Chapter 12 Amalie

I could do this. I could totally get through a doctor’s evaluation on how I was healing, then talk with a psychiatrist about the hell I went through, and to quote Dr. William, ‘devise a treatment plan.’ Okay, maybe I couldn’t. I needed out of this bed and away from the hospital. I wanted somewhere dark and quiet. I was to exposed, and to well seen. There was a door and window someone could come at me from. I was sitting in the middle of the room, confined to a bed. Goddess, needed out of here.

“Calm down,” Calyx ordered me.

I snapped out of my spiraling thoughts. This was the third time he had snapped me out of my thoughts. “I’m sorry, this is all a lot,” I apologized.

“It’s fine. I will keep you grounded if that is what you need to get you through all this,” Calyx said. “I will do whatever you need to keep you grounded.”

“Hold my hand,” I said instantly.

“How will that help?” he asked me, confusion written across his face.

“Squeeze my hand if you notice that my thoughts are running wild. I have a feeling that talking with your uncle and then maybe the psychiatrist I will keep me retreating into myself,” I sighed. I was not looking forwards to this. He had already noticed when I had started to spiral and get lost in my thoughts.

“Okay,” he agreed. Calyx took my hand into his larger one. “I’ll squeeze when I notice you getting lost.” His eyes then glazed over as he was min-linking someone.

Dr. William entered my hospital room a few minutes later. He had a clipboard and a towel with him. Dr. William sat on my other side, sitting in Markus’s chair. “Amalie, I am really glad to see you awake,” he smiled to me.

“Thanks Dr. William,” I said, trying to sound confident.

“Hey, you don’t have to pretend here. Nothing leaves this room unless you want it to. What we talk about stays between the three of us until you wish to share it with Markus,” Dr. William assured me.

I nodded my head in understanding, trying to relax my shoulders.

“Good,” he stated with a nod. Dr. William stood up and walked to the foot of my bed. “Now, let’s take a look at your leg and some of the lacerations that you received from your parents.”

“Beren said that she was able to heal everything but my leg,” I spoke up.

“That’s very good to hear. Beren is doing a wonderful job then,” Dr. William said with a smile. He lifted the edge of my blanket off my feet. He picked up my left foot and examined it. It was wrapped tightly from my foot to over my knee. Due to me being a werewolf and in a coma, I did not need it in a cast. Dr. William carefully unwrapped my foot and leg. He then felt long my leg. He looked pleased with what he saw and felt.

Cal had to squeeze my hand once as I wandered to deep into memories. I knew that Dr. William was examining my leg, but I couldn’t help but remember my dad hurting me every time he touched me. I let out a sigh as I fought of the memories with Cal’s help.

“Okay, both of your ankles look good to,” he said as he set my broken leg back down on the bed. “Some minor scaring, but silver will do that to even the strongest of wolves.”

This time it was me squeezing Cal’s hand as he started to growl. He took a deep breath and then squeezed back so I would know that he was okay.

“Can I see your wrists?” Dr. William asked as he sat back in the chair he had commandeered.

I handed him my left hand. He looked over the scars and nodded. I then held up my right to show that I would not be letting go of Cal’s hand but so that way he could still see it.

Dr. William rolled his eyes and smiled. “I guess that will work. Okay, now I’m going to have you lean forward. I want to check your back, and then I am going to undo your gown.”

“What? Why?” I asked, panic lacing my tone.

“It’s alright. I need to see your ribs. You had several deep wounds on your stomach and a few fractured ribs. I can check our ribs from the back and sides, so that way you are not exposed too long in the front. But I need to check your stomach,” he explained. He then reached back and grabbed the towel from earlier. “I brought this so that way you could cover your breasts if you wanted to. I figured you would be uncomfortable. You have never shifted around anyone.”

“Thank you,” I whispered. Dr. William had thought of my comfort before he came. “Can Cal undo the string on my gown?”

“Not a problem, and that is fine,” he smiled gently to me. “Now, go ahead and lean forward.”

I did as he asked. Cal used his free hand pulled the tie on my hospital gown.

I felt Dr. Willam press on my back. He felt a few different places. “Any pain or discomfort?” Dr. William asked.

“No,” I answered honestly.

“Good, that’s very good. Okay, go ahead and take off the gown and cover up with the towel,” he said. “I’ll close my eyes,” he laughed.

I smiled at him. I let go of Cal’s hand to start undressing. I then turned to Cal and raised an eyebrow at him.

“What?” Calyx asked innocently.

“Eyes, closed,” I ordered.

“Come on, please?” he asked with a pout.

I smiled and stated, “No, eyes closed.”

With a dramatic sigh, he did as I asked.

“Okay,” I said as I finished covering my breasts.

“I’ll make this quick,” Dr. William said. He looked at my scars. “I’m going to touch your sides real quick and then we will be done. I will also need you to take a few deep breaths.”

I nodded my head.

Dr. William put his hands on my side and stated, “Now.”

I took several deep breaths as instructed.

“Any pain or discomfort from your ribs?” Dr. William asked.

“No,” I said.

“That is really good. Go ahead and get dressed, we’ll close our eyes,” Dr. William smiled to me and then gave a pointed look towards Cal.

Both men closed their eyes, and I got dressed. “I’m decent,” I said.

“Okay, you healed very nicely. Beren did a wonderful job. Stay off your leg for at least two more days and you should be good. We’ll get you to x-ray tomorrow morning,” he said. “Now, we have a psychiatrist on staff here or we can reach out to other packs.”
