Chapter 1
Scarlett POV
It was the night of the full moon. All unmated werewolves had gathered at the park to dance to good music, eat some street food, and, most importantly, find a mate. Tonight, I didn’t dye my red hair black like I usually do. I was afraid my mate wouldn’t find me because of that. I danced and sang along to the songs, hoping to feel the connection that would lead me to my mate.
It will be my 18th birthday soon and I still don't have a mate. Everyone I knew had theirs by 16 or 17 so why me? I hope that the moon goddess hasn’t forgotten about me.
I stopped by a stand to get some candied apples, as I was paying for it, I felt a connection, a presence. With the apple in my hand, I turned around and from about 30 meters away, I saw a gorgeous wolf. He was walking majestically towards me. Tall, broad chest, well-defined jawline, and a handsome face.
He was dressed In royal robes. As he walked up to me the connection got stronger with every step he took. When he was about 6 feet away he looked up at me and beamed with smiles.
“Hi,” he muttered.
I smiled with relief, he could feel it too, the attraction, the bond. I ran to meet him halfway and threw myself in his arms. But just before he could hold me, he disappeared into thin air. Like a mirage, he dissipated as I got closer and I fell heavily to the floor, as everyone mocked me calling me a redhead.
I opened my eyes only to find myself in my room. I howled in despair. Even in my dreams, I couldn’t get my mate.
“Another dream about your mate?” My sister mocked me as she got ready to help mom at the shop.
Elsa had already found her mate and started her little family but recently she moved back home to help mom set up her new shop. Just like everyone else, Elsa found her mate at 16, so why me? Why was I still mateless when my 18th birthday was in a few weeks?
“Believe me Elsa, the lost prince is my mate. This is the third time. I’m dreaming about him.” I replied.
She stuck her tongue out and made faces at me, “Listen, sis, the lost prince is either dead or has joined another pack. Forget about him. If he’s your mate you better start looking for someone else.”
I didn’t like the sound of that, just because the prince had been missing for the past 18 years didn't mean that he was dead.
“According to history today is supposed to be his birthday and he appeared in my dream meaning he’s alive and he’s my mate.” I insisted.
Elsa shook her head, “you’re hopeless. Give it up Scarlett. Stop living in a fairytale.”
I began to purr angrily as my wolf threatened to pounce on her and wrestle her. I snarled and growled.
“If the prince is dead what will happen to our pack when the king dies? The king is already near his death, so what do you think will happen?” I questioned her.
“I heard an alpha from another pack will be crowned king, he will be given a mate from our pack, and from there, a new royal family will be born,” Elsa said.
My wolf restlessly growled, that was not true, that would never happen. My dreams are always right, the prince is alive.
A few years ago, there was a huge war in our pack, rogues broke in and attacked us and while the alphas were fighting dragons also attacked us from the sky. We still don’t know how they found our pack because we stayed hidden for many years.
The war left many alphas dead or fatally injured including the king. Now the king has a son who had been kidnapped years earlier. He was our last hope of having a king and my last hope of finding a mate.
“Hurry up and get ready for school, and make sure to dye your hair this weekend, your redhead is beginning to stick out again.” She teased and headed for the exit.
“Elsa!”
“What?” She howled.
“How much are you willing to pay me if the prince returns and becomes my mate?” I said.
She chuckled and I could see her wolf in her eyes as she smiled “Make me your servant if your fairytale dreams ever come true.”
I smiled and purred with excitement, “I will remember that.”
She shook her head and walked away, she didn’t know it yet but she would be my servant soon.
