Chapter 18 Amalie

‘That was the best sleep I have had in years,’ I practically purred to Beren in our shared subconscious.

‘Agreed, we should let them do that again,’ Beren stated. I had a feeling that she was stretching

I became nervous as I realized that we would soon wake up completely. I didn’t know if I was ready to face the twins yet. A lot happened yesterday. Was it only yesterday or had we slept longer than a few hours?

‘We slept about twenty hours,’ Beren stated. ‘We’re mostly healed now. All marks are gone. I knew we will have a few scars.’

I could feel the guilt flowing through her. ‘Hey! That’s awesome! What’s a few more scars?’ I asked, keeping my tone light. I would prefer no scars, but I knew that wasn’t possible. I would not blame Beren for not being able to heal everything. Silver was used for a reason. It left scars and made it harder to heal from. ‘You are the best.’

‘I’m lucky you are my human,’ Beren whispered.

‘I’m the lucky one. I wouldn’t have survived with my sanity if it hadn’t been for you,’ I told her, sincerity lacing my tone.

‘We survived together,’ she said confidently. ‘Our leg is still broken. I wasn’t able to finish healing it.’

‘It’s alright,’ I dismissed. I figured that she would not be able to heal everything all at once after we woke up from our coma. Beren was strong but we would still need time for our worst injuries.

‘So, the twins?’ Beren asked suggestively.

‘Can we not talk about this now,’ I sighed dramatically.

I knew she was smirking. ‘We have some time before we fully wake up. So, the twins?’ she asked again.

‘They are so much like I remember but also different,’ I said with a sigh. I had missed them so much. Hearing snippets about them over the years from Mellisa had been torture. She had gushed about how hot they were and how one day they would pick her to be their luna. Mellisa had acted like she was the only eligible she wolf in the pack. I knew that every unmated female thought they would be the next luna. Mellisa’s delusions had grown as Marie and Thomas just fed into it, telling her that she was right and would be the next luna.

‘Now they will never be hers,’ Beren growled. ‘Moon goddess gave them to us, and they want us.’

‘Do they?’ I asked. I couldn’t help the doubt creeping around in my head. Did they really want me or were they simply pretending because they felt sorry for me.

‘Yes, they want us. I will tell you everyday, I will make the twins, and their wolves tell you every day. We are wanted by them and will always be wanted by them,’ she growled fiercely in anger and frustration.

‘Beren,’ I sighed.

‘No, those people were wrong. You are worthy of love and deserve love. The twins love us and Rose loves us,’ she stated sharply.

‘I know Rose loves us,’ I huffed. Of course, our sweet pup loved us. We were the only ones who loved her for the first three years of her life.

‘You know the twins already consider her theirs,’ she said slyly

I knew she was giving me the side eye. I wanted to roll my eyes at her antics, but I was too focused on what she said and the implications. The twins loved my pup and wanted her already.

‘See, you know they love Rose and haven’t even seen them interact with her, but you deny that they really love us,’ Beren stated dramatically.

‘That’s because I have told Rose that she is loved and she is only three. I’ve been told for the last seven years that I don’t matter. And before that, Thomas and Marie’s actions show that they never cared about me,’ I argued.

‘We are loved now,’ she whispered.

‘On some level I know you are right,’ I assured her, ‘I just need time.’

‘Okay,’ she told me. ‘Let’s wake up because I want to talk to our sexy mates and see our pup.’

‘Finally,’ I told her dramatically with a laugh. I slowly opened my eyes this time. Also, I did not try to force myself to sit up. I knew Beren had mainly healed me, but I was still sore. I wiggled my toes and felt the pain shoot up my left leg. My left side of my body had received the most damage.

“First thing you do is wiggle your toes?” a voice to my right asked me, I could hear the laugh they were trying to suppress.

Mark’s pine scent filled my nose as I inhaled. I turned my head to talk to him, “It was important when Beren told me that my leg was the only damage I had left.”

“Never said that it wasn’t,” he said with a smile.

“Where’s?” I started to ask. Rose and Calyx were both missing.

“You just missed them,” Mark assured me. “Cal took Rose to the cafeteria to get her something to eat. I just mind linked him when I noticed that you were waking up. He’s getting you something to eat as well and will be right back with Rosebud.”

“Rosebud?” I asked. I had no idea how he knew the nickname that I called my daughter.

“Um, yea. I have been calling her that. She hates Rosie, and seemed okay when I called her Rosebud. I would have asked you, but you were still in the coma,” Mark rambled.

I started to laugh. Goddess, I loved when he rambled. My laugh shut him up. “It’s fine,” I said when my laughing subsided. “It’s my nickname that I call her. You just surprised me at knowing it.”

“Oh,” he smiled happily. “I didn’t, what I mean is, she never told me.” Markus looked very nervous.

I think that he was afraid that I would get upset. “If she is okay with you calling her Rosebud, then that is fine with me.”

“Oh thank the goddess. I did not want to try find a new nickname for her. I like calling her Rosebud,” he sighed.

I was about to respond when my door was banged on. I could here Calyx on the other side and then Rose say something. I was not able to make out the words. Mark smirked at me and got up. He opened the door. Rose ran into the room, she scaled my bed and sat in my lap.
