REBORN
Evelyn's POV
'Ding. Ding.'
The shrill sound of the alarm reverberated through the room. Lazily, I blinked my eyes open, adjusting my eyes to the faint glow of the bulb.
The ceiling was staring back at me. My eyes darted around and when I realised where I was, my breath seized and my Adrenaline rushed through my veins. I swung the duvet off my body and I jolted upright.
What. The. Heck?
I wasn't under the cliff. Not in the hospital. Not in the morgue. I was in my old room in the Darkmoors mansion. How did this happen, I thought I was supposed to be dead from the way my body hit the rock sharply…. but I wasn't.
I checked my body. No wounds, except from the old scars Elara had given me. No blood oozing out from anywhere.
What the……
My thoughts trailed off as the realization hits me like a sledgehammer.
Have…. I been reborn?
How is this possible? I have only read about this in the fantasy novels on Amazon. But it's actually happening to me?
Moon Goddess…… my heart swelled with gratitude. She gave me a second chance at life. Tears streamed down my cheeks, but they were tears of joy. In this life, I wouldn't make the same mistakes;
I won't fall in love stupidly. I won't trust blindly. And most importantly, I won't die so easily.
The door swung opened and Ava, peeped before stepping into the room. Ava is my adoptive sister—the real daughter of the Darkmoor family.
“Hi… sister,” she said, her voice light and cheerful with a wide smile spread across her face. And now, I could see right through those pretense. She is just as vile as her mother.
I thought she cares about me even though my adoptive mother, Elara tries to drive the wedge between us.
When we were younger, she would punish me for Ava's crimes. If Ava injured herself, she would blame me for not watching her closely. She would punish me by locking me up inside my room without food and water for days. And I would only be released when Damian, my adoptive father or Ava pleaded on my behalf.
It happens repeatedly in the past that I once thought Ava was hurting herself on purpose just so I could be punished. It was only when I got married that the mistreatment stopped and I made sure to stay away from the people who never considered me family, unless meeting them was absolutely necessary.
“You are still here? Lyla called to tell me she's been calling you but you weren't picking up.“
I didn't respond. Clenching the duvet, anger boiled inside me. That conniving bitch!
“She said that she has been waiting for you at the bridals boutique.“
My breath seized. “Bridal boutique?“
“Yes… for your wedding dress final fitting.“ Then she shrieked happily. “My big sister is getting married tomorrow.“
Wedding? Tomorrow?
I snatched my phone from the bedside table and glanced at the date — it was a day before my wedding. Right. I died on our third-year anniversary.
She tilted her head lower and waved her hands. “Say something, sister. You’re really acting strange.”
“I'm fine, Ava,” I managed.
“Anyways…. don't keep Lyla waiting.“ She smiled and walked out of the room.
The moment the door shut close behind her, I let out a sigh. I knew I needed to act fast and the first thing to do is to call off the damn wedding.
But…. how?
And Lucas mentioned something about me having a rare bloodline.
So who am I?
“You look so beautiful, ma'am. No one deserves to wear this design other than you—the Luna of the Hollowfang pack.“
A voice drew me out of my thoughts. I glanced up and it was stylist at the bridal boutique.
Luna? Hell no…. that's never happening.
I stared at my reflection in the full length mirror and truthfully, I look so beautiful. Ethereal.
“I think this is perfect?“ she asked?
Lyla lifted her head from her phone and stepped closer. “Yes… it is.“ She winks at me. “Lucas would be so dumbstruck to see how beautiful his bride look.“
I forced a smile at her. I had managed to keep my emotions all morning but now, it's beginning to become difficult.
“We should pack this up, if you're fine with it ma.“
It was a cue for me to take off the wedding dress, but then….
“Have you ever seen a cancelled wedding before?“ I whispered, turning towards her and smirking devilishly. “Especially that of a powerful Alpha?“
“No…” she answered, her eyes narrowed in confusion.
“Well.. you're about to see one,” I said, my voice chilling.
“Huh?“ She flinched.
I closed the distance between me and Lyla in few steps. She didn't notice me yet because she was smiling and so engrossed with her phone. Tilting closer, the screen displayed Lucas picture.
Finally she took notice of me. “What is it, Evelyn,” she snapped, hiding the phone behind her. “You can't be invading someone's privacy like that.“
I smirked. “Isn't that Lucas? Your mate.“
I watched as the colour drained off her face. She was dumbstruck for a while before she regained herself.
“You're…. funny, Evelyn,” she stammered. “How can…. Lucas be my mate. He is your husband to be. Are you falling sick from all the stress for the wedding?“
Her hands reached out to my forehead but I slapped her hands off. “Get those filthy hands off me.“
Her face was twisted with a mixture of disbelief and extreme shock. Her mouth fell open.
I turned away, and my eyes caught sight of a pen on the nearby table. I gripped it by the edge and hooked it into a hole in the mesh wedding dress. Then I dragged it downward, tearing the dress apart.
“Ma'am.“
“Evelyn.“
The stylist and Lyla chorused at the same time, their hands flying to their mouth.
“What are you doing, Evelyn?“ She asked, her voice rising with rage as she stood in front of me. “Are you going nuts.“
I didn't say anything. Yes… her real colour is being revealed.
Then she regained herself. “Well…. I don't mean that. But why are you acting this way.“
“No… you are right. I'm going nuts.“
Laughing like a menace and still in the ripped wedding dress, I grabbed my handbag and started walking out of the room.
“Where are you going, Evelyn?“ She hissed in a frustrated tone.
I stopped midway. “Go and tell your mate that this wedding is off.“ Then I walked out.
“Come back here, Evelyn….“
Her desperate voice faded behind me as I slipped into the car.
As I started the car and drove into the highway, my mind was reeling on how I'd get out of this mess. Lucas won't let this slide. One way or another…. I need someone who is as powerful as he is, to save me.
In the kingdom.... only one man can stand up to him.
Yes. I should ask for his help. Would he help me? Would he even wants to meet with me.
But then… I shouldn't give up without a fight. I pressed on the pedal and drove towards the Northern province.
“Let me just meet with the Alpha,” I said to the guards at the gate of the Northern province for the tenth time.
My voice was desperate, pleading. But they were unmoved; Just looked at me like I was some crazy woman. Maybe they would have listened to me, if I was dressed properly.
“Leave,” a tall guard with an ugly scar snapped. “Or I will throw you in the dungeon.“
My heart raced with fear. The dungeon of the Northern province isn't exactly where I would want to end up.
I opened my mouth to talk but before I could, a voice echoed through the air.
“Pay your respect the king is here.“
The air was charged and suffocating. Everyone bowed their head including me.
I clenched my dress, willing to stop myself from trembling. Heads lowered.
A beat passed and only the sound of footsteps approaching me echoed in my mind.
Then I saw boots right in front of me.
“Who is this?“
The voice was thick , sharp, cold.
I didn't say anything.
“Forgive me your majesty,” the scared guard said. “I believe it's a mad woman. I will send her away immediately.“
I didn't think; I just acted.
“I'm not a mad woman,” I said, my voice brimming with confidence that surprised even me.
I snapped my head up. And there he was. Alpha. Sebastian. Wolfe. Billionaire. Powerful. And most importantly, Lucas's biggest rival.
He stood tall before me, and broad-shouldered, with chiseled features and piercing eyes, he exudes raw power, effortless charm, and an irresistible masculine allure.
“Then who are you?“ He asked.
“I'm… I'm,” I stammered, my confidence slipping away like sand.
I stopped talking. Then squeezed my eyes closed and the words tumbled out. “I'm Evelyn. Alpha Lucas soon-to be-Luna. But I need your help to help me stop my wedding to him.“
