirking at me.
“Toni, dear would you like to wait for your friends to finish before we go for the cream? You can play with your toys for the meantime.” A huge smile flashes on the little boy's face and he nodded.
“Okay Sophie.” He ran off.
I watched him run away to the play area before I turned my gaze back to the man who stood behind me and for some reason, I was startled once again because I thought he would have left by now.
“I think it is generous of you to do this for those children.” He complimented and my heart palpitated. His voice was so beautiful and laced with an accent. This man is definitely my tribe and it showed my weakness.
“Thank you,” I blush.
“I am sorry but I can't recognise you.. who are you?” He sighed before a small smile tugged his lips. He shook his head and a small chuckle was released before he gazed back at me.
“I am Romano, we met at your birthday party a few weeks ago.”
In that instance, my eyebrows shot up and a smile spread across my face. I remembered this man clearly because of what he said and my smile soon turned into a small frown.
“Oh, yes, I remembered you. You are the one that called my party boring.” I said and his face became flustered.
“It is because it was boring.” He blurted and I couldn't help but giggle at his sharp tongue. But it sends sparks down my spine and settles at my core.
“I am sorry.”
“It is alright, you were right. I even hated my own party which put the two of us in the same boat.” I said and began to walk towards the buffet table to clean it up. When I glanced over my shoulder, I found him following me with both his hands in his pocket.
“So, Roman. What brings you here?”
