Chapter 4

Evelyn’s POV

“You are my mate.” His voice had this ring to it that suddenly made me feel as though i was drifting.

It felt as though blood was rushing to my head, and without thinking, I quickly moved away from him and stood up. But maybe I moved too fast, I felt myself falling backward.

But just when I thought I will hit the floor, I felt his hand circle me as he steadied me gently.

His eyes colour seemed to contrast as he stared into my eyes. I felt as though I was drowning inside it. I quickly took a step back, and pushed against his chest to free myself from his hold, but he didn’t let me go, he held me there, his huge body almost swallowing mine totally.

I swallowed.

“Let me go.” My voice came out weaker than I intended, maybe it was the scare I got earlier from Edina, but I still felt as though I will fall if he let me go.

His eyes narrowed slightly. “Are you sure that’s what you want?” He asked, his eyes glowing with something that made my chest tighten feverishly.

I quickly pushed against his chest again, my anger growing.

“Thank you for helping me earlier, yes you saved me and all, and am grateful.” My voice was becoming increasingly strong and stiff. “But you are wrong. I am not your mate; you got the wrong person. So don’t try to force the mate thing down my throat. Because I won’t fall for it, not anymore.”  I seethed; my tongue laced with pain.

How dare he try to use me again. Seth had said those exact same words 2 years ago, but all for what, he was just using me. That must be what everyone wanted me for. Just to use me for their selfish needs, and then dump me after he grows tired of me.

I have nothing anymore, but at least I get to protect the last shred of dignity I have left.

His eyes darkened, and then he gently reached out to touch my face, but I ducked subconsciously.

I saw a look of hurt flash through his eyes. His jaw clenched, making him very intimidating and scary right now. His hand tightened around me for a spit second, and then he gently took a step back, freeing me from his grasp.

I felt the emptiness as soon as his strong arms let me, but I quickly shoved out that thought from my mind and stared back at him with cold eyes.

He looked at me with a searching gaze that caused my heartbeat to speed up. I am sure my action had hurt him, yet his eyes remained gentle.

For a brief moment, he accessed me silently, then he sighed and spoke. “Eve, I know it's not the right time to tell you, but I just needed to make sure you know.” His voice was calm, a directly contrast to the dangerous aura that he was eluding.

I didn’t want to believe him or anyone. I clenched my teeth, “Didn’t you say you don’t believe in the moon goddess?” I asked defiantly, "Few minutes ago, you don’t care about her or anything she gives, and now you believe she gave you a mate, and that mate is me? Oh please.”

He didn’t respond at first, but then he took a step closer to me, but he didn’t touch me again. “You're right. I did say I don't believe in her, but I do know that we are fated. It was no mere coincidence that we met.” His tongue dratted out to wet his bottom lip and he sighed. “Look, I want you, my wolf wants you.” He finished; his eyes glowing as he said this. “No one is more fit to my Luna as you are, that’s all that matters.”

I opened my mouth to respond, but I shut them again unable to form a word. My heart began pounding and melting at the same time. It felt as though a thousand butterflies were doing their thing in my stomach, and I felt heat rush up to my cheeks.

His words were slowly beginning to crowd my mind, and pushing hardly against the walls I have set carefully round my heart. I couldn’t help but feel enticed with how calmly he spoke, and acted. His face was just too handsome to look away from, and dangerously so too. His eyes were cold and yet warm in some strange way, it was as though it kept drawing me in. And his lips, oh his lips were………..

I shook my head violently and turned away. What am I doing checking him out like that? I bit my lips, hating myself for losing control that easily. He was not the first man who tried to get into my pants after Seth, their tactics were just too similar.

“You’re wrong.” I told him coldly. “If you are that desperate to find a mate, then you can keep looking. I am certain there are many ladies ready to happily be anything for you.” With that, I turned and walked away.

I could still feel his eyes burning holes into my back, and for some strange reasons, I felt my heart pound helplessly. I broke into a run and didn’t stop until I was back in my room, crying as I fell to the bed.

When I came out to leave for work, I noticed how strangely quiet everywhere seemed. They had all partied to late into the night, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are all sleeping.

I headed straight to the hall to clean, but when I opened the door, I gasped from shock. The whole hall was too littered that I barely had a place to put my footing. It seemed I was the only one who had come this early, and now I regretted not having the luxury of sleep.

I sighed and then went to sign in before I begin work, at least that way, I could get an early leave and rest up at home.

After that discussion with Alpha Damon, I couldn’t even sleep without his annoying face appearing to disrupt my sleep. His voice kept ringing in my ears as though he had taken a place beside me. Strangely, I sometimes pictured him lying there beside me in my weak bed. It was simply the most restlessness night I’ve had in the longest time possible.

I dragged the packed-up pile of rubbish and dragged it out weakly. I was panting heavily and my heart was racing as I headed for the dumping spot to discard the pile of rubbish.

But midway, I noticed movement in the woods around me, and I felt pair of eyes. I turned slightly and looked around, but there seem to be no one else there. I felt all the hairs in by body rise since I could still feel the unseen presence.
