It was 4:30 a.m. when the sky went mean. Storm clouds rolled in like a threat; thunder and lightning put on a show but the rain hadn’t started yet. The wind was already tearing through the trees in forty-mile-an-hour gusts, as if the heavens themselves were daring anyone to stay outside.
