Chapter 4
Bianca didn't expect the barrage of questions and was momentarily stunned. Then, she quickly changed her expression, feigning pity as she accused, "Amelia, you can hate me all you want, but you can't slander the Martinez family. Even the family driver represents our honor. How could he possibly steal something?"
Bianca continued, "Maybe you saw how valuable it was and sold it yourself, and now you're trying to pin it on the driver? Amelia, just come clean. Even if that's the case, it's okay. Everyone knows you've had a rough past and will understand."
Amelia was taken aback. No wonder Bianca managed to stay in the Martinez family even after it was discovered she wasn't biologically related. She had a talent for twisting the truth. Amelia almost wanted to learn from her.
The others' expressions changed, and the Martinez family's servants glared at Amelia with dissatisfaction.
The guests watched Amelia with a mix of concern and curiosity.
For a moment, Amelia felt like she was up against the entire party.
Bianca held Mabel's hand, smugly taunting Amelia, and thought in mind, 'Face it, you'll never belong here!
She was gloating. She had already bribed the driver. Let's see what Amelia could say now!
Amelia scanned the room, then pulled out her phone and, in front of everyone, dialed 911, putting it on speaker.
"911, what's your emergency..."
Before she could finish, Mabel strode over, snatched the phone, and angrily hung up. "This is ridiculous! Do you want to embarrass the Martinez family?!"
Amelia pulled back to avoid Mabel's hand, shrugged, and said, "Oops, making a false report is a crime, you know."
She showed no fear or remorse.
Mabel was shaking with anger and shouting, "You! You have no manners! You really are a wild child raised outside, didn't anyone teach you?!"
Amelia's eyes darkened, staring at Mabel. No one had ever insulted Evelyn, the woman who raised her, in front of her.
Her fists clenched, but she remembered Evelyn's advice, "Don't use your fists. Behave yourself when you get there."
The Martinez family seemed like trouble. If Evelyn got involved, it would be bad.
Amelia took a deep breath and looked Mabel in the eye. "I never got the necklace. Whether your people stole it or your precious granddaughter is lying, that's your problem. But if she keeps spouting nonsense, she'll have to face the consequences."
Everyone was shocked.
Was this new Amelia really so ruthless?
The tension was palpable. Everyone wondered how this would end.
Bianca, playing the pitiful and regretful role, approached quietly. "Amelia, don't be mad. I guessed wrong. Grandma just wants you to look presentable."
She suddenly reached out to take Amelia's necklace, saying, "This little junk doesn't suit you. You can wear mine. It's what you deserve anyway."
As Bianca reached out, Amelia quickly dodged and slapped Bianca's hand away. "What are you doing?!"
The slap was hard, leaving Bianca's pampered hand red.
Tears welled up in Bianca's eyes as she whimpered, "Amelia, I just wanted you to look nice."
Amelia's stomach churned at Bianca's fake concern. She warned sharply, "If you don't want a black eye, keep your hands off my necklace!"
Bianca's tears fell like pearls, making her look pitiful.
Mabel was furious, scolding Amelia, "Bianca was trying to help you, and you threaten her over that piece of junk? How dare you!"
Ignoring Amelia's warning, they kept calling her necklace "junk," pushing Amelia to her limit.
Her fingers trembled, remembering Evelyn's advice, "Don't use your fists. It's a law-abiding society now."
Amelia held back. She thought the Martinez family, being a prominent family, would be more dignified and not push her to violence.
But she was wrong. The Martinez family had no intention of making her feel welcome.
"Grandma, don't be mad. Amelia grew up in a village. Her adoptive family was probably uneducated. It's normal for her to have poor taste and be stubborn," Bianca said, feeling victorious.
Mabel, always concerned with appearances, looked at Amelia with disdain. "You really are uncultured. You have a lot to learn. Stop associating with your rural adoptive family."
Amelia glared at Mabel. Insulting her and Evelyn, and now forbidding her from honoring Evelyn?
Mabel sneered, "Get rid of that necklace and let's start the party. It's embarrassing."
Bianca, eager to please Mabel, stepped forward to help.
A scream echoed. Bianca's face twisted in horror, clutching her neck, blood seeping through her fingers.
Amelia stood expressionless, holding a broken pearl necklace she had ripped from Bianca's neck. Pearls scattered on the floor, a thin string dangling from her fingers.
The guests were in a panic, and the Martinez family was frozen in shock.
Bianca shrieked, "What are you doing?!"
Her previous pretense was gone.
Amelia smirked. "Didn't you say you wanted me to wear your necklace to look presentable? I saved you the trouble. Aren't you grateful?"
Mabel snapped out of it, shouting, "Get a doctor! Now!"
People scrambled to carry Bianca away.
Even Ava, who had been silent, frowned. "Amelia, that was too much!"
Mabel shouted furiously, "Get her out! The Martinez family won't accept a granddaughter like her!"
Amelia's sharp gaze swept over them. "Is it because I don't have a necklace that you're embarrassed? Bianca's is ruined. I see yours looks nice."
She eyed Mabel's necklace threateningly.
Mabel was both angry and scared. "You wouldn't dare!"
Amelia lunged.
All anyone saw was a blur, followed by Mabel's terrified scream. A thin line of blood appeared on her neck, and her necklace dangled from Amelia's hand.
Mabel pointed a trembling finger at Amelia. "You... you..."
Her lips turned white, and she struggled to breathe.
"Mom, don't panic." Ava rushed over, frantically calling for medicine.
The party descended into chaos, and the butler had no choice but to apologize and ask everyone to leave.
In the midst of the turmoil, Amelia leaned against the bar, leisurely eating dessert.
Helen, stunned, turned to William and asked, "William, do you think she'll tear off my necklace too?"
