Chapter 11 Markus

I watched my other uncle, Michael, William’s mate, joined Calyx and Gretchen. I held Rose, a perfect pup, closer as I stood up to join them. Of course she was perfect. I was the good twin, and Calyx was the strong one.

“What did my younger brother do?” Michael asked with a sigh as he stopped his wheelchair from rolling further.

“Dad had Amalie held against her will, so that way we could not find her,” Calyx stated. He was detaching himself from the situation.

I hated when he pretended to not care. He was just as emotional as I was. Calyx was just better at hiding it.

“Why would he do that?” Michael asked, confusion lacing his tone. “I know Mathew has been out of sorts since Rachel died. But your talking about him having your fated mate held hostage.”

“Uncle Mike, he told us that he knew she was being held captive from us. He knew that she was our mate, we don’t know how, but he knew when we did,” I stated, holding Rose closer.

“I see. I’ll summon the elder council and start proceedings. I may not be an alpha, but I do have alpha blood,” Uncle Michael growled.

Our father and uncle had alpha blood in their veins. But it was our mother who granted our father his old title of Alpha of the Moonstone Pack.

“Also, mom made you a honorary member doesn’t hurt,” Calyx smirked.

“That doesn’t hurt,” he agreed. “I will see you later. I will keep you updated on the council. I would suggest collecting evidence of what he has done. I’m sure that your ranked wolves were there, make sure they know that the council will be summoning them for a testimony. I also suggest collecting evidence against her family. You have Mellisa’s daughter here, I won’t ask why she is here or covered in blood. But I suggest getting information on how they treated her.” Uncle Michael gave us pointed looks. He then wheeled himself out of the hospital.

“He in wheelie chair,” Rose stated in awe as she watched Uncle Mike wheeled himself out of the hospital.

“Yes, he is in a wheelchair,” I stated as I looked down at the little girl in my arms. I took in the blood that had soaked into her hair and was covering her body.

“Why?” Rose asked.

“He got hurt protecting our mother when we were young,” I told her as I made my way back to the chairs where we had been sitting, I then deviated as I spotted a bathroom. “Come on, let’s get you cleaned up some.”

“He got hurt? He in pain?” Rose’s eyes started to tear up.

“Hey, hey, they hurt him a long time ago. He’s no longer in pain. His legs just don’t work any more. The ones that hurt him are not here to hurt him or anyone else anymore,” I tried to sooth. I pushed open the door to the bathroom and set Rose on the counter. I was about to turn on the water when there was a knock on the door. I opened the door to reveal Gretchen.

“I figured you could use this,” she stated with a smile. Gretchen handed me a towel, washcloth, and a shirt that would be too big on Rose but would have to do.

“Thank you,” I said as I took the item. I then turned back to Rose and stated, “Let’s get you cleaned up.” I turned on the water.

“They hurt mommy,” she cried. Rose turned and buried herself into my arms.

“Thomas and Marie can’t hurt your mommy or you, anymore. We have warriors guarding the house,” I said as hugged her tightly.

“Promise?” Rose asked as she looked up at me.

“I promise. Now, let’s you cleaned up and less red looking,” I said. I wet the washcloth and got started in cleaning off her arms and face. Once that was done, I had her lay down on the counter and set her curls in the sink. I gently rinsed out the blood. When the water stopped turning red, I turned it off and started to dry Rose. “Okay Rosebud, I need you to put on this shirt. Can you take off your old clothes and put this on for me?”

Rose nodded her head slightly and took the shirt. I turned around as she quickly changed out of her bloody clothes. “Is mommy okay?” she asked.

“Your mom is strong. She will be okay,” I whispered, hoping that I was not wrong. I turned around and looked down at her. She was drowning in the shirt. I picked up her old clothes. I was about to say something else when Rose’s stomach let out a large growl. “Wow, that was a loud sound,” I joked, trying to lighten the mood. “Why don’t I take you down to the cafeteria and we find something to feed you?”

“No, stay here for mommy,” she declined as we walked out of the bathroom.

“I will come get you as soon as we are allowed to go see her,” Calyx spoke up. He must have heard her statement. “I will mind-link Mark when we can go see her.”

“Promise?” Rose asked.

“I swear,” he assured.

“Come on, Rosebud. Let’s get you some food,” I said as I turned towards the cafeteria.

“Promise?” Rose asked one more time before I was able to leave Calyx’s sight.

“The moment I can see her, Mark will get my link,” he swore.

Rose finally seemed to believe him, and she let me take her to the cafeteria. She snuggled back into me as I walked down a hallway to the cafeteria.

We didn’t have a huge hospital. But it was big enough for an E.R., an O.R., long term care, and a short-term care wings. We had a pretty good cafeteria. Some of our omegas that worked in the pack house, would also supply meals for the hospital.

“Hi Markus! Who is this little cutie?” Jane, the head omega of the cafeteria asked.

“I’m watching her for a little bit. Her mother was brought in,” I stated. I didn’t want to go into all the details.

“Aw, that’s sweet of you. I remember when you and Cal were that age,” she cooed at Rose.

Rose snuggled deeper into me to try to hide.

“Sorry, she’s shy. Say Jane, what do you have to eat for a little pup?” I asked as I tried to rub a soothing hand over her back.

“Plenty, go sit and I will be right back with a plate,” she smiled as she went to the kitchen to fix a plate.

I went to find a seat. I set Rose down. “Wait right here and I will be back. I need to find you a booster seat.”

“No need one,” she declared. “I sit on you lap.”

“Um, you would be more comfortable in your own chair,” I tried to persuade.

“No, I sit on you. Mommy do that,” she stated stubbornly.

“Okay,” I smiled.

‘Spitfire,’ Aziz chuckled in my head.

‘That she is,’ I agreed.
