Chapter 4

Lawrence spat out his words like he was tossing away a dirty rag, not even glancing at Emily before storming off.

His stiff posture screamed intense anger.

The ruckus startled everyone in the hallway outside.

They all stared at his furious face, too scared to even breathe.

Olivia peeked through the slowly closing ballroom doors and saw Emily, half-sprawled on the table with her clothes in disarray. She bit her lip hard.

The horrifying thought that "Lawrence slept with Emily" swirled in Olivia's mind. Without a second thought, she turned and ran after Lawrence.

Inside the ballroom, Emily struggled to get off the table.

Her waist ached from Lawrence's rough grip.

Staring at the closed door, Emily couldn't hold back and cursed loudly.

"Lawrence, you bastard!"

She had played the role of the perfect wife for three years, but now, the wild spirit she had once been in the countryside broke free.

She had married him to save the Wilson family by leveraging the Parker family's influence, but she had genuinely loved him too.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have endured such humiliation in the Parker family for those three years.

But now, with Olivia back in the country, he had rekindled their relationship and humiliated her in front of everyone.

Fine, if that's how it is, then no one gets to live peacefully!

Emily limped out of the hotel, standing at the entrance as the cold night wind blew, bringing tears to her eyes.

She pulled out her phone and called her uncle to come pick her up.

A black limited-edition Bentley arrived quickly, executing a perfect drift before stopping in front of Emily.

Daniel Wilson got out and opened the passenger door. "What's going on? Why are you here alone? Where's Lawrence?"

"Daniel..." Emily's eyes reddened as soon as she saw him, her pitiful expression making it clear to Daniel that Lawrence had bullied her again.

His anger flared instantly. "Tell me, what did Lawrence do this time? I'll make him pay!"

When Emily insisted on marrying Lawrence, the whole family had opposed it.

Lawrence had an engagement with Emily but was entangled with the Johnson family's illegitimate daughter.

Such a man, lacking integrity, was unworthy of Emily.

Though Daniel was technically a generation older, their ages were close, with Daniel only a few years older than Emily.

So, Emily had always liked to act spoiled around him.

Hearing Daniel offer to stand up for her, she couldn't help but cling to his arm and rest her head on his shoulder, seeking comfort.

"Daniel, I want to divorce Lawrence. Can you help me find a good lawyer?"

Though Daniel hadn't taken over the Wilson family business, he had made a name for himself in the financial world, known for his golden touch.

He ran a financial company with the best legal team in Novaria.

Rumor had it that his team's lead lawyer had never lost a case.

Daniel understood Emily's thoughts.

Seeing her hurt to the point of wanting a divorce, he knew Lawrence must have done something unforgivable.

His eyes flashed with coldness, but he gently rubbed her head with concern.

"I told you Lawrence wasn't right for you. You shouldn't have compromised yourself. Now you see the consequences?"

Emily's eyes were red and teary. "I'm heartbroken!" She paused, then rubbed her head against his palm. "Daniel, don't let the family know about this yet. I'm afraid they'll get so angry they'll kill Lawrence."

It wasn't that she couldn't bear to see him dead; she just didn't want her family to suffer because of him.

In her words: He wasn't worth it!

Daniel nodded. "The others are out of the country right now. Your grandfather's health isn't great. If he knew, he'd be furious. It's better they don't find out. With me here, I won't let you suffer. But..."

Emily knew what Daniel wanted to say. "Don't worry, I'll find a way to fulfill Grandpa's wish. There are plenty of good men out there; it doesn't have to be Lawrence."

Perhaps it was age, but Grandpa had become increasingly focused on family legacy, especially the bloodline left by his only daughter.

When Emily's mother, Alice Wilson, passed away, Michael brought his mistress and illegitimate daughter to their home.

Emily was young and impulsive then, easily falling into their trap and nearly being driven out.

The Wilson family had rescued her, bringing her back.

William had retired and taken the family to live in the countryside, unknown to many that he was once a famous gambler.

When William's enemies found them, the Wilson family suffered greatly. To protect her family, to spite Olivia and her mother, and to fulfill a childhood dream, Emily had forced Lawrence to marry her.

She had hoped that with her intelligence, she could make Lawrence love her and live a good life without worrying William.

But now, it had come to divorce!

She had tried so hard to seduce Lawrence, wanting a child, mainly to ensure her grandfather wouldn't die with regrets.

"Don't do anything rash!" Daniel tapped her forehead, concerned by her dangerous words.

Emily held her head. "Don't worry, Daniel. I know what I'm doing. Even if I'm desperate for a child, I won't compromise myself."

Emily had always been determined. Seeing her resolve, Daniel didn't try to persuade her further and drove her away.

Emily sat in the passenger seat, sending a message: [Find me a man quickly, taller, more handsome, and smarter than Lawrence. He has to be better in every way!]

Soon, a reply came: [No problem, consider it done!]

Lawrence returned to the Parker Villa the next evening.

After James's birthday banquet, the Parker family usually had a small family dinner.

As soon as Lawrence stepped in, James hit him with a cane.

"You finally decided to come back? Look at what you've done! Emily left in anger, and you still have the nerve to come back?!"

Hearing that Emily hadn't returned, Lawrence's expression turned cold. He rubbed his arm where he was hit and looked around, not finding the person he was looking for.

His face became indifferent, and his voice turned icy.

"She's not here. Where did she go?"

James, breathing heavily with anger, snapped, "How can you ask that? You don't even know where your wife is. What kind of husband are you?!"
