Sexual Accusation
“ I know “ he said calmly . This won't hurt.
He had lied to me. I was going to die.
I kicked, but he deflected the blows, pressed his knees against my legs and pressed his hips against mine. I could do nothing but struggle. I was breathing shakily and raggedly, and my skin became clammy and clammy. I clawed at the hand covering my mouth, but he was surprisingly strong.
The handsome psychopath brushed a curl away from my forehead; the gentle gesture was in stark contrast to the abuse he was doing to the rest of his body. “It'll be over soon.”
Another moan escaped.
“Hush now “ he soothed her, his eyes incredibly bright. Then he grinned like a wolf, all teeth and voracious.
This was it.
He pounced on me and I felt a sharp pain in the side of my neck.
I didn't even have a chance to scream.
HANNA 12 hours earlier
I loved my job. It was hard, intense, sometimes heartbreaking work, but it was the most rewarding thing I could wish to do.
That was until today.
Until this moment.
“I don't get it,” I said as I stared at the board.
“We've received some accusations that we can't overlook,” said Professor Jenkins , as her graying hair was pulled back on top of her head in a mass of artful curls.
“Accusations? What kind of accusations?” she asked. “My stomach turned. I hadn't done anything, except.... -That jerk. This is Kang's doing, isn't it?
That slimy, creepy, selfish idiot.
“We can't share the name of the person who made the sexual harassment complaint,” Ms. Reyes said, narrowing her little eyes. She had never liked me, and I bet that, between her and Kang , they had concocted this whole thing to get rid of me.
Professor Jenkins took a deep breath. She was the chair of the Board, and I thought she would have supported me. “I'm sorry, Dr. Barrot , but we're going to have to terminate your residency with us.”
My blood ran cold. “What, you're not serious?”
I looked at all the faces on the board, people I'd seen passing through the halls of the hospital over the past few years, and not one of them looked me in the eye.
This is ridiculous. There is no way that any accusation, sexual or otherwise, could have been made against me. This is all nonsense.
Ms. Reyes stood up, her plump figure quivering with anger. “May I remind you...”
“No,” I interrupted. ”If you're going to fire me without even giving me a chance to explain myself, it's your fault. I am an excellent physician and I thought I had earned the respect of my colleagues and the Board. This has all the appearance of Dr. Kang's hand, and I know he is a brilliant surgeon. I know he has been blessed with a skill that has saved countless lives and generated significant revenue for this hospital, but you know what doesn't excuse that? Wandering hands. Sexual advances. Making anyone beneath him feel beholden to him and belittling him. I've seen it, heck, I bet you've seen it too.”
Professor Jenkins blushed and bristled, I fucking knew it!"Bailey...”
She asked me to suck her cock, and you know what I said, “No. And here I am, standing in front of you like you're the jury, the judge and the fucking executioner.
“You don't have any proof of those accusations,” Ms. Reyes said, blanching slightly. No one does.
I let out a snort. “And I bet you've made sure of that. I guess money is the key here. Well, stick it up your ass then.”
I ripped the pass off my uniform and tossed it on the table. Then I turned and walked away.
“Did you get fired?” said Mery .
“Yes “ I said as I put my things away in a box I had found in the canteen.
Mery paced the locker room, her amber eyes alight with indignation. “ Those damn bastards ”
I shrugged. “ It's already done, and there's nothing I can do to change it. I can't face the Almighty Dr. Rayan Kang . I'll be fine.”
“But what are you going to do? You have your last year left, and who knows if Ryan will be able to blacklist your name for other hospitals?”
Tears burned my eyes and I blinked rapidly to dispel them. I wanted to scream in frustration, in rage, at the helplessness of my situation. What was I going to do now? What if Mery was right and I didn't get a position at another hospital? Would I have to move out of town? This place was my home. I had grown up here, put down roots here. The thought of leaving Misthaven filled me with dread.
I will go back and reason with them. I'm sure they'll give me a fair hearing.
Mery grabbed my shoulders, blocking my exit. “Honey, if you go back there, I'm sure you'll end up punching them in the face.”
I groaned. She was right. Mery was always right.
But how can I just walk away? I've given everything to this place: my blood, sweat and tears.
“Well, I'm almost done with my shift, so let's go out, get drunk and try to think of a plan “ . She grinned from ear to ear, her amber eyes sparkling with mischief. An evening with Mery never ended with sensible decisions.
But perhaps that was precisely what he needed today.
Misthaven was a large city in the center of the country. It should have been the capital, but when the three major crime families took power, the monarchy moved to the coast. The Morozovs, the Lavaeuxs and the Rowans controlled Misthaven. Considering we were all under the yoke of the criminals, the city was well run and, surprisingly, had a low crime rate. It seemed that most of the shady business took place outside the city.
We had an excellent subway network, which improved with the departure of the monarchy, and it was only a five-minute walk from the hospital to the subway station I needed. It was a walk that took me past several buildings owned by the Morozov family, the largest of the three ruling families. Almost the entire center was theirs, including all the nightclubs, one that Mery and I would be going to that night, called The Crypt. It was a nightclub under the old cathedral, and it was creepy as hell, but it also had the best music and drinks of any nightclub in Misthaven.
But this building, the Morozov Monolith, was intimidating. It towered over the surrounding buildings and was all dark glass and steel. I always wondered what could happen in a building like that, but I probably wouldn't want to know. Most likely it was murder and mayhem, and it was probably better not to know.
A shiver of apprehension ran through my body. What the walls of that building must have seen.
