Chapter 2 CHAPTER 2

~MASQUERADE BALL~

Kieran Lucian’s POV

The bass of soft music pulsed through the whole ball, I watched as people flooded in and out of the grand hall. I sat on the second floor, a glass of whiskey in my hand, my fingers curled tightly around it as I stared down at the crowd below.

They had no idea.

No idea that, outside these walls, the beginning of a war was cooking. No idea that tomorrow, blood would be spilled, and history would be rewritten. And I, Kieran Adrian would make sure of that.

My wolves were already around the city, hidden in different hide outs, waiting for my command. The rogue pack, the same pack responsible for my family's slaughter, had no clue that their reign was coming to an end tomorrow. I had spent years planning this moment, years waiting for the chance to tear them apart the way they had torn apart everything I loved.

But despite the satisfaction that should have come with knowing that revenge was finally within reach, there was something else clawing at my insides. A strange, restless feeling that had been with me all night. I don't know what it is.

It was like my wolf was trying to tell me something.

Damian, my Beta and closest friend, leaned forward from where he sat across from me, his arms resting on his knees. “Kieran, are you listening?”

I blinked, forcing myself to focus. “Yeah.”

He gave me a skeptical look but continued. “The scouts have had eyes on the rogue pack for a while and Darius Valerius hasn’t made any move yet. I think he has a daughter there.” He paused, tilting his head slightly. “Are we really going to kill her too?”

“She’s a Valerius,” I said flatly. “She’s part of the problem.”

Damian sighed, running a hand through his hair. “We don’t know that for sure. She could be—”

“I don’t care.” I cut him off, my voice sharp. “She carries his blood. That’s enough reason.”

There was a long silence before Lucas, my Gamma, let out a low whistle. “Cold. Even for you.” He grinned. “Anyway, let’s not ruin the night by talking about murder. Look at the view, boys.”

He gestured toward the hall below, where women were like fishes in the ocean. Women in long and flowing dress dancing to the tune of the soft music.

Lucas smirked, his gaze moved to me. “See anything you like, Alpha?”

I rolled my eyes. “I have a girlfriend.”

Lucas groaned dramatically. “And yet, you’re still no fun.”

Damian chuckled, but I ignored them both, bringing my glass to my lips. My focus needed to be on the mission, not on—

My eyes locked onto the entrance of the hall just as the doors swung open, and then—

She walked in.

And there was silence for about thirty seconds.

It was as if the world stopped for a minute to admire the beauty that had just walked in.

My world tilted.

The music, the noise, the people everything faded, like the universe had suddenly narrowed its focus to the girl stepping inside.

She wasn’t like the other women here. She wasn’t trying too hard, and wasn't desperate for attention. She moved with a natural grace, oblivious to the way heads turned as she passed.

Her long blonde hair cascaded over her shoulders, her emerald eyes scanning the room with something that almost looked like wonder. Like she had never been to a place like this before.

She was breathtaking. Beautiful. Hot. She walked In just like like an angel would

But that wasn’t why I couldn’t take my eyes off her. I have seen so many beautiful ladies but this is just so different

There was something about this girl that I don't know yet. Something I can specifically place my hand on.

“She's damn hot!” Damian exclaimed excitedly

Lucas’s eyes moved between me and the girl below, a slow smirk spreading across his face. I know the meaning of that smirk “Well, well. Guess the Alpha does see something he likes.”

“Shut up,” I snapped, rolling my eyes. Lucas is one of the silliest people I know, and makes jokes out of everything.

He laughed. “Want me to bring her up here?” he asked, his eyes glinting with mischief

“No.” My voice was sharp, almost desperate. There was nothing wrong with admiring a lady. And also, I have a girlfriend

Then I smelled it.

A scent so intoxicating, so powerful, that it knocked the air straight from my lungs. It smelled so much like-

Lilies.

Yeah, Lilies.

Fresh and it was laced with something undeniably feminine and pure and sweet

It hit me like a strong wave, drowning out everything else—the smoke, the alcohol. My grip on my glass tightened, my entire body stiffening.

Something was wrong.

I turned sharply toward Damian and Lucas . “Do you smell that?”

Lucas raised an eyebrow. “Smell what?”

“The lilies,” I said, my voice harsher than I intended. “It’s so strong and almost intoxicating and intense—”

But they both shook their heads saying no.

“Nope.” Damian leaned back in his seat. “Nothing.”

Lucas sniffed the air exaggeratedly before shrugging and staring at me like I've grown two heads. “Just the usual club heat, man. Maybe your brain’s finally fried from all the rage.”

He laughed out and Damian couldn't help but join him.

I ignored his jab, my heartbeat picking up. If they couldn’t smell it…

Does that mean I'm the only one that can smell this?? I have never felt like this my whole life but I've read countless books that talk about wolf scents.

Then I finally traced the scent to her and we both locked eyes, I could see the way her shoulders stiffened. I could see the way she stared at me like she just say a ghost

Then that meant—

No. No. No.

Not possible

I tried to push the thoughts away but Fuck!!

My wolf stirred, pressing against my mind, restless and eager.

Mate.

The word echoed through me, sinking into my very soul.

I barely heard Lucas and Damian talking. My surroundings blurred into nothing. Everything —it all faded.

All I could see was her.

The way she looked, her emerald eyes slightly widened as she kept scanning my face, like she was searching for something.

Something suddenly snapped inside me. My body moved before I could even process the decision. I stood, pushing my chair back roughly.

“Kieran?” Damian asked, but I ignored him.

I was already walking.

Drawn to her.

The pull was unbearable, stronger than anything I had ever felt. My heart pounded with a mix of confusion, anger, and excitement

She was mine.

And I needed to know who she was.

My footsteps were slow as I walked down the stairs, walking through the crowd, trying to close the distance between us.

Our eyes were still locked.

And then she did the last thing I expected.

She ran.

Before I could get to her, before I could reach for her, she spun on her heel, lifted her dress slightly, and disappeared into the crowd.

I had just found my mate.

And she had fled.

And I did something I have never done. I ran after her
