What secondary gender test?

I stay quiet for like 10 seconds before I hear "Mr. Payne? Are you there?"

I take a deep breath before replying "Yes, who do I have the pleasure of speaking with?"

He says "Oh! I'm sorry! This is John from Logan Enterprise, I'm aware that we said we would contact you within a couple of days but the higher ups really liked you in the interview so decided to act quickly, as the position needs to be filled post haste."

"How quickly?" I ask.

"We were looking for you to be able to start working on Monday, will that be an issue?"

I sigh "I haven't even given my current employer my two week notice! How am I supposed to start on Monday?!"

He replies "If you are unable to do it, we would need to move to the next best candidate."

I immediately say "No! No, but can we move the start date to Wednesday? Would that be at all possible?"

He's quiet for a minute before he says "The higher ups have agreed to the Wednesday start date, but not a day later. May I ask why Wednesday?"

I say "Because I would like as much time as possible to train my replacement to do the best job possible since I'll be leaving so quickly."

"I don't want to leave Mr. Baldoni in a lurch."

He sighs quietly "I totally understand Mr. Payne, that's very commendable of you."

"Once your secondary gender is confirmed, we'll start the paperwork right away. We are looking to have your badge and logins ready for you on your start date."

I say "Thank you John, I really appreciate this opportunity."

"I'll be ready to start by Wednesday."

"Alright then, and sorry for calling at this time, but you understand the urgency, right?"

"I totally understand, no worries, you have a good night John."

He replies "Thank you, and you as well Mr. Payne."

We hang up the phone, and I jump out of bed and start jumping up and down squealing "I got the job! I got the job!"

I grab my phone and open the group text to my siblings first and type "I got the job! They called me back TODAY to tell me they want me to start Monday! I, however, requested for a Wednesday start date as I don't want to leave Mr. Baldoni in a lurch. They accepted! So I'll do the secondary gender test tomorrow, then do my paperwork. Then next Wednesday I start living the dream!"

I hit send, then copy and paste it to my friends chat. I go back to my sibling chat and text "We're going out on Friday! No excuses! We're meeting at 8 at The Vortex!"

Again I copy and paste it to my friend chat. As I send that message, the responses start flooding in.

Levi: "What secondary gender test? But congratulations bro! I always knew you were special! But again, what secondary gender test?"

Roxanne: "I wish I knew what job this was about, but congrats bro! You're the best, they'd have to be blind not to see that! But I'm with Levi, what secondary gender test?"

Tim: "Same question as the other two, but congrats bro! I am really happy that your lifelong dream is coming true! lol."

Jack: "Wait what? Secondary gender test? Can they do that? But if you like it, I love it! I'm so happy for you!"

Lily: "I always, always knew you had it in you! If anybody could've done it, it was always you! Congrats hon! Also same as Jack, what secondary gender test?" Melissa: "Ooooh boy! Congrats baby! I was so sure you were gonna get it! What's this about a secondary gender test?"

I chuckle after reading everyone's texts asking the same question. I reply to the sibling group first "Thanks guys! It feels great that I'll be living the dream soon! The secondary gender test is simply because the CEO is a dominant alpha, and does not want omegas working for him, so part of the requirements for the job is to be a beta."

I copy that and paste it to my friends chat adding "You guys know what happened with his last secretary, so them doing that is understandable."

They send back texts of agreement, and I get the same from my siblings.

I sigh, and smile softly, I text both chats "Thanks for all the love, I'm gonna get ready to go to bed. I'll talk to you guys soon, and see y'all on Friday!"

A slew of good night texts come thru my phone.

I wake up the next morning resigned. I have to tell Mr. Baldoni that I'm quitting. I did list the job on the company site before going to sleep last night, so that was on the agenda today to check to see if there were any responses. I get up and go about my morning routine, an hour later I'm heading downstairs. I grab a cup of coffee(I finally set up the brew time thingy on this machine) and sit at the table.

I don't really feel like eating, since my stomach is tumbling over itself at what I have to do today.

I've been working at Baldoni Inc for three years, and am in no way unhappy with the job. The only thing is, for me, there was always an end date. I just never knew when it would come. Now that it has, I'm not even sure how I should handle it.

I'm gonna write my resignation letter as soon as I get to work. I think some more on what time would be the best time to let Mr. Baldoni know, as I go over his schedule in my head. I'm so busy in my head thinking on how to carry out my resignation I don't notice the time slipping by.

When I finally look up and look at my watch I see it's 8:40! OMG! I'm gonna be late! Why today? Of all days, why today?

I race out of my house, running to the train station. I'm out of breath when I get to the station and just manage to catch the train before the doors close. By the time I get to work it's 9:15. In all my three years of working here, I have never been late. Never! I run off the elevator on my floor and after quickly greeting Linda, I run to my desk to set my things down.

Then I run to the lounge where I nearly collide with Mr. Baldoni. "Good morning sir! Sorry I'm late! Was a little featherbrained this morning!"

"I'll be in my office." he says.

I nod while running to the coffee and starting it, and plating up the bagels. Putting it all on a tray I walk quickly to his office and knock "Enter."

I open the door and walk to set the tray on the table.

I say "Sorry again sir for being late. I have to tell you though that I'm resigning, effective next Wednesday. You'll have my resignation letter on your desk by the end of the day."
