Chapter 6: Public Humiliation

Emma's POV

Sally didn't give me any room to resist. She hung up immediately.

Listening to the dial tone, my hands and feet turned ice cold.

The hospital again.

In Sally's eyes, my body that couldn't conceive was just a tool that needed constant fixing.

But now, I absolutely couldn't let Sally know I was pregnant.

"Daisy, she's taking me to the hospital tomorrow. How can I deceive her?"

"Don't panic, Emma." Daisy gripped my hand tightly.

"Tomorrow, just tell her to come directly to my hospital."

I was still worried. "Sally's not stupid. Once the test results come out, she'll know everything."

"Relax. I'll arrange everything in advance. I guarantee she won't find out anything."

The next day, I arrived at the hospital early according to Daisy's plan.

Daisy had specially switched shifts and was waiting for me in her private examination room.

"Sit down and rest for a bit."

She handed me a cup of warm water, then hurried out.

I sat alone in the examination room, so nervous my palms were sweating, constantly checking the time.

Before long, the door was pushed open with a bang.

Sally walked in on high heels. "Why are you still sitting? Hurry up and come with me for the examination!"

I forced myself to stay calm. "Don't rush. Daisy just took me for tests. The results will be out soon."

Sally looked suspicious. "Really? You and Daisy are close, but you can't let her help you fool me about this."

"Mrs. Thorne, Emma's report is ready."

Daisy walked in, interrupting our conversation.

Sally snatched the report from her hand and read it several times, but her frown only deepened.

"This is so strange. The report shows you're perfectly healthy, nothing wrong at all."

Her tone became even more dissatisfied. "If there's nothing wrong, then why can't you get pregnant!"

Daisy came to my rescue. "Pregnancy sometimes requires the right timing. You can't rush it."

I quickly agreed. "Daisy's right, Mom. There are so many other patients waiting outside. Let's go."

Sally glared at me unhappily and turned to leave the examination room.

I let out a long breath and gave Daisy a grateful look.

We had just left the examination room when a large crowd suddenly surged from nowhere, blocking the entire corridor.

"Quick! Over there! Mr. Klaus and Miss Nancy are over there!"

Before I could react, I was pushed forward by the crowd and instantly separated from Sally.

Just then, I saw at the end of the corridor, at the entrance to the VIP examination room, a figure that made my heart stop.

It was Klaus.

He wore a dark shirt, his tall frame particularly conspicuous in the crowd.

Nancy, wearing a mask and hat, leaned weakly against him.

Around them, many reporters gathered, flashbulbs going off constantly.

The VIP examination room door opened, and a doctor in a white coat walked out, his expression grave.

The reporters immediately pointed their microphones and cameras at him.

"Doctor! How is Miss Nancy's condition?"

"Can she still be saved?"

The doctor removed his mask and sighed, his tone full of regret.

"I'm very sorry. Miss Nancy's silver poisoning has reached the late stage. With current medical technology, we're powerless to help."

Those words exploded like a bomb in the crowd.

"She's still so young, what a tragedy!"

Nancy's body trembled violently when she heard this, tears sliding down her cheeks.

"Doctor, I understand. I don't want treatment anymore. I just ask you to prescribe some painkillers so I can suffer less in my remaining days."

Her voice was weak and desperate, making everyone around her tear up.

"Miss Nancy is so pitiful!"

"Why must such a kind girl suffer like this?"

Klaus held Nancy tightly, his eyes full of heartache and guilt.

"Nancy, don't give up. I'll find the best doctors. We'll cure you."

"Thank you, Klaus." Nancy leaned on his shoulder. "Having you by my side in my final days, I'm already content."

My heart felt squeezed by an invisible hand.

My husband was comforting another woman so tenderly.

Just then, a reporter's camera suddenly focused on me.

"Wait! Are you... Emma?"

The reporter raised his camera, shouting my name uncertainly.

"I remember you! You're Mr. Klaus's wife!"

My whole body stiffened, my blood freezing.

"Who's Emma? Is she Klaus's wife?!"

All the reporters' cameras instantly swiveled, aimed directly at me.

Klaus's gaze also pierced through the crowd, staring hard at me.

"Emma, did you come to the hospital specifically after seeing the news online?"

A female reporter rudely shoved a microphone in my face.

"How do you feel seeing your husband with another woman? Are you jealous of Miss Nancy?"

Another reporter pressed on. "We understand you've been married to Mr. Klaus for a year, but he's never publicly acknowledged your Luna status. Is that true?"

"Is it because you can't conceive that Mr. Klaus refuses to acknowledge you?"

"There are rumors you don't even have a wolf. Do you think you're worthy of an Alpha?"

Sharp questions stabbed into my heart like knives.

My face turned deathly pale, hands clenched together, nails digging deep into my palms.

"Emma!"

Klaus suddenly spoke, his tone full of warning and anger. "Nancy is sick!"

His meaning was clear: he was warning me not to embarrass Nancy.

Seeing I remained silent, his tone grew more severe. "Emma!"

Nancy lifted her head, looking at me through tear-filled eyes.

"I'm sorry, Emma. Klaus is just my friend. I didn't expect you'd be at the hospital today too."

Her voice was weak and aggrieved, as if I were the other woman, as if I had destroyed their relationship.

The surrounding crowd began whispering.

"So Emma really is Klaus's wife?"

"How can she act like this? Miss Nancy is dying, yet she's still so aggressive!"

"Klaus is just here accompanying a friend. What's there to be jealous about?"

I took a deep breath and said calmly, "I'm just here for a checkup. Nothing else."

I wanted to leave this suffocating place.

But the reporters wouldn't let me go. They followed me like madmen, surrounding me completely.

"Emma, please wait!"

"Many people online hope you'll divorce Mr. Klaus and let Miss Nancy become Luna. What do you think?"

"Emma, Miss Nancy is dying. Can you bear to watch her unable to be with the one she loves?"

"Did you deliberately come to the hospital to provoke Miss Nancy?"

Someone in the crowd suddenly pushed me hard.

My body lost balance completely, and I fell forward.

In that moment before falling, my first instinct was to protect my belly with all my strength.
