Chapter Five
Dominic's pov.
I quickly headed to the territory, sweat dripped off me as I ran over, I wouldn't forgive myself if anything happened to Kristen if I hadn't killed all those rouge hunters, Kristen wouldn't have come to the territory, she wouldn't have fallen victim to the trap. My mind clouded with unsettling thoughts as I prayed silently that my men wouldn't have layed a finger on her before I got there.
“Noah…” I heard Kristen's screams as I got closer, my eyes widened in alarm as I halted, exchanging glances with Jake.
“Wait” Jake called me back. “We can't let them see us or our identity will be exposed”. Jake explained, his brows furrowed in concern.
I looked at Jake with a hostile glare, there was no way I would let anyone hurt Kristen, I nodded in disagreement as I marched forward but Jake pulled me back.
“I said we need to be cautious” he barked, his voice laced with venom. “Do not act rashly” he warned glaring at me.
“I don't take orders from you” I replied jerking my hand away from his grip. “I will save Kristen” I hissed.
Jake stood still as he stared at me, his expression flickered into anger, clenching his fists. “Wait” he shouted after me as he whistled loudly into the air.
“What was that for?” I asked as my brows furrowed in curiosity. “I have no time for this” I shook my head in frustration as I turned to go but stopped when I saw my men retreating.
“The whistle was to call them back” Jake explained with a grin, his voice laced with contempt.
“What did you do to Kristen?” I frowned as I jerked one of the men. “I hope Kristen is fine or else?” I glared at I tightened my grip.
“We didn't do anything sire” the man in my clutches pleaded as he tried to free himself. “ They are fine”.
“I hope you are right”. I frowned as I pushed him down. “Leave at once” I commanded as I watched them scramble away. “I will meet you later,” I said to Jake as I turned to Kristen's direction.
“Where are you going to?” He asked as he followed me behind.
“I just want to see her face” I replied, tears shimmering in my eyes. I hadn't seen or heard from Kristen for four years, I had missed my mate and had lived in regret and a huge mess after our breakup, seeing her face at least once could cure or relieve the excruciating pain my heart left after the breakup.
“Do you want to do this to yourself?” He asked as he stood in my front. “It would only make you more depressed”.
“It won't” I defended as I tried walking past him but he stopped me. “Just a glimpse”
“Don't be stupid, you promised to let go” he yelled, his heart swelled in anger. “Don't do this” he pleaded.
“Let go” I scoffed as I threw my head backward in frustration. “I tried letting go but looks where it got me, I am a mess, Jake”.
“What if she sees you, want are you going to do?, What are you going to say? It would only reveal our identity”.
“I don't care” I shouted.
“It is better to let her know you as a coward who couldn't love her, than a man who killed her father”. He barked back.
We both glared at each other as our hearts hammered in our chests, the atmosphere was tense as we breathed heavily.
“Fuck” I cussed as I ran my hands in my hair in frustration. I desperately wanted to see Kristen's face but Jake was right.
“I know it hurts” Jake lowered his voice as he locked eyes with me. “I know what it feels like to be away from the one person your heart yearns for but it isn't worth the risk”. He added.
“You're right” I nodded in agreement. “They will question our presence when they see us here”.
“Yeah,” Jake nodded. “Especially when all the fifty rouge hunters you killed were related to her”.
“I didn't know” I defended.
“If Noah finds out we were involved in the killings of his pack members, there would be war, we weren't supposed to attack or kill anyone especially not when they are in our territory”.
“It would soon be mine” I smirked as I turned my gaze back to Kristen's direction, my face contorted with a gloom.
“You can fantasize about owing this territory after we get out of here, the last thing we want is the rouge hunters to come after us and Kristen to know everything about us”. He smiled as he patted my shoulder heading in the opposite direction.
“I am just glad she is safe” I muttered. “I hope you live safe and happy, I hope your life isn't a mess as mine”. I swallowed hard as I held my eyelids in a way to stop my tears from falling.
“Hey, you coming”. Jake shouted as he waited for me.
I took in deep breaths as I turned in his direction. “Wait up”. I called as I ran to meet him.
“That wasn't as bad as I thought” Jake joked as he winked at me.
“What do you mean?” I frowned.
“I thought I had to fight you to stop you from doing something foolish”.
I ignored Jake as my Alpha sense picked up something, someone was trailing us. Someone whose scent I couldn't fathom.
The person moved so discreetly that his steps were in rhythm with the wind, it was so faint that there was no slight rustling of leaves crushing with each step. Whoever was trailing us, did not want us to find out his mission.
“What are you doing?” Jake stopped as he turned to me, “What happened?” He asked as he saw the mixture of seriousness and curiosity etched on my face.
Jake's action had sold me out, there was no need to pretend not to be ignorant of the stranger's presence.
“Long time no see, one would almost think you are dead” a voice shouted. Jake and I turned our heads to the voice's direction, the stranger had revealed his backside.
Jake and I exchanged glances as we nodded our heads in curiosity about who the stranger might be.
“Do you miss me” he scoffed as he turned to face us. It was Noah.
