Chapter 27 Amalie
“Good morning,” Dr. William said happily as he entered my hospital room the next day.
I let out a groan as I stretched. I had been in the process of waking up. He had just forced me to wake up faster. “Morning doc,” I yawned.
“You are way to chipper,” Calyx muttered from the chair he had spent the night in.
“Well, I got to spend the night with the cutest, most rambunctious, pup this morning. She spent the last two hours dancing around the house and coloring. She is very excited about Ama being released,” he stated as he sat down beside me.
“Really?” I asked, my tone full of hope. Getting out would mean I could finally shower. Goddess, I stunk from not being able to wash properly for two weeks.
“As long as your leg is almost healed, and you are prepared to use crutches today and tomorrow, I don’t see why not. It’s not like you won’t be staying at your doctor’s house,” he joked.
“Your house?” I asked in confusion. Did the twins not want me? Were they ashamed of me? I knew it, they didn’t want us.
“Hey, stop whatever you are thinking about, because you are wrong,” Cal ordered me. “We’ve being staying with them for peace. The first few days that Rose was at the pack house were traumatizing for her. There were so many people, and it was too loud for her.”
“Oh,” I said simply.
“For her comfort, we’ve been staying with Uncle William and Uncle Michael. Mark and I figured you would be more comfortable there instead of the pack house,” he told me.
“I thought,” I started before trailing off.
“We were ashamed of you?” Cal asked me.
I nodded my head.
“Love, we would never be ashamed of you,” he said as he looked me in the eyes to show he was serious.
“Okay,” I said.
“Now that we have that settled. I had assumed the boys had talked with you last night about where you would be staying,” Dr. William said with a pointed glare.
Calyx let out a huff.
I giggled at him. We had talked about a lot of things until it got late. Rose had fallen back to sleep in my lap. Mark had volunteered to take her home and put her to bed. He said he would watch her for the night. He then teased his older brother about having to sleep in the hospital chair. Calyx had tried to throw a fork at Mark as he ducked out of the room. Mark moved to fast and let out a cackle as he left. I had tried to tell Cal that he didn’t have to stay, but he was adamant that he was staying. For the time being one of them or one of their ranked members would stay with me.
That had been a sobering thought. Thomas and Marie had no idea why Mathew wanted me locked up. Questioning them had gotten the twins nowhere. Mark and Cal had asked, which really meant they told me, that I wasn’t to be alone for now, not until they knew more.
“Well, your leg looks good,” Dr. William said as he moved my leg around. “We’ll get x-rays and then see for sure. Once we get done and are waiting on them, I’ll grab you a pair of crutches. You can try moving about and see how they feel.”
“After we get the x-ray done, can I shower and change first?” I asked. I needed new clothes and shower.
“That should work,” he said with a smile. “Ann will be in a minute with a wheelchair and then she’ll wheel you down to x-ray.” With that, Dr. William left.
“It’s a good thing I brought you a change of clothes. Do you want help with your shower?” Calyx asked seductively. “I’ve been waiting years.”
“And you will keep waiting. I want a good scrub, not something else,” I laughed, trying to dispel the blush that crept onto my cheeks.
“You sure?” he purred.
I was about to reply when the door opened. A young brunette entered my room with a wheelchair.
“Oh Alpha, I didn’t know you were here!” the omega, whom I assumed was Ann, stated. “That’s so sweet of you to visit the hurt here in the hospital. I’m going to have you leave now, so you don’t make her uncomfortable.”
Calyx was about to respond, but I cut him off. “It’s okay, you won’t be able to go to x-ray with me anyways,” I said, trying to sooth him.
“I’ll wait right outside the door wait here the whole time,” Cal said, trying not to growl. He then left me alone.
“Oh my gosh, the Alpha is just so sweet to come visit,” Ann said with way more excitement than she should have. She then continued to talk as she started to help me sit in the wheelchair. Help being the operative word. I figured I could have fallen onto the floor, and she wouldn’t have noticed. “It doesn’t help that he so handsome. I wish they would pick me as their chosen mate. Your lucky that you have gotten to spend time with them. They must be starting to make their rounds through the unmated. Goddess, I can’t wait until it’s my turn. Can you tell me what you talked about? I know we are competing against each other for their Luna spot, but can you blame me for asking?”
I actually wanted to growl at her, Beren had no qualms about growling. She was pissed that someone would actively talk about taking our mates in front of us. ‘She doesn’t know,’ I grit out.
‘So?’ she growled.
I just sighed to her and let Ann continue to ramble. By the time we had finally gotten to x-ray, I was ready to shut her up myself.
“Thank you, Ann,” Gretchen stated with a pointed look.
“But Dr. William said I could do the x-rays, so I get more practice,” she whined.
“Ama is my granddaughter; I would prefer to do them myself,” she growled. “Now go get shower room two prepared. Leave the supplies that she will need there and I will see to her.”
“But, we were becoming such great friends,” Ann continued to whine.
“Now!” Gretchen ordered.
The young nurse scurried out of the room with her tail between her legs.
