Chains of Memory

Mara woke to the taste of iron. Her tongue was raw, her lips split. A dull ache throbbed in the back of her skull. She tried to move, but her arms jerked against resistance chains. Cold iron bit into her wrists, binding her to a chair bolted into stone.
