Chapter 3 Amalie
I sighed as I watched the three leave the house. “Shit,” I cursed as I stood, and turned off the stove. Great, now I had burnt on beef stew on the stove top. That would be a pain to clean later.
“Mommy?” Rose whispered, now that it was safe.
“It’s alright,” I tried to comfort.
“Who twins?” Rose asked.
I knew my smart girl had noticed me become tense at the mention of them.
“They are our next alphas of the Moonstone pack, our pack. Their father, our current alpha, wanted them to find their mate before they took over,” I explained, knowing that she would not understand most of it.
“Our leaders?” she asked as she stood up. Rose lifted her hands up, indicating that she wanted me to pick her up.
I smiled and did as she wanted. “Yes, the twins are good men,” I whispered, or at least I hoped they were still good men. I had been friends with the two of them when we were all in elementary school.
Flash back
“Hey!” Markus yelled at me as I walked towards the school.
It was the first day of first grade. I had begged my mom to braid my hair. She had grumbled a lot but completed the braid before sending me out the door. I had tied a ribbon into my hair on the way. The ribbon had been a gift from Grandma Rose. She had given me a blue ribbon, saying how it matched my eyes.
But here I was, walking towards the pack school. My mother had gushed how my baby sister was starting kindergarten. She had loaded my sister up in her car seat and drove her to the kindergarten on the other side of the pack territory. My little brain always wondered why they were on opposite sides.
“Hey!” Markus yelled at me again.
I ignored him. Daddy and Mommy said I was not allowed to talk to anyone. I did not want to upset my parents.
“Come on,” Calyx muttered. He eyed his younger twin.
“No, I want to make a new friend!” Markus pouted as he stared at me.
I stopped as the pair talked.
“We can’t be late,” Calyx stated. His hair was black and straight. He had green eyes that looked like a gem on my mother’s ring.
“We won’t be if she walks with us!” Markus smiled. He also had black hair, but his curled slightly. His eyes were also looked like a gem, but his had flecks of gold.
“I’m not supposed to talk with anyone,” I mumbled.
“But we’re your friends and future alphas!” Markus exclaimed as if I had spoken a crime.
“Introduce yourself,” Calyx muttered.
“Right! I’m Markus or Mark and this is my older brother Calyx,” he stated happily.
I nodded my head in a slight bow. Mommy had told me that I was supposed to respect the pack leaders.
“So?” Markus asked as he waited.
“So what?” I asked in return, confused as to what he wanted now.
“What is your name?” Calyx asked
“Amalie,” I had whispered.
“Amy Lee?” Markus asked in confusion.
“Amalie,” I stated more loudly and forcefully.
“Ama, I like it!” Markus shouted as he latched onto my arm. “You, me, and Cal are going to be best friends forever!”
“We’re going to be late,” Calyx muttered as he started towards the school again.
“Come on you two,” another boy yelled from a house down the block.
“We’re coming and we made a new friend!” Markus shouted as he tugged my hand towards the other boy.
“Hi, I’m James!” said boy introduced himself. “Come on, we are still a block away from the school. I can’t believe you convinced your parents to allow you to walk to school.”
I tuned out the three boys as they talked. I stared at my hand Mark still had a hold of so I would not be left behind. I blinked owlishly as I felt Calyx take my other hand. He did not look at me, but kept walking.
End Flashback
I missed them. I missed them dearly. I have wished that they would be able to find me. Praying to the goddess that when they took over the pack, they would still feel my connection and come to find me. That was, if they still cared.
I had been in seclusion for seven years. The date would be seven years exactly on the twins’ birthday. I tried not to think to much into it. Why would my parents pull me from school a few months before I got my wolf. Most got their wolf one their sixteenth birthday, but for some reason, I got Beren a few months earlier. It would be a little over two years before I would have been able to find my mate. No, that was not a thought trail I wanted to go down.
‘They will help,’ Beren agreed full heartedly.
‘Yes, in a week after they take their chosen mate,’ I stated, my heart hurting at the thought of them finding a chosen mate. I had no right to feel that way.
‘Before!’ she growled.
‘Look, they forgot about me the day my parents said I ran away from the pack,’ I growled back. It was no use. Beren was adamant that they were ours. I had argued how she knew. She had come after I had been locked up and never caught a scent of them since. Beren fought with me that they knew we were still here.
“Mama, I’m hungry,” Rose whispered into my own blonde curls.
“Okay, Rosebud,” I whispered as I sat her at the table. I filled a bowl for the both of us and sat at the table.
Rose wasted no time in climbing into my lap. There was no booster seat, so I would have her sit in my lap. I slowly fed her bites of the stew. Rose hummed with enjoyment. I smiled softly and placed a kiss on the top of her head.
“Please save her,” I whispered to the moon goddess.
