Shocking discovery

Scarlett’s Point of View

The doorknob turned, and the door swung open; my eyes squinted as they landed on the unfamiliar guy. He had a wide smile on his lips. I yanked the knife from the counter, tightening my grip around it. Asherly was sleeping; she woke up for a few minutes before going back to sleep, and I hadn't seen Asher since I woke up.

“W.. Who are you?” My body heat rose. Who was this man, and what was he doing here?

His eyebrows wiggled, amusement etched on his face. “Come on, Scarlynn, stop with these games. I just came back, and you are not even welcoming me properly. Is that how much you loved me?” A frown etched on my face as his words sank in. What did he mean by that? Surely my sister wasn't having an affair with anyone, was she?

A knot twisted in my belly at the possibility. Of course not, my sister wouldn't do such a thing.

“What rubbish are you talking about?” My voice shook, fear coursing through my veins. With each step he took to the kitchen, my heart raced against my chest.

“Scarlynn, you don't have to be afraid anymore. I've asked Asher to give me money. Once I get the money, we will get away from here and leave this curse of a baby behind.” A smile spread across his lips, a lump formed in my throat at his words, my hands trembled as I held the knife, and I was sure of one thing: Scarlynn wasn't that kind of a woman; she wasn't, and I was sure of it.

“Scarlynn, what happened?” His eyebrows rose, confusion now etched on his face. “Don't tell me you've changed your mind about us, have you?” My mouth hung open. I tried to form a sentence, but no words came out of my mouth.

Was Scarlynn cheating on Asher with this man?

Oh God, this couldn't be right, could it?

No! Scarlynn wouldn't have done that and died, leaving me in her mess. Asher’s words from the other night echoed in my brain, and my stomach hardened at the realization.

I got so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize what was already in front of me. I took a step back, and he took another step closer to me, only to realize that my back was already colliding with the walls.

“Scarlynn, you don't have to be afraid of my brother anymore. Once he hands over the money to me, we will leave this country, and he will never find us.” As much as I wanted to believe it, my brain couldn't. How could Scarlynn have done this to me? Why did she die, leaving me in her mess? She was having an affair with Asher’s brother, and without a doubt, he was going to murder me in cold blood.

He leaned closer, ready to kiss me on my lips, but I acted swiftly and moved away, causing his eyes to widen in shock.

“Scarlynn, how dare you avert my kisses?” His voice was now cold and stern. He raised his hand to my neck, wrapping his fingers around my neck, tightening his grip, and my breath came in sharp gasps.

“You've fallen in love with my brother, haven't you?” He tightened his grip on me, his eyes blazing with fury.

A sharp pain cut through my throat, and my breath caught up; I couldn't breathe no matter how much I tried. With all my energy, I kicked him between his legs, causing him to let out a scream, and he fell to the ground.

“Scarlynn, if I can't have you, then no one will.” His words were stern.

“You should be ashamed of yourself for having an affair with your brother's wife…” My nostrils flared, rage coursing through my veins. My sister was equally wrong, and the worst part is she left me in this mess. The guy grabbed my leg, causing me to fall to the ground with a loud thud, pain cutting through my body at the impact. He was now on top of me. my stomach churned as a smirk stretched on his lips. He leaned closer to me, and my eyes widened in shock as I realized that he was about to kiss me, and my mind went blank. there was only one thought: to save myself from him.

Without using my brains, I lifted my hand and pierced the knife right into his chest, and blood began gushing out of his skin. He let out a scream as I pushed him away from me, and he fell to the ground, his eyes widened in shock.

“Scarlynn is dead, okay, and I'm Scarlett Blackwood. I'm so disappointed in my sister, but I'm so disgusted by your behavior. How could you cheat with your brother's wife?” My body tensed. I couldn't believe that Scarlynn would do such a thing. She wasn't as innocent as she seemed, and that's why Asher was so angry at her, and it could be the reason why he was so cold and stern all the time.

“What the hell are you talking about?” His voice came in short gasps, breaking with emotion. I shook my head in disbelief. I was certain that my parents were aware of this; that's the reason why they pushed me into this marriage. They wanted me to pay for a crime I didn't commit.

“Scarlynn is dead. Didn't you know that your lover had cancer in its last stage?” My tone dripped with skepticism. Now that he knows my secrets, I will make sure he doesn't survive. It is not the first time I will take someone's life, and it will definitely not be the last. Some situations just make us bad people, no matter how good we might be inside.

“No worries because I'm going to kill you and reunite you with your lover.” I threw a deadly glare at him; he had just awakened a beast within me. Once my survival instincts were alerted, I always did something to save myself.

My heart banged against my chest as the door to the kitchen flung open, and Asher walked in. My eyes widened with shock coursing through me.

Today was my date of death, and I was sure Asher wasn't going to spare me; his brother was lying in a pool of blood while I held the knife. I was a dead woman, and I was sure of it.
