Chapter 7: "Are You Pregnant?"

Emma's POV

I crashed hard onto the floor.

Countless cameras aimed at me, the flashbulbs nearly blinding me.

Instinctively, I looked toward Klaus.

His eyes were terrifyingly cold, devoid of any concern or guilt.

I knew what he wanted.

He wanted me to tell the reporters that this was all a misunderstanding, that he hadn't cheated on me with Nancy, that Nancy wasn't a homewrecker, that she was just sick and needed a friend's care.

He wanted me to publicly admit I was a jealous, unreasonable, vicious woman.

That way, he could be with Nancy with a clear conscience.

I slowly stood up, took a deep breath, and spoke calmly.

"I sympathize with Nancy's illness."

Klaus's expression softened slightly, and Nancy smiled triumphantly.

But the next second, a reporter's question made me change my mind completely.

"So, are you and Miss Nancy friends?"

I looked at Klaus and laughed coldly.

"Why would I be friends with a homewrecker?"

The entire scene fell silent.

Everyone stared at me in shock, including Klaus.

I continued: "Because of Nancy, Klaus and I are getting divorced."

"Emma!" Klaus exploded in fury, his face turning ashen.

Nancy's expression darkened as well. Her body trembled violently, as if she might faint at any moment.

I dug my nails into my palms, the pain keeping me lucid.

Then I used all my strength to push through the crowd.

I fled the hospital and went straight back to Daisy's apartment.

The moment I closed the door, I collapsed completely.

My phone in my pocket began vibrating frantically.

It was Sally.

My fingers trembling, I kept pressing the decline button.

Her text message immediately popped up.

"Damn it! Emma, are you crazy?!"

"How dare you divorce Klaus?!"

I had no idea how to explain it to her.

Sally already knew there was a crisis in my marriage to Klaus.

Given her temperament, she would definitely make a huge scene.

I simply pressed the power button, avoiding a confrontation with her.

That evening, Daisy dragged her exhausted body back to the apartment.

As soon as she walked in, she collapsed onto the sofa.

"I'm so angry! The hospital was completely blocked by those reporters, seriously disrupting our normal work!"

I poured her a glass of water and sat beside her.

Daisy took a big gulp of water, then suddenly remembered something, her expression turning serious.

"Oh! Emma, this afternoon Nancy came to our obstetrics department."

My heart lurched. "What was she doing in obstetrics?"

"She was investigating you." Daisy's tone was grave.

"She doesn't know about my relationship with you, and kept trying to intimidate and bribe me, asking if you were pregnant."

I grabbed her hand nervously. "What did you tell her?"

"I said nothing, of course!" Daisy said firmly. "But Emma, she seems to have guessed that you're pregnant."

Fear instantly engulfed me, and my breathing became difficult.

I murmured, "How would Nancy know I'm pregnant?"

Damn it!

I suddenly remembered the ultrasound report under my pillow!

I immediately grabbed my phone and called the manor maid.

"Madam, what can I do for you?" the maid asked.

"Who's staying in my room now?" My voice trembled.

"It's Miss Nancy," the maid answered. "The Alpha ordered her to move in to recuperate."

My heart sank to the bottom.

"Can you do me a favor? I had a document under my pillow, can you look for it?"

The maid, using the excuse of delivering food, went to that room.

Soon, she called me back.

"Sorry, Madam, there's nothing under the pillow."

After hanging up, all the strength seemed drained from me.

"Emma, what's wrong?" Daisy looked at me with concern.

"That ultrasound report... Nancy took it."

Daisy gasped. "What?!"

"Klaus probably doesn't know I'm pregnant yet."

I murmured, "Nancy wants us to divorce, so she definitely won't tell Klaus."

But I had an inexplicable sense of unease.

I could only pray silently that the divorce date would come quickly.

Once divorced, I could leave here and go somewhere no one could find me.

The next morning, I was still sleeping when Daisy woke me up.

"Emma, wake up, look outside, isn't that Klaus's car?"

I immediately got up and went to the window.

Klaus's black Bentley was parked right in front of the apartment building.

I quickly turned on my phone that had been off all night.

Instantly, countless missed call and text notifications flooded in.

From Sally, and from Klaus.

The phone rang shrilly, "Klaus" flashing on the screen.

As soon as I answered, Klaus roared furiously, "Why did it take you so long to answer?! Come down! Right now!"

I gripped the phone, thought for a long time, then decided to go downstairs.

The moment I opened the car door, Klaus sneered, his eyes full of contempt.

"I really underestimated you before. I never thought you could be such a scheming bitch."

"Those reporters at the hospital yesterday, you deliberately arranged for them to be there, didn't you?"

I stared at him in shock. "Klaus, of course I didn't!"

"Emma, stop lying!" he growled. "If not you, then who?"

I laughed coldly. "If you want to know who did it, why don't you ask Nancy?"

My mockery enraged him further.

His strength was frightening as he grabbed my wrist.

"Emma, I've emphasized many times, she's sick, and she's nothing like you!"

I lost the desire to explain, only wanting to leave this suffocating car as quickly as possible.

"Did you deliberately tell Grace about what happened at the hospital?"

He questioned me again. "Do you think that will change my decision to divorce?"

Grace was Klaus's grandmother. After old Campbell died, she was the only one in this family who genuinely cared about me.

"Of course not!" I immediately denied it. "How could I disturb Grace with such matters?"

I thought of Sally. It must have been her who told.

Klaus said coldly, "I'll believe you one more time, but this is the last time."

"Grace asked us to come to her manor for dinner. Remember, Emma, watch your mouth. Don't say a single word you shouldn't."

The car drove all the way into Grace's manor.

As soon as we entered, I saw Grace sitting in the living room waiting for us.

The servants had prepared a table full of rich food.

I had just sat down when a greasy smell of steak hit my nose.

A strong wave of nausea surged up from my stomach.

My face instantly turned pale, and I desperately covered my mouth.

"Emma, what's wrong? Why do you look so terrible?" Grace asked with concern.

I shook my head. "It's nothing, Grandma, I just feel a bit unwell."

Grace was stunned for a moment, then showed a look of surprise and anticipation.

"Emma, are you pregnant?"

Suddenly, Klaus looked up and stared at me.
