Chapter 9 Rose and Markus

Rose

I was scared. The mean people had hurt mommy and then left her laying on the floor in a growing puddle of red. They had gone upstairs a few minutes ago and left us down here. I heard a loud crash and then shouting. I didn’t know what to do. I knew the things on mommy’s wrists and ankles were causing pain, but I didn’t know how to get them off. I tried once, but it burnt my hand. It was worse than when the mean people hit me or the time, I accidentally touched the stove.

“Mommy?” I asked. She had slowly stopped talking to me. I could barely hear her breaths. I put my ear against her chest. Her normal thumps were slowing down. “Mommy?” I started to shake her, trying to wake her up.

She did not respond. I wiggled out of her arms. I looked at her. Her golden hair was redder now. Her skin was turning white. I was scared. Mommy wasn’t waking up.

I shook her to try and wake her up. “Mommy?” I screamed.

Tears came to my eyes. Mommy had always told me it was okay to cry in front of her. I didn’t want to cry now. I wanted her red gone and not white looking. I wanted her to hold me with no bracelets on. I wanted her to talk to me.

I was about to scream when the door opened. I turned around and placed myself in front of mommy. They would not hurt her again. She protect me so much, I would protect her now.

The person came down the steps fast and stopped in front of us. I did not care who they were. I growled. I growled as fiercely as I could. I would protect mommy from this man.

Markus

Unlocking the basement door took longer than I wanted it to. With a growl from Aziz and myself, I was finally able to get the damn lock open. I practically flew down the steps to find Amalie. Her scent saturated the air of the basement. I would have to look into how they were able to block off her scent from seeping out of the basement and upstairs. But right now, I heard crying downstairs.

I came up short at the tiny pup standing in front of my mate. She looked almost exactly like Amalie back when we had met her in first grade. I took a step forward and the pup growled out louder. She tried to appear menacing and frightening to me.

I looked away from the pup and looked at my mate. She was pale and covered in blood. The pool of blood was slowly growing larger, the longer she lay on the basement floor. I could hear her heartbeat slowing. I took another step forward. I needed to get Amalie out of here and to the pack hospital.

“Stay away from mommy,” came a tiny growl.

“I’m here to help,” I said as I wretched my eyes away from Amalie’s dying form.

“Why?” the pup demanded.

“My name is Alpha Markus, and she-” I started before I was cut off.

“Good man!” she cheered and stopped growling at me. “Mommy says that you good.”

I choked off what I was going to say. Amalie had talked about me to her pup? I wanted to cry and hug both the pup and my mate at the same time. “Yes, I’m good. We need to get your mommy out of here.”

The tiny pup nodded her head and moved out of my way. I let out a sigh and ran the rest of the way to my mate.

I bit back a growl as I noticed the silver chains on her wrist and ankles. How dare they beat her and put silver on her. Picking Amalie as gently as I could, I then made my way up the steps.

“We can’t go yet,” the pup said as she pulled on my shorts to get me to stop from climbing the steps.

“We don’t have time to argue. Your mommy needs help,” I said as I continued to climb the stairs.

“No, they upstairs and will be mad,” she tried to plea.

“My brother is upstairs and will keep them away from us. We will take your mommy and you to the hospital. Once she is all better, you will never have to come back here,” I said. I was running out of time. Amalie’s heartbeat was almost non-existent at this point.

The pup appeared to not want to go up the steps with me. Gaining confidence, she nodded her head and followed me upstairs. She scaled the steps as fast as she could. I scaled them faster than she could.

“Calyx, take the pup. We need to get to the hospital,” I shout as I rushed from the house.

‘Doc! I’m on my way to you. I have Amalie. She’s severely beaten and has silver cuffs on her wrists and ankles,’ I mind link our pack doctor.

‘I will be ready for you,’ he responded.
