Chapter 6: Very Seductive
"What do you think?" James asked again.
"It's Amelia!" Mia blurted out.
The moment the words left her mouth, her heart ached again, and the pain blurred her vision once more.
James reached out and pinched her soft cheek helplessly. "I was talking about you, you fool."
Hearing that, Mia pretended to look disgusted and pushed James away. "Gross. Go take a shower. I'm tired and want to sleep."
She pulled the covers over herself and burrowed underneath.
Only after she heard the sound of running water from the bathroom did Mia secretly peek out and let out a long sigh.
It had all been a misunderstanding. That was good.
Her parents' marriage had fallen apart because of her father's constant suspicion of her mother, leading to a painful childhood she did not want to revisit.
She couldn't repeat that mistake. She could not let paranoia destroy her marriage. She had to trust James.
He had no reason to lie to her.
...
After showering, James walked out, steam still clinging to his skin. He approached the bed and looked at Mia curled up under the blanket like a little ostrich. Tugging at the covers without success, he called softly, "Mia."
"I'm asleep." Mia clutched the blanket with one hand, her muffled voice coming from under the covers.
James chuckled.
Being with her really made him happy.
"What are you laughing at? Don't laugh at me!"
Thinking he was teasing her about the earlier misunderstanding, Mia flushed and poked her head out, glaring at him.
"It's all your fault. Who told you to hug other women? Don't you know men and women should keep their distance?"
She added, "James, you're a married man. You need to be aware of keeping your distance from other women—"
A warm towel landed on her face, cutting off her rambling.
Mia immediately lay flat, her hands "regressing" to helplessness. "Help, I can't breathe."
James bent down, smiling as he gently wiped her face. She obediently tilted her head from side to side to help him.
After wiping, when James turned to return the towel to the bathroom, Mia's little mouth continued, "I'll generously forgive you this time. But if there's a next time, just wait and see how I deal with you."
"Who's dealing with whom?" James replied calmly.
James, who had already returned to the bedside, lifted the covers and slipped into bed, pulling her into his arms. His large hand ambiguously pinched the soft flesh at her waist.
The sensitive Mia immediately shrank back, but James pulled her back into his embrace, their bodies pressed tightly together without any gap.
Mia instantly dropped her arrogant attitude. She lay quietly in his arms like a docile kitten.
Her emotions had been up and down all evening. Before long, she truly fell asleep.
Light, even breathing sounds came from his chest. James looked down at Mia, who was sleeping soundly without a care in the world, his eyes deep and thoughtful.
After a moment, he adjusted her carefully, avoiding her injured arm, and held her more securely before closing his eyes.
Soon, he fell asleep beside her.
...
At the hospital.
After James left, Amelia called the caregiver over. She took a few hundred dollars from her wallet and handed it to her. "Go ask around for me. A patient named Mia was admitted last night. What was the reason?"
If Mia could be discharged early in the morning, it could not have been serious.
Why had James looked so worried?
"Okay, Ms. Martinez." The caregiver happily accepted the money and turned to go find out.
She was familiar with people at the hospital. She quickly gathered the information and learned that the woman Amelia had asked about was actually James's wife.
Well, the news she got would definitely make Amelia displeased.
Standing outside the hospital room, the caregiver hesitated before entering.
"Ms. Martinez," she said cautiously, "she was admitted to the hospital because she fell. She protected her stomach with her arm, so the baby is fine, but she fractured her arm."
"Baby? She's pregnant?"
Amelia didn't know. The caregiver braced herself and replied quietly, "Yes."
Amelia smiled faintly and said, "I see. Thank you for your trouble."
She was in a good mood as she picked up her phone and called someone to come to the hospital to redo her nails.
The caregiver was completely speechless.
First time seeing a mistress happy that someone's wife is pregnant.
Amelia hung up the phone and saw the shocked caregiver. She lowered her eyelids, hiding the disdain in her eyes.
What did she know?
Mia had injured herself to protect the baby. To Amelia, it looked desperate and pathetic.
She really looked down on such a humble approach. Only a woman of Mia's low birth would use it.
She just didn't want him. If she wanted him, with just a crook of her finger, James would be hers.
What was Mia anyway?
In the blink of an eye, Saturday arrived—theday Amelia was to be discharged.
She woke early, changed into her custom-made outfit, and sat on the sofa doing her makeup while waiting for James to pick her up.
...
At Luxe Haven, James was working in his study.
Mia had been stuck at home for several days because of her fractured arm and felt restless.
As soon as the cast was removed, she began planning again.
She had the servants prepare a plate of fruit and brought it upstairs.
Outside the study, Mia knocked on the door, turned the doorknob, and slowly poked her head through the crack, calling sweetly, "James."
"I'm here." James responded without looking up, continuing to work.
Mia took the fruit plate from the servant, dismissed them, and walked inside. She set the plate on the desk, picked up a piece of fruit, and held it to his lips.
James opened his mouth and ate it, still not looking at her.
Mia was completely speechless.
Since the hint didn't get his attention, she would be direct. "James, I want to go shopping."
James multitasked, looking at documents while replying, "Have Alice Baker go with you."
"She's not in Imperial City right now. She won't be back for a few days."
"Then take a servant."
"No, I want you to go with me."
"I have work. Take a servant. Be good."
He clearly had no intention of changing his mind.
Mia looked at him, ignored and immersed in his work. Suddenly, she stepped forward and sat on his lap, facing him.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she softened her voice to act cute. "James, come with me, please. I want you to go with me, okay?"
The intimate position caused his gaze to darken behind his glasses.
Mia still didn't realize it. To achieve her goal, she raised the stakes by pouting her little mouth and planting a kiss on his sexy thin lips.
With this kiss, James's Adam's apple rolled up and down.
He slowly raised his hand, his long fingers with defined knuckles slowly removing the glasses from his nose, casually tossing them onto the desk.
This action was very seductive.
Mia was stunned.
James was dangerously handsome.
When James lifted his eyes and looked at her steadily, a sudden warning flashed through her mind.
Danger.
It was too late to escape.
She heard the soft click of the study door locking.
His fingers gently lifted her chin as he leaned in—
