Chapter 4

Samantha’s POV

“What the hell did you do, Dre?” I hissed as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky blood-orange while warriors swarmed across the pack lands like a damn plague.

How was I supposed to explore anything now?! The entire pack seemed to be crawling with soldiers on high alert.

“I didn’t do anything! Stop blaming me!” Dre snapped. “I’m a fucking ninja—and a damn good Beta wolf. I don’t leave tracks like you do. They’re probably sniffing your stinky ass right now.”

“Says the guy who’s been farting in my face all day,” I scoffed.

“I wish I’d farted in your mouth,” he muttered, and then yelped, clutching his nipple where I’d tasered him with my ring.

“Serves you right, pendejo,” I smirked.

Seriously, Dre’s mouth had zero filter. His brain formed trash, and his lips delivered it.

“Shut up, crackhead,” he growled. “Try using that trashy brain of yours for the actual mission.”

Ugh. Trashy my ass.

“What now?” I asked, eyeing the grid of patrols below us. It was getting riskier by the second.

“This might be our only chance,” Dre said, scanning the terrain. “With everyone distracted, it’s the perfect time to check for illegal creatures or hidden labs. We’ll split up and search from the trees. Scan for any odd energy signatures. If either of us finishes first, get out of the territory. The other will meet you across the border. Deal?”

“Deal,” I nodded, and we fist-bumped like the badasses we were before heading off in opposite directions.

Samantha’s POV

“This pack land is huge,” Dre mindlinked, while I swung branch to branch like a jungle assassin. My wolf kept tugging me toward the main grounds, her urgency rising for some unexplainable reason.

Nope. Not falling for that. Mission first, hormones later.

“I’m heading to the dungeons,” I responded. “Need to check if they’re hiding any cursed beings or illegal experiments.”

To my surprise, the dungeons weren’t dark and grimy like in most packs. These were well-lit, well-ventilated, and insanely high-tech. The floors were laced with motion-triggered lasers. The ceilings had rotating sensors. The warriors here were stone-faced, well-rested, and clearly rotated in shifts.

Whoever designed this system? Mad respect. Efficiency was off the charts.

Even I—I, the queen of stealth—couldn’t risk walking all the way in. I sent in my mini-drone instead and let it feed back images to my custom display.

Nothing illegal. No creepy creatures. No secret labs. Everything was clean.

Impressive.

I was about to bounce out and meet Dre when—

“HELP!” Dre’s mindlink came screaming into my head.

Oh fates. What did that idiot get himself into now?

Samantha’s POV

I skidded to a stop mid-swing, scanning the forest below—only to freeze at the absolute insanity unfolding beneath me.

Dre. My Beta. My best friend. The self-proclaimed Ninja King—

Was currently moaning, breathless, as he pressed his neck to the lips of a much taller, buffer Beta wolf who was very enthusiastically marking him.

“Xeon! Ah!” Dre cried as he clutched the tree behind him, completely lost in the heat of the mate bond.

His mate—now clearly identified as “Xeon,”—was kissing and biting Dre like his life depended on it. The hormones were raging. Clothes stayed on, but the desperation? Not so much.

Xeon groaned, “Mate,” like it was a goddamn prayer.

Meanwhile, Dre—cheeks flushed, eyes dazed—curled his fingers into Xeon’s hair and pulled him closer.

Aaaaand here’s your PSA, folks: this is how teenage wolves end up pregnant in the damn forest. I swear to Luna, someone needs to invent chaperones for mate bonds.

I didn’t know whether to leave, scream, or hit myself with a stick for watching my brother figure make out in HD right in front of me.

“You smell so sweet. Shit,” Xeon groaned as he devoured Dre’s mouth like a starving man.

“I’m gonna—ah!—cum,” Dre whimpered, his body trembling from the sudden emotional overload. That sexy moan probably sent Xeon into orbit because both wolves combusted—fully clothed, thank Moon.

Panting, flushed, and wrecked, the two collapsed against the base of the tree. Xeon pulled Dre into his chest, pressing a kiss to his temple.

“I finally found you, baby,” he whispered.

“Uh huh,” Dre mumbled into his chest like the dazed brat he was.

“I don’t even know your name,” Xeon chuckled breathlessly.

“Dre,” he said softly—and blushed. The bitch blushed.

I was tempted to scream. Or throw a rock. Or maybe shout, “He’s a menace!” but I didn’t want to get stabbed. Dre would murder me if I ruined his romantic moment.

So, I stayed hidden… dying inside… watching these two hormonal wolves swallow each other’s tongues again like they were starring in a woodland porno.

"I wanna punish you for trespassing, kitten,” Xeon growled huskily, “but I also wanna lock you up with me.”

Then his hands snuck under Dre’s tank top and started tweaking his nipples. Dre responded like someone lit a fuse inside him.

That’s it. I was officially scarred for life.

WHY was I here watching my Beta get groped and tongue-wrestled in a tree like some twisted National Geographic special?!

“HANDS IN THE AIR AND DON’T MOVE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SHOT!” a deep male voice barked from behind me.

Too late, pal.

I was already pointing my gun straight at him.

And then—bam.

The scent hit me. Wild mint and fresh lemons.

My wolf went still. Then surged forward with a single word:

“Mate.”

Our eyes locked. Silver sparks flared between us as the truth slammed into place.

No. NO.

This wasn’t happening.

He was tall. Intense. Deadly. A living embodiment of power wrapped in black leather and secrets.

And of course—he was the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack.

The same pack I had just infiltrated.

The same Alpha whose security I’d just evaluated.

The same man whose files I’d mentally proposed to earlier.

FML.

“MATE,” our wolves roared together in perfect, damning synchronicity.

And I—Samantha Stone, world-class assassin, prankster extraordinaire, proud commitment-phobe—had just bonded with the most off-limits wolf on the entire continent.

I was so, so royally screwed.

ARGHHH.
