Chapter 2

Painful Betrayal

“I’ll get rid of the child!!” My heart broke to bits as I declared something so horrendous as that. But that’s what happens when your self-will has been severely destroyed by physical brutality.

You’d do anything, say anything just to save yourself. Even when your heart doesn’t agree. Like right now.

Adrian’s rage seemed to have been pacified by my declaration. He stepped back with a gruff and pulled out a wad of cash out of his pocket.

He tossed it right at my face and it hit my swollen lips. I muffled my groan, slowly picking up the money.

“Use that. Make sure you don’t leave any trace of that child. I’m never letting someone as weak as you come into this world again. Especially not as my child.”

I could only sob my wretched heart out. He picked up his jacket and stepped past me, going for the door.

“Better have it gone before I get back.” The door slammed after his words.

I finally had the freedom to wail as much as I could. He wasn’t here anymore so I let out my pent-up tears, cursing the day my parents left me alone in the world. Without any inheritance, relatives, or siblings. Literally alone.

There was no one to turn to. There was no one to tell about the abuse I face daily in Adrian’s hands. I could never report him to the authorities. They’d never side with an orphaned nobody like me.  I don’t stand a chance against him. I know that better than anyone.

I had just one person in this world though. My best friend, Jacelyn. She could never defend me from him physically but she certainly would offer me a shoulder to cry on.

I needed that shoulder now more than ever.

I took the pain relievers first, and then dialed her number but it wasn’t available. I tried it again. Still nothing.

What to do? I needed to talk to her. About my predicament. I needed to hear her opinion about it; If I should really get rid of my baby or not.

I didn’t have all day to decide. Adrian would be back in hours. He said he wanted the child gone before then.  I should have it done already. If I was gonna do it.

I don’t know. My mind was sadly chaotic. Maybe Jacelyn would help me decide.

Somehow, I managed to get dressed, and left the house, putting on my sunglasses and nose mask. It was my measly attempt to conceal the bruises on my face.

I took a taxi to Jacelyn’s apartment and paid the driver before heading inside. I got to her door and was gonna knock, but paused at the heavy lewd grunts coming out of the apartment.

Oh…no wonder. Well, I shouldn’t ruin it for her. I should just come back later.

I turned to leave but then the next thing I heard brought me to a freezing halt.

“You suck me so good, baby.”

It wasn’t the words that got my attention. It was the voice. How the hell did it sound exactly like Adrian?

“Fuck!” The voice said again. My heart pounded heavily as I reached for the doorknob.

It couldn’t be him. It was all in my head. It couldn’t be him. Jacelyn would never do that to me. I was convinced but I couldn’t help opening the door and double-checking.

Peering inside the slight opening, I met the shock of my life. Jacelyn, my only person in the world, was kneeling on the floor naked. Adrian, the only man I’ve ever loved, was sitting on the edge of the bed, with his legs spread apart and he was completely naked too.

Jacelyn was giving him a head and Adrian looked completely lost in the moment, enjoying every bit of what he was doing.

His eyes were closed to the pleasure that he didn’t notice me robotically walking inside the apartment. My tears flooded the ground as I stood inches away from them, unable to believe just what was happening in front of me.

“Ja..Jacelyn…” Saying the name now hurts like hell. A name that once gave me comfort was shattering my poor heart right now.

She looked around and her eyes widened. Adrian’s eyes were open now glaring at me but I didn’t mind him.

My gaze was on Jacelyn. I was crying my eyes out because of her. Anyone else could hurt me in this world and I’d be able to take it. Because I had her to comfort me.

But now she’s the one hurting me, so who’s gonna comfort me?

“Mia…” she mumbled dreadfully. She tried getting on her feet, but Adrian held her down.

“We’re not finished, baby.” He said sweetly to her, fisting a bit of her hair. “Don’t let her ruin this moment.”

And then suddenly, whatever guilt was on Jacelyn’s face was replaced by a churlish smile.

“Of course, my love,” she slurred and went back to what she was doing.

“Watch, Mia,” Adrian said between grunts. “Watch how she does it with such expertise. Not in your clumsy way. Watch and fucking learn.”

They both continued having the time of their life and I was their unwilling audience. I couldn’t watch any longer so I ran out of the apartment, slamming the door.

Tears clogged my vision but I didn’t bother cleaning them. I was still running. But where to? Where in this world could I be safe?

Just where? The question echoed in my mind but my legs didn’t stop. It was like I could still hear Adrian’s grunts and it was torturing me. I needed to put a million distance between me and him. It was the only way to save any bit of my sanity left.

I didn’t mean to run into the busy street, and when I realized my mistake, there was already a car knocking me down.

The last thing I recalled was firm hands lifting me. And a grumbling in my stomach. A painful grumbling.
