Chapter One
Nevada's POV
"Miss Lewiston, your flight is ready."
I nodded and waved my perfectly manicured hands at my assistant then pointed to my phone to relay that I was on a call.
"Alright Mr. Nelson, I'll see you soon, ensure everything is in perfect order, I do not want any mistakes." I instructed, sternly then hung up.
I looked up to see my assistant, smiling widely at me and I chuckled, I stood up and my bodyguard followed me, ushering me into the Private jet. We got into my cabin which was furnished to my taste and the air hostess informed us of the time for departure. I plugged in my earphones and began going through some files as the plane took off.
"Shouldn't you take the time off? To relax and just enjoy everything?" A familiar voice questioned.
Her scent had announced her arrival but I was too busy to acknowledge it, I chuckled and pretended not to hear her while Fiona handed me the next file. My earphones were suddenly yanked out of my ears.
"Kelly!" I protested.
Kelly stuck her tongue at me and hissed.
"Enjoy the clouds and all that Vada, don't be too harsh on yourself." She advised as she took a seat, beside me.
Her perfume invaded my nostrils, making it to tingle and I took it all in.
"I need to work Kelly, you know that." I reminded her.
"You've been working for five years nonstop, few hours won't kill you, the flight is just three hours, relax." She said, lightly.
I snatched the earphones from her and shook my head, it was very common of her to complain about how I was too invested in my work, and I only allows her to distract me because she was my best friend.
"Three hours is something, don't distract me." I protested.
She stared at me and I threw my hands up in the air, defeated. I gave the file back to Fiona and she nodded, understanding the message.
"What do you want Kelly?" I asked, bored.
"Aren't you excited? You're launching your own company tomorrow evening, the biggest of it's kind in the country."
She was more excited than I was, evidently.
"I worked for it, there's nothing to be excited for, now let me be." I threw back at her and she laughed lightly.
She fell quiet for a moment and exhaled deeply.
"Do you think you'll run into him?" She asked, quietly.
"Who?" I asked, feigning ignorance.
"We both know who." She replied.
I sighed and looked out the window, suddenly; the clouds became beautiful and I just wanted to stare at them for forever. The last time I saw these same clouds was five and a half years ago, when I almost gave up on life.
"You're strong Vada, I'm sure of that." Kelly admonished.
"I know Kelly, I know." I whispered, the clouds seem to have an hypnotic effect because I soon fell asleep, deeply.
Thunder resonated across the sky, sending ripple of waves in form of rain which threatened to drench out my voice, a voice meant to heard, pleading for mercy.
"Please, don't do this to me, there's nowhere I'll go to." I pleaded desperately.
He stood before me, looking as hot as ever but perhaps more sexier as he wore an ugly grin on his face, he sneered at me and his eyes spoke of disdain and contempt.
"Go find your way, you whore!" He spat, spitefully.
He turned to leave but I held his leg, my life depended on it.
"Please, I love you, I can't leave, please don't do this to me." I begged, tears rolling down my cheeks, bawling my eyes out.
He scoffed and snatched his leg, when I didn't let go, he kicked me away, sending me few feet away from him, out of desperation, I revealed a huge secret, I was left with no choice.
"I'm pregnant!" I revealed.
He paused and slowly turned to look at me, I could see passion in his eyes, shock and disbelief. He walked over to me, squatted and helped my up, I smiled, weakly but I did.
Pah!
I fell to the ground, shaken again and my face stung, badly but nothing compared to the pain in my heart.
"I won't have a whore pin a bastard on me."
"I am not-"
"Mommy! Mommy!! Mommy!!"
I was startled and I gasped as my eyes shot open. I was perspiring already and my heartbeat elevated, for a second, I couldn't make sense of what was happening and I was only jolted back to my senses as I set eyes on a little girl.
"Mommy!" She cried out, again.
"What is it?" I responded, weakly.
"We're here! The plane touched ground." She announced excitedly.
I smiled, my heart becoming a lot lighter and the dark energy dissipating, the pain faced away. I looked up to see Fiona also standing there.
"We've arrived ma, about five minutes ago, our luggage have been taken care of and the cars are ready to convey us to our destination." Fiona announced.
I nodded and stood up, I held the little girl's hand and we alighted from the plane, tons of men were awaiting us, they had their heads bowed abd they all greeted me in unison as we got into the car.
"Where's Kelly?" I asked Fiona.
"She left immediately the plane landed, said she'll be back before we know it." Fiona relayed.
I laughed softly, I knew Kelly was up to something silly, probably a party or so. We rode in silence and half an hour later, we were at a gigantic mansion, my mansion. We alighted from the car and went into the house, furnished like I wanted it to be.
"Alicia! Quit running around, you'll trip over something and fall." I cautioned the little girl.
She only laughed childishly and wouldn't listen, I shook my head and didn't need to be shown to my room. Alicia was roaming around, full of energy and life and Fiona also settled in her own room. I reached out to Alicia and tried to stop her but she was running around so I had to chase after her, we had fun bonding and I ended up having to bathe her and then put her to bed since she's had a long journey.
I looked at her before I exited the room to do some work.
'She does look like him.' I muttered to myself as I stared at her fragile sleeping figure.
I exited the room and got to work, I spent all day working, ensuring everything was in order and Kelly didn't return as well. When I got back home, Alicia was awake but Fiona was there to take care of her as planned, I made dinner with her which was a ritual, I always make time for my daughter and she told me all about the fun she had with Fiona the entire day. I was proud of my daughter, the one thing that kept me alive through the years and now that I was back in New York, I would protect her with my entire life.
For the first time in almost six years, I stepped foot in New York, the night I left I had vowed to never return because the memories I had of it were the last thing I ever wanted to remember but here I was, establishing myself here.
'Hello New York, it's been long.' I greeted sinisterly.
I worked my butt off that night and the next morning, thank heavens I had Fiona to take care of Alicia because Kelly didn't arrive until three hours to the official opening of the event and she brought a really expensive dress along with her and forced me to wear it, I had no time so I complied, she took over and Fiona being my assistant followed me.
We arrived at the venue in a limousine three hours later and I was met with the last person I thought I'd see.
Him.
