Chapter 4: Meet My Mother

Chapter 4: Meet My Mother

Sophie

“So Romano,  what brings you here?” I asked as I grabbed the bag and cleaned the table with the rubbish and every now and then.

I would give a side-ways glance to see if he was still there, surprisingly enough he was. He was wearing a white shirt with a pair of blue slacks that made him look so handsome and my heart did not stop racing.

“My family owns the orphanage that your father donated to.” He replied and my jaw dropped to the floor as well as the bin bag.

I turned my perplexed gaze to him and felt myself gulp heavily.

“You are from the Velkov family?” I asked.

“Yes, I thought you remembered me, kitten?”

I felt a solid amount of butterflies in my stomach the second he called me that. I didn't know what it was, the fact that he was a Velkov or the fact that he called me something no one has ever done. He called me his kitten, and then smirked. Something about him was so mischievous, I knew that he was going to be a tease and I also knew at this point that my cheeks were red. My face was probably flushed before I pushed my hair at the back of my ears and looked away timidly. It was so crazy how in one minute he would make me feel so confident and then the next, he would make me feel so shy. It hasn't been an hour and I was already messing up.

“That is my father and my mother over there.” He pointed at the distance.

I glanced over my shoulder to find my father speaking to two people and instantly, I was shocked. I was shocked that someone like him was even speaking to me. The Velkov family were a very well-known family in Dubai but they are popular in the city of Ajman. Their family name was more known for being benefactors at events and organizations. people would kill just to talk to them or work with anyone with the last name. The fact that my father was working with them was shocking enough but a Velkov speaking to me was unbelievable. I knew them but never really knew what they looked like, I just knew their name because it was a name that every tongue in the city would take with respect. And rumors have it that they were notorious in the mafia side of the world but there was no confirmation.

I glanced up at him and imagined him killing like what a mafia person would do and I couldn't think about it. It was impossible to even think that a gorgeous man like him would cause any harm to an insect because he looked so innocent.

“Oh, I had no idea.” I falter.

“Well, now you do. I want to thank you for organizing this for the children from my family's orphanage. I really appreciate it, Sophie.”

I nodded my head and gave him a small smile before I returned back to the table and tried to compose myself. I felt my hands trembling, not out of fear but out of feelings so overwhelmed that this man was here to personally thank me.

“I would like to meet my mother.” He muttered and my heart halted for a second.

I froze against the table as I thought that I was probably hearing things but when I glanced over my shoulder again, I found him still standing behind me. My eyes widened for a second at his words, I looked over to my father and this time, my mother had joined in their conversation.

“Yes, sure.”

A beautiful smile spread across his lips, a smile that I could never forget.

Romano pov

“This is ridiculous!” My body trembled with anger as I raged at the man in front of me, which was why I avoided him at all cost.

I felt the tips of my fingers burning as I cleaned my fists, waiting to hear an explanation from him because he was indeed being absolutely ridiculous.

“I am not being ridiculous, I am wise. I am not having you retaliate just like that, you are young and inexperienced. You still have training to do, son.” My father said.

“I have been training since I was fifteen, it is enough.”

“Son, trust me, it is not enough. Ten years worth of training is enough to get physical, you have yet to become wise about this.” He replied as he tried to convince me.

“Come along with me to the meeting I have with one of the partners, you can learn from me.”

As my anger summers down, I nodded my head at him in silence. It was true, as much as I didn't want to admit that years of training was not enough, I  was ready to get myself into a war. I was only twenty-five, preparing to live the life I was promised and I still need to build my way up to my mafia and carry my grandfather's name because I was his only grandson. It was a dream to do this but now, it has become a challenge. A challenge that I decided to make with my father. I was compelled, I needed to prove to him that I could do this.

After an hour of preparing for this meeting, my father and I finally left to reach the venue and when we arrived, I already knew who was on our side and who wasn't. It was something I inhabited when I was around my father, he taught me who was a rat by one stare.

“Since Ajman is one of the popular cities of the country, it could jeopardize your progress.” He muttered.

“What does that mean for me then?”

“It is wise to move away, son. It is the only way.” My brows snapped into a furrow as I glared at him in disbelief.

Ajman is my home, it is where I was born and raised, so how the fuck was I going to suddenly just abandoned everything just like that? Before I could protest, a couple of investors that he was dealing with entered the room in their expensive suits and the excessive amount of bullshit papers in their possession. They were prestigious but they had no idea who we were.

“Benjamin, it is a pleasure to finally be able to work with you.” One of them piped.

“Same here.” My father replied.

“Before we do, I would like you to meet my son, Romano Velkov?”

All of them turned their attention to me and nodded their heads before they looked away, as if I was a piece of shit that was released from under their shoes. I clenched my jaw and felt my inner beast growling at them, ready to pounce on them without their knowledge but suddenly, I felt my father hold me back.  I knew they were not really bothered about me because I was nothing to them. In their eyes, my father was just a generous benefactor and I was his rich, spoiled and obnoxious son. All they were here for is the money we were able to offer. What they didn't know is that we were the fucking mafia, the only people in the city that could end their businesses as well as their lives in just a fucking second.

Having this much privilege was powerful and I could only thank my grandfather but on the other hand, it was a fucking pain in the ass, I wasn't sure if it was a good or a bad thing. After some minutes passed of them trying to convince my father while I sat next to him, bored as fúck. I wanted to do something, have fun and fuck things up and ruin these men.

“I have a question for you, Mr. Brook.” I cleared my throat as I sat back up on the chair and finally made eye-contact with one of the bastards named Brook. He rolled his eyes at me before he watched me with a raised brow, as if he was doubting.

“I see, Romano and what may the question be?”

“If we allow your company to sell in our benefits gala, how much profit are we getting?”

“Well, why would we need the profits anyway? It is your product we are selling, we are not only earning a few more investors for you, we are just doing our job and earning our money. So, no you don't get anything.”

“That wasn't my question.  How much profit do we receive, Mr. Brook?”

He watched me in disbelief before he scoffed and glanced at my father who didn't say anything and I was glad that he did because it made me believe that he truly did believe in me.

“Benjamin, I suggest you check on your son, he is getting off the rails.” He chuckled.

“Pardon me?” I raised a brow.

“Me, off the rails? May I remind you who you are speaking to, Brook?”
