Chapter 4 The Incredible Time Travel

After sorting out her jumbled thoughts, Sophia got off the car in big strides.

Upon entering the bureau, she saw Captain Logan beckoning her over and saying, "Sophia, where’s that photo? I heard from the evidence room that you have it. Bring it over for everyone to have a look."

All eyes turned to her with curiosity, but Sophia remained silent. Instead, she put on a stern face and handed the license plate information she had received to Quinn, who was in charge of information search, "Quinn, help me find out who the owner of this car is."

Quinn was still sipping soy milk when she heard this and quickly put it down, asking, "What’s wrong with this car?"

Sophia’s expression darkened. Noticing that everyone’s attention was on her, she recounted the morning’s near-attack incident.

However, she made no mention of the car accident or her encounter with William.

Upon learning that she had been followed early in the morning and that the suspect might have been armed, Captain Logan immediately took it seriously.

After all, this was no small matter. As a criminal police officer, there was indeed a risk of being targeted by criminals, and one could not afford to be careless.

Captain Logan asked her, "Sophia, do you have any guesses?"

Sophia shook her head, "No, I’ve been a police officer for five years and haven’t offended anyone, let alone a gun-wielding criminal gang. I have no idea at all for now. We can only start with the investigation."

"Alright, I understand. Be careful these days and avoid acting alone. With so many of us in the team, we can surely find someone to protect you. How about this, let Samuel Pierce follow you. That way, I’ll be at ease." Captain Logan said, glancing at Samuel, whose face had turned serious upon hearing about the attack.

Suddenly being called out, Samuel was taken aback for a moment before quickly responding, "Sure!"

"Alright." Sophia had no objections.

Samuel walked over to her with a grin, patted his chest and said, "Sophia, don’t worry. I’ll definitely protect you!"

Sophia glanced at him and murmured, "If you can’t even beat me, how can you say that with a straight face?"

Samuel was embarrassed and had to find a way to save face, "I was just letting you win. You’re a girl. How could I use full force? Besides, I..." He couldn’t bring himself to say the words "I like you."

"Besides what?" Sophia raised an eyebrow. He just coughed dryly and whispered, "Nothing."

Sophia didn’t pay attention to his little thoughts anymore. Seeing that Logan and the others had focused on the matter of her being attacked, Sophia then mentioned the loss of the photo.

Sophia told a small lie, saying that the photo had not been properly stored and had accidentally flown out of the car window while she was driving, and she didn’t know where it had gone.

Logan was indeed not in the mood to care about this matter at the moment. He took the loss at face value and didn’t inquire further.

After some consideration, Captain Logan decided to hand over the case to her to take full charge, while having Samuel and Quinn assist her in the ongoing investigation.

On one hand, the case only required identifying the deceased’s identity and waiting for the family to claim the body. The workload was not heavy, which would prevent her from running around and getting into danger.

What Logan didn’t know was that this case not only required her to run around but also sent her back in time to conduct the investigation.

Sophia had been waiting for him to say this. She had a bunch of puzzles that needed to be solved.

Samuel came over and asked her, "Sophia, have you seen that photo? Can it prove the identity of the deceased?"

Hearing this, Sophia was taken aback for a moment. She had almost forgotten. But was that skeleton really William?

Sophia couldn’t be sure now. She didn’t answer but instead dragged a chair over and squeezed in next to Quinn, asking her to help look up someone named James.

Samuel stood behind her and curiously asked, "Who is this James Hayes?"

"An actor. The one in the photo." Sophia replied absentmindedly, staring at the screen.

"James Hayes?" Samuel scratched his chin, thought for a while, and still shook his head, "Never heard of him."

Sophia had thought that with the bureau’s information network, they could find some clues. However, after Quinn searched, she shook her head, indicating that she found nothing.

Sophia lightly tapped her fingers on the table, bit her lip in thought, and after a moment, wrote another name on the paper.

Quinn glanced at it, "William Mason? Who is this?"

"I want to know who he is. Just look him up first!" Sophia was eager. Quinn didn’t delay and typed William Mason into the computer.

A lot of information popped up. Sophia sifted through the irrelevant ones one by one. But after searching for a long time, she still found no information about William.

Sophia was not willing to give up. Just then, she accidentally saw a social media account called Raven Mason on the computer, which mentioned the name "William" in a short piece of text.

Sophia quickly asked Quinn to click and enter the homepage. Quinn operated it and found that the article was set to private.

Anyone else would not be able to view it, but for Quinn, it was just a matter of a few finger movements.

In no time, she hacked into the social media account, clicked on the article, and discovered that it was a character encyclopedia. The person introduced in the article was named William.

The moment the article was opened, a black-and-white portrait appeared on the screen.

Seeing that familiar face, Sophia was still taken aback for a moment even though she had been mentally prepared.

Sophia’s mind involuntarily replayed the scenes of him talking to her and him putting the watch on her wrist, holding her hand. Unlike what she had imagined, his hand was very warm and broad, lean yet strong, and very real...

Although it was a black-and-white photo, his appearance was so outstanding that his sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, pearly teeth, and delicate features were three-dimensional and deep. One could feel his elegant and refined aura through the screen.

He was wearing a high-quality tailored suit, sitting inside a car, with his deep eyes gazing outside, as if bidding farewell to a beloved one, his expression full of uncontrollable affection and tenderness.

"Wow! This handsome guy is something! It’s a pity he was born in the wrong era and couldn’t be seen with our own eyes." Quinn sighed in admiration.

Hearing this, Sophia came back to her senses and saw the birth date and past experiences annotated next to the photo.

William Mason, stage name James Hayes, a well-known actor.

Born on July 24, 1956, he went missing on May 4, 1988. After being missing for many years, he was declared dead, having lived only to the age of 32.

Seeing the date, Sophia was shocked at first glance. Born in 1956? Then which year did she meet him?

Sophia pressed her temples, closed her eyes and recalled what had happened before.

She clearly remembered that she had indeed had a car accident, and that photo had indeed landed in her hands and then disappeared.

When she opened her eyes again, she saw William.

Could it be that the photo had taken her back in time?

And when the camera captured the moment, she had come back? And the time had moved forward by about five minutes?

Sophia would never have thought of such a thing before, but now, it seemed to be the only explanation.

Quinn, who didn’t know what Sophia was thinking, carefully read the introduction of William’s life and was astonished after finishing it!

Quinn clicked her tongue in amazement, "Is such an amazing person really existent? Graduated from Harvard at 18 with a double master’s degree, proficient in seven or eight languages, and skilled in both piano and violin, winning awards in internationally renowned competitions for each. And in acting, the movies he starred in have won countless awards."

And it was not just that. The article also mentioned that he immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of six, grew up there, and his father was a very famous business tycoon with vast wealth. It could be said that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Unfortunately, his father passed away early, and William took over the family business, which was on the verge of bankruptcy, when he was not even twenty.

At that time, he managed to balance acting and running the company, and he actually got the company listed.

Although he grew up in the United States, his heart longed to return to the UK, and he eventually did go back to the UK.

William dedicated his whole life to charity. What people didn’t know was that almost all of his acting fees were donated to charity funds, leaving very little for himself.

After reading this, Quinn couldn’t help but doubt.

If such a person really existed decades ago, how could there be no information at all? And why had she never heard of such a figure in the history of cinema?

Especially when she searched for the movies he had starred in, either there were no scenes with him, or the movies simply did not exist.

This led Quinn to speculate, "Could this be made up? Maybe there’s no such person at all?"

"I think so too. It’s fake, right?" Samuel also examined it carefully. His first reaction was disbelief. How could there be such a perfect person in the world?

Sophia was also secretly astonished after reading it. So he was that amazing?
