Chapter 6
Aurora's POV.
My return home was gladly received and I forgot about my anger the minute I set my eyes on my kids. They blinked at me in shock that I will still be here and that warmed my heart. I had no business searching for something that wasn't relevant. I would rather involve myself with lovely things instead of thinking about someone who had offended me on my way back.
"Did you miss me?" I cooed at them, watching them chuckle happily as they tried to tell me how they felt excitedly. Their words came out muddled but I didn't waste any time in pecking them after the other, then kissing them on the cheeks while whispering lovely things to their minds.
"I'm sure you missed mommy." I spoke and they nodded, even if they didn't understand what I was saying, I was happy that they were responsive.
"Oh... I was wondering why they were giggling so hard." Their nanny, Michelle spoke as she walked out of the room with a small smile on her face and a towel in hand. She was not expecting that I would be back this early.
"Is anything the matter? I thought you weren't going to be back until later in the evening." She inquired from me.
I was always busy most of the time hence the reason for me employing a nanny. It was a Herculean task to find someone who truly loved my children and wasn't just with them for what they could gain. Michelle was the only one who passed the test and I was ready to go long lengths just to retain her.
I shrugged softly, "Alpha Killian is around so I had a little break. The alpha told me to rest until the meeting in the evening and I think I need it. What's a better way to recharge my battery except being in the midst of my kids? You can also go home and return later during dinner." I gave her the day off.
She glanced at me to be sure that I wasn't kidding. "Are you kidding me?" She inquired and I shook my head. She was acting weird.
"Of course I am not kidding you. Why would you even think that in the first place?" I replied and she shrugged, not knowing how to express her feelings. She probably thought that I had come to inspect what she was doing but I really didn't have the time to do so instead I would use this time wisely to take a nap and bond with my kids.
"I had a date with Jeremiah but canceled it because of my job." She informed me and I chuckled softly. It was lovely to see her accepting someone into her life.
"Oh, really?" I repeated as I reached for the hanger that hung my coat. That reminded me to make sure that there was another coat waiting for me when I was leaving. It was going to be so cold today and I needed to take care of myself.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" I inquired from her but she shook her head. I wondered what these young ladies thought of me. I wasn't an angry bird, I also loved to bond with people as long as they were respectful enough and didn't try to mess with me. We wouldn't have any problems.
"I'll just go on my date with Jeremiah and make sure that I wrap it up before 8:00 p.m. is that okay ma'am?" She said with a giddy smile.
It reminded me of how I was with him.
I shook my head as I tried to call myself back to order, the fact that I got scathed by a previous relationship didn't mean that it had to be the same way for another person. I wasn't going to try to project something on her that would crush her. If it worked out that way, at least she would have fun genuinely. I only did not wish that she experienced such a betrayal.
"Are you okay?"she called and I blinked before shaking my head. I was yet to go over some of the documents so that I would be able to speak properly in the presence of Alpha Killian. I didn't want him thinking that I was just like everyone he had met. Weak and brainless.
"Yeah, sure." I answered her but she didn't look convinced. The lady I knew wasn't going to confront me, because she was the only person who treated me like a human. The rest of the people were acting as though I was some god that they didn't dare speak to.
"I will be on my way." She announced for the umpteenth time.
I smiled at her youthful giddiness to be with a man. I could only hope that he didn't mess with her because I was going to step in and destroy him.
"Be careful and don't forget to return on time. If Jeremiah does anything, do not hesitate to tell me." I called after her.
I was sure that this information flew right over her head because she only smiled at me before running out. Jeremiah was a good guy anyway so I didn't think they were going to have problems. He was also strong but I needed him to realize that she had back up.
The room was plunged into silence and I turned to stare at my lovely kids who were also looking at me. "Mommy has missed you so much. I'm sure aunty Michelle has taken so good care of you and now, you probably miss her. Let's start with you getting some naps." I called.
They giggled as though they understood my words. "Ma ma." They called simultaneously and I felt insane relief in my bones. My kids were the most lovely assets I had access to in my life.
"What?"
"Yeah, right." I replied softly and laughed when they refused to say anything. What was I expecting?
'Da- da.' I heard and I froze.
