Chapter 13

Laurel refused to accept her fate. She refused to adhere to Lucas' warning and with the thought of escape on her mind, she opened the door. Walking down the stairs, she scanned the entire room with her ears peeled open for any form of violence.

It wasn't her fault. She had to be prepared for the day she'd die. No one ever sees a man commit murder and live to see the next day. This thought made Laurel to pause mid way. If they don't live to see the next day, why then is she still alive? Were they waiting for a ceremonious killing? Laurel cleared her throat as if to ward off such thoughts from her mind.

She needed to get out of here and fast. 'Laurel! Stick to the plan." She said, willing herself to be calm about the whole situation. It was the only way Laurel was able to keep herself calm of the whole saga.

The house seemed empty. Then she saw it. Last night hadn't been a dream or imagination. What she heard was real. There were torn fabrics of both a male and a female on the floor, sofa and even of the stairs leading to what looks like Boss Lucas' chambers.

Laurel scoffed, folding her hands. Her eyes caught the guard opening the front door. She watched as he closed the door behind him. She heard a click and understood that the door was an electric one. It would lock tight once the person who opened it was either on the other side or inside the house. Laurel made a note to find out how it worked later on.

She flattened herself to the wall so the guard wouldn't see her while she watched him comfortably where she hid. The guard has a frown on his face unlike the expressionless face she was used to. He was obviously displeased about the condition of the apartment. He bent low to pick underwear. With shock written on his face, he dropped the fabric like it was searing hot. He definitely wasn't expecting the underwear to be the first thing to pick.

Laurel tried her best to hold in her laughter. She didn't want him to be aware of her presence. She needed to find out the way this household worked. She watched as he shook his bald head in disdain. He took out a pair of rubber gloves from his breast pocket and wore it on his hands. From the same pocket, he took out a thin bag for laundry.

'Just how many things have he got in his breast pockets and other pockets I don't even know of?" Laurel asked herself in amusement. It looked like Boss Lucas' neatness had rubbed off on his guards as they wasted no time in taking immediate action towards such nonchalant act. The act of leaving clothes lying around on the floor of the apartment.

Laurel wanted to snort.

The guard meticulously cleaned the apartment. Although Laurel was sure it wasn't part of his job description. He just couldn't leave the apartment in ruins. She nodded her head to commend his neatness. It occurred to her that she didn't even know the name of the guard.

The first time she was brought here, the guard refused to tell her his name. Boss Lucas also didn't tell her his name until she had asked a million times for it. He had skillfully avoided her question and had chosen to tell her his name because he wanted to.

Laurel shook her head as she remembered the name Luis. Is the guard named Luis? Who is Luis? And why didn't he refuse to mention his name?

'Looks like names are a thing here." Laurel shrugged after a while. The question was left hanging as the guard found her staring. Laurel froze. How long has he been staring at me?

The guard cleared his throat while averting his gaze. He didn't appear disturbed and Laurel could bet that it wasn't his first time being in this situation.

Laurel climbed down quickly. She was eager for a chat. 'Hey!" she greeted loudly.

The guard was obviously not in the mood for her antics as he turned away like he hadn't seen her. Laurel didn't mind. If she could make the guard her friend, then all her plan would fall in smoothly. It was the perfect plan.

'Are you ignoring me again? I know you know what went on here yesterday night." Laurel raised a mischievous eyebrow. Anyone who saw her knew she was coming for trouble.

The guard was no fool. Of all the women his Boss could bring home was this woman who had trouble swirling all over her. Yet, she was better than the woman he brought home yesterday night. They could hear the slut's cries of pleasure from the boy's quarters!

Nobody slept well and everyone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Laurel smiled at the three quarter black suit the guard wore. It was like she was in a movie. He dressed like a true bodyguard. To say Laurel was impressed was an understatement. She tried another tactic.

'I know you and I will become friends. I have a friend the complete opposite of you. His name is Matteo." She continued.

She didn't miss the subtle raise of the guard's eyebrows. It was the littlest reaction she could get from him but it showed Laurel that if she tried harder, an opportunity to escape won't be far.

'We became best friends in one night. Can you believe that?" Even Laurel cringed at her high pitched tone. She hoped the strain in her voice didn't give her away. She was forcing a conversation and it wasn't easy to do the job alone.

She has to continue this conversation or kiss her chance of making a great escape helpmate goodbye. She could become friends with him today and he'll lead her to the front door tomorrow.

Right?
