Chapter 29 Markus

It had been a long night. I had volunteered to take Rose back to our uncles’ house. Rose had woken up briefly to tell Ama goodnight before she was asleep in my arms. Carrying her back to the house, I wondered what Ama and our pups would look like. Goddess, that’s a thought in and of it’s self. I can’t wait to explore Ama’s body.

Great, now I need a cold shower. I get a cold shower, and Calyx gets to snuggle with Ama all night. Not fair in the least.

I put Rose to bed in the room she had been using. I tucked her in and kissed her forehead. As I was about to leave the room I heard her whisper, “Night daddy,” and she was back to sleep.

I stopped in my tracks. Rose just called me daddy. Aziz and I were practically purring with happiness. I knew his tail was wagging. For being such an intimidating wolf, he was such a softy.

‘You are too,’ Aziz growled at me in a huff.

‘Never said I wasn’t,’ I smirked as I made my way to my guest room. ‘We’ll have to talk to Ama and Beren. We need to let them know that Rose called us dad.’ Goddess, I hoped Ama wouldn’t get mad at us.

‘It will be fine,’ Aziz stated simply. ‘They are our mate, Ama and Beren love Rose, and we all love Rose. It will be okay.’

‘You say that like this isn’t a huge deal and you were not purring at Rose calling us dad,’ I scoff.

‘Never said I wasn’t,’ Aziz quipped back.

I smirked as I entered the bathroom and got ready for a shower. I quickly got undressed and showered. After I was done, I got dressed and went to bed. I had a lot of things to do in the morning.

Since Amalie had been in the hospital and us taking care of Rose, a lot of pack business had been put off. We had done a few things in our spare time, but most of it hadn’t been completed. We needed to get reports finished and sent off to the council. Reports from our warriors needed to be looked over and border guard rotations needed to be approved. Financial reports needed wrote up and evaluated. Whoever thought running a pack was easy, never ran one successfully.

We had been lucky that our dad had continued to run most of the pack before he became traitor. I let out a growl at the thought of our father. Not only had he had a hand in keeping Ama prisoner, he attacked James.

I thought about what James, Sam, and Nick told us about the attack.

Our father had waited until James and Nick arrived at our office. He attacked Sam first, knocking him to the ground. Stunned, Mathew went for Nick next, claws extended and aiming to kill. James intercepted and started grappling with him.

Claws slashed at each other in an attempt to cause damage. James slashed Mathew’s thigh, leaving deep gashes that would need medical attention. Mathew struck out and clawed James in the shoulder.

Seeing an opening, Nick jumped into the fray, transformed into his wolf Lowell. Lowell clamped his teeth down onto Mathew’s shoulder, the arm that was clawing at James’s shoulder.

Skol, Sam’s wolf, joined as well. He went for Mathew’s wounded thigh, to bring him down. Ripping his claws out of James’s shoulder, he ripped them downwards, causing more damage. He grabbed Lowell and threw the young Delta across the room and into the wall. He focused on Skol and sunk his claws into Skol’s hide. Mathew ripped Skol off his leg, not noticing the chunk of flesh that was missing.

James, transformed into Sandu, leaped back into the fight. The problem being, James had been hurt, and Sandu’s reaction time was not up to what it should have been. Mathew grabbed Sandu’s neck and threw him against the floor. He stomped on Sandu’s neck and then dug his claws deep into Sandu’s side.

Lowell howled in sorrow and anger. He went to lunged at Mathew when the ex-Alpha grabbed Lowell by the neck. He then shouted, “Enough, I’m leaving. You will let me pass unhindered.” His alpha command seeping into his voice.

Skol snarled at Mathew as he dropped Lowell. Mathew then fled from the room. Skol and Sam debated for a second on fighting the command before Lowell transformed back into Nick. Nick put on a spare pair of shorts and rushed to James’s side.

“We need to get him to the hospital,” Nick shouted, fear leaking into his voice.

Skol knelt onto the ground. ‘Get him on my back, I can get him to the doc faster,’ Skol ordered over the mind link.

Sandu transformed back into James. James was bleeding heavily. Nick worked on getting his semi-conscious Beta onto the back of Skol. Once he was on Skol’s back, Skol took over towards the pack hospital.

Skol burst into the hospital two minutes later. Gretchen had been manning the front desk, sending pointed looks at Calyx as he sat with a glare. Said man stood up at the sight of his Beta and Gamma.

“What happened?” Calyx growled.

‘Your father happened as he escaped,’ Sam growled in anger at himself.

“Gretchen, James needs medical attention,” Calyx ordered as he took James from Skol’s back.

“Get him into operating room three. Amalie is in two. I’ll get started on him,” she ordered. “Hope, you’re running the desk until I say so.” She then was off, mind linking Dr. William and others as she went.

Mathew had been able to subdue and escape from our Beta, Gamma, and Delta, with his wolf, Samson, going dormant. Goddess, if that was an eye opener to how strong our father was. And the man was now out there. I had no doubt that he was able to get himself healed and was just fine.

He would be back, and what he would demand when he came, we didn’t know. What I did know was, we would have to be ready.
