The Tour

Juniper and Jeremy led the way outside of the building and towards the courtyard.

Maybury may have been a smaller school but it did seem to have nice areas that students hung around. The courtyard was directly in front of our dormitory and made up the middle of Maybury.

"So here we have the courtyard! Tons of students spend their time here studying or doing homework. I'm sure you would love to spend a day out here Evangeline and be one with nature."

I hummed in response and kept walking behind the couple.

We ended up turning right towards another giant building.

"This is the dining hall, the most popular building on campus. The food here is decent, and they do have some other small restaurants inside the building that you have access to."

We walked inside and the chatter of hundreds of people surrounded us. This truly was a popular spot, and it also smelled incredibly good in here. Everyone inside looked like normal students. I was still hung up on the fact that Brookeville was a ghost town and somehow Maybury was buzzing with people.

I kept looking around at all of the people in the dining hall. Everyone had their own clique, the cheerleaders were on one side, a couple of clubs sat on the other. This was every average college dining hall. But something felt off, almost like someone was watching me. I started scanning the room, no one appeared to be looking in our direction.

"Next we'll go to where your classes are held. There are several different buildings for each college. Your building is across from the dining hall."

Snapped out of my daze, I followed quickly behind Juniper and Jeremy. If someone was watching me, I wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

We left the dining hall and the smell of food behind.

As we walked over to the recreation building I took in the way the buildings looked. They were all red brick buildings with tan shutters on most of the windows. Trees lined most of the sidewalks and the Maybury logo was branded on parts of the sidewalks. Each building had it's own massive plaque stating the name.

The recreation building was breathtaking inside. A huge tree sat in the middle of the room surrounded by a tall brick base and benches. There were photos of people hiking, fishing, group club photos, and glass cases of old recreational gear with a plaque next to it that read "In Honour of Jen, beloved friend, mother, and professor at Maybury". Well this just turned sad.

"Juniper who was Jen? Do you know?"

"Oh, um, Jen was a professor here a couple years ago. She went hiking on a trail near by and never returned. Her body was never found and her gear was scattered throughout Brookeville. No one knows what happened to her."

I frowned. She was never found? I did look up the hiking trails near Brookeville and none of them seemed like ones you would just disappear on and never return. They were all beginner trails.

"Anyways we should get going. I'll show you where each of your classrooms are located and maybe we'll even meet your professors." Juniper gave a slight smile and waved me on.

I would have to do more digging later to find out more on who Jen was. But for now I would entertain Juniper.

We walked down a few corridors. Most of my classes were on one hallway but archery was at the back of the building. We reached the very end of the hall and Juniper pushed open two large doors.

No wonder I never saw where archery would take place, it was inside! A huge green turf covered the floor and five big targets sat at the end of the long field. This place was massive. Bows lined the walls with arrows underneath them. Green Maybury capes sat off to the side on hooks near the double doors.

"This is archery! Dr. Richards teaches it and runs the archery team. They're the ones who wear the green capes if you're curious. Each cape has a different number of stars on it to represent rank on the team and how well they can shoot."

Well that certainly piqued my interest. I never practiced archery back in the city. My old college had nothing like this; they mainly taught safety in the outdoors and how to protect yourself if you ever got lost.

"Welcome ladies, and gent." A voice boomed through the room, making me squeal slightly and lean in towards Juniper and Jeremy. A tall man with gray speckled hair and glasses came walking towards us. He was wearing long black pants, a white button-up, and a green cape like the ones that hung on the wall. On his sleeve were 5 silver stars.

"Good afternoon Dr. Richards! This is Evangeline May, she will be joining your class starting Monday."

"Oh well what a treat Ms. May, I am looking forward to seeing your talents." He shot a smirk at me that made me feel uneasy. I hadn't noticed before, but now that he's closer, I can see a scar traveling from the middle of hid forehead down to his cheek going through his eye. That just made me feel even more creeped out.

I smiled and gave a slight head nod towards Mr. Richards. I reached up and tugged on Juniper's skirt, trying to signal I was ready to get the hell out of here. Luckily she picked up on it and quickly thanked the professor and turned us around.

"What the hell was that?" I whispered to Juniper and Jeremy.

Juniper shrugged and kept walking. Jeremy gave a quick glance back at me and gave me an "I have no clue look."

Finally, we left the building and headed back to the dormitory.

"Are you ready to unpack Evangeline? We can go ahead and start bringing your stuff upstairs so you can get settled in!"

"Oh sure, I parked my car behind the building."

"Sweet, let's get started so we can grab dinner before the dining hall closes."
